App to boycott Israeli goods

1000 replies

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

'Could it be to do with scale ? If we deal only with children'

Every death matters. However let's not just talk about scale and talk about method, unpleasant though it is.

So Oct 7th armed terrorists went into people's homes and slaughtered children in cold blood. The retaliation has meant airtsrikes have sadly killed civilians as hamas have done nothing to protect their civilians. So yes scale is something but murder v civilian deaths in a warzone is far more relevant.

It has been established by every major NGO and the UN that Israel are genocidal, your children are just 'collateral damage in a warzone' shtick doesn't work anymore. Children are being killed, starved and maimed as part of a genocidal campaign. Genocide isn't accidental it has been incited by the Israeli government and carried out by their army. They are to blame for their genocidal actions, no one else.

The Palestinians could have gotten a lot further by being peaceful neighbours and not violent terrorists.
Every war has civilian casualties, but it’s only top of the agenda when Jews are involved.

Well boycotts work both ways surely. Shoppers will also boycott shops who boycott Israel/Jewish companies.

They can do whatever they like. It’s still a free world. Well, here anyway

Might switch my current account and regular savings to co-op too. They're offering 175 to switch! They've got a cracking interest of 7% on a regular saver too!

Why is this not on the Martin Lewis Money saving website????

Thankyou for that. We’ve been meaning to switch to the coop for years. Now seems a good time.

Oops Yes sorry it looks like it is actually 93% of those killed in Gaza are civilians per more up to date reporting yesterday

www.theguardian.com/world/2025/sep/19/civilians-made-up-15-of-every-16-people-israel-killed-in-gaza-since-march-data-suggests

Wonder if those figures also include all the ‘missing’ under the rubble.

Currently being bulldozed away.

All my shopping in the co-op from now on.

Well done co-op!!!

Well done co op what a totally empty virtue signalling gesture Grin

He possibly doesn't endorse companies that are into boycotting as a publicity stunt.

Martin Lewis focusses on financial safety and security and customer satisfaction and returns

He’s not focused on banks that boycott countries who violate human rights,

You must have understood the relevance of the question, or you wouldn’t be so keen to deflect it.

This is not about whether you oppose sex offending or political wrongdoing. I’m assuming you do.

‘What about the men’ is a legitimate and powerful question to ask if the person it’s said to has just been decrying the fecklessness of single mothers or the promiscuity of women these days or the mediocrity of our female politicians.

Because it challenges a double standard that often springs from conscious or unconscious prejudice.

None of us should be afraid of reflecting on whether that’s going on here too.

"The promiscuity of women these days"

Well that didn't take long, did it. Couldn't hold it in, eh?

You think that comment betrays a double standard springing from prejudice?

Congratulations -- you agree with the point I was making.

The amount of technology invented and created by Israel is astounding! The contribution towards medicine alone is life changing. The list includes the pill-cam to identify colon cancer without invasive procedures, an exoskeleton robot to help paralysed people walk, the OrCam system to allow visually impaired people to see, an emergency bandage to stop severe bleeding in emergency situations, a special breathalyser to diagnose diseases through your breath, a new medication to significantly help MS sufferers. And so many more. Israelis are amazing people and that includes people of all religions and ethnicities. The Hebrew U in Jerusalem produces more Muslim doctors than all the surrounding countries combined. Boycotting Israeli goods not only affects your own life, it targets innocent Israeli civilians caught up in a conflict trying to survive and live. Of course do whatever you believe is right, I just wanted to make this comment.

GDP per capita: Israel ranks among the highest in the world for GDP per capita, around $58,270 in 2023, according to the IMF.
Total GDP: Its total GDP was estimated at $564 billion in 2023, placing it above countries like Singapore and Hong Kong. Global Ranking: The Economist ranked Israel's economy as the 4th most successful among developed countries in 2022.

I'm sure they'll manage.

Now let's continue talking about how we can influence/pressure the current government to stop slaughtering and starving children.

Got anything to contribute?

Excellent points juju !

yes innocent civilians and their businesses will be affected.

That's the fallout of boycotts but well within the Israeli Governments remit to prevent that happening

Yep and our children and grandchildren will ask
What did you do whilst Israel committed genocide?
Who did you support ?

Let’s not be ashamed to answer those questions by doing as much as we can

Why was there no mention of the 48 Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza at this event? Surely all these musicians and artists want both Israelis and Palestinians to be treated with decency and humanity?

Surely they mentioned the hostages and condemned hamas, surely? Or was it just a bunch of thick luvvies in keffiyehs parroting 'free palestine' as it's fashionable wirh some? I bet most of them don't even know where gaza is.

Did you miss the title
Its about Palestinians or does everyone always have to concider others all the time
Why can't they speak out for Palestinians it’s not much to ask given the ongoing situation

Perhaps get a concert going for the hostages if you want. We won’t come on here and ask why 65,000 murdered Palestinians weren’t honoured too. We will respect your time a place

It's about the conflict. The hostages are part of that conflict. It is absolutely appalling if not one 'celeb' mentioned them.

Maybe they did. Did anyone actually go?

Gloriia · 20/09/2025 16:35

It's not a publicity stunt. The co-op have a long history of having ethical trading values, from fair trade and sound sourcing to investing in communities.

They are one of the most consistently ethical companies Britain has ever had.

I won't click on the link thanks. I'm boycotting them.
