App to boycott Israeli goods

1000 replies

Everexpanding · 14/09/2025 10:49

the “No Thanks” app, which first appeared almost two years ago carrying a large list of companies and brands consumers might consider boycotting because of Israeli links.
The app has become a key tool for the BDS movement that targets Israel economically for the actions of its government and its military in Gaza.
Along with a list of companies and brands to boycott, the app allows users to scan barcodes to find out more about the relationship particular products have with Israel.

Is there one for brands with Chinese links, after their genocide of Uyghur Muslims?

How about one for brands with ties to Iran after their funding of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis?

Or one for brands with ties to the UAE after they happily transfer weapons to Sudan after the recent genocide there?

Or one for brands with ties to Russia?

Or is it only Jews we hold to account?

hear hear. Selective outrage 🙄

Redrosesposies · 20/09/2025 00:31

Well I've stopped shopping at the Coop. I don't need an App for that.

20,000 children dead, 30,000 children injured many with multiple amputations, the rest of Gaza’s children traumatised and malnourished. What part of this should people not be outraged by??

The Coop is stopping, as of the beginning of this year, sourcing products from Israel ( and 16 other countries ) including ingredients for its own brand products.

The coop is not one to worry about

Oh ffs noone has ever said you shouldn't be outraged. We are all outraged. The selective bit is so little outrage for Hamas and so little for the outrageous things happening anywhere else.

That article was written in October 2023.

He does provide a convincing argument against the colonisation narrative. He also attempts to be fair. For example- he justly criticises what has happened to the Palestinians in the West Bank:

“I should also say that Israeli rule of the Occupied Territories of the West Bank is different and, to my mind, unacceptable, unsustainable, and unjust. The Palestinians in the West Bank have endured a harsh, unjust, and oppressive occupation since 1967. Settlers under the disgraceful Netanyahu government have harassed and persecuted Palestinians in the West Bank: 146 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem were killed in 2022 and at least 153 in 2023 before the Hamas attack, and more than 90 since.”

Given this, I wonder what he would think about what has happened in Gaza since he wrote that article. There clearly wasn’t a genocide happening in Gaza then, but that can’t be argued now - and at least there are concerns about war crimes.

I wonder what his response would be now to Knesset members suggesting what sounds like ethnic cleansing of Gaza, the continued annexation of West Bank?

I couldn’t find anything more recent written by him about the situation in Gaza…

Why don't you ask him?

Katkins17 · 20/09/2025 07:06

And is it an apple phone you’ll be accessing this app on….??

An American owned company…who supply weapons to Israel…

or is the though of boycotting your phone too far ?

Stripes56 · 20/09/2025 07:48

SharonEllis · 20/09/2025 06:35

Why don't you ask him?

I don’t think I need to. I understand that for a lot of people who love Israel, Netanyahu’s government is a disaster.

But his article doesn’t completely support your narrative of fair and equitable treatment of Palestinians by Netanyahu’s government.

Where have I ever said Netanyahu's government treats anyone fairly or equitably?
Please show me.
And it wasn't what his article was about either.

My narrative was that its a complete misunderstanding of the history of Israel and the Jewish people to call it a colonialist state

All of it.

But outrage also for the Yemeni children? The Syrians. All the shit that’s going on.

Why do Palestinians move you more?

Sorry @SharonEllis - I misunderstood an earlier post you made.

I didn’t appreciate that you do agree with the article you linked, that the Palestinians in the West Bank have been treated appallingly, unjustly and not in an equitable manner since 1967.

Perhaps you can then also understand why people want to boycott goods from the occupied territories?

I think it's just stuff like hummus and Quavers folk are happy to compromise on. Not the important stuff.

Well boycotts work both ways surely. Shoppers will also boycott shops who boycott Israel/Jewish companies.

Stripes56 · 20/09/2025 09:07

SharonEllis · 20/09/2025 08:09

Of course.

Then it doesn’t take a great leap of imagination to understand why some people feel the inequitable treatment of the Palestinian citizens specifically in the West Bank was systemic and arguably amounted to Apartheid? One can argue that this was done partly for security reasons, but that argument does not explain all the appalling disrespect and ill treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank?

Could it be to do with scale ? *If we deal only with children

October 7th : 36 children, murdered

Gaza to date: 20,000 children murdered

Tell me why you don’t post about this @SharonEllis selectivity? Racism?

because everyone else might be smeared as Hamas despite figures showing 86% killed in Gaza at a minimum are civilians)

'because everyone else might be smeared as Hamas despite figures showing 86% killed in Gaza at a minimum are civilians)'

This has been debunked widely . We've also discussed it at length on these threads. 86% killed were not civilians. The guardian reporting was unsurprisingly crap in their interpretation of that info.

Gloriia · 20/09/2025 09:21

'Could it be to do with scale ? If we deal only with children'

Every death matters. However let's not just talk about scale and talk about method, unpleasant though it is.

So Oct 7th armed terrorists went into people's homes and slaughtered children in cold blood. The retaliation has meant airtsrikes have sadly killed civilians as hamas have done nothing to protect their civilians. So yes scale is something but murder v civilian deaths in a warzone is far more relevant.

Hi can you share where it has been debunked as all the reports and articles I have read on it say that it has an extraordinarily high number of civilian casualties compared to other conflicts.

Didn't all begin on Oct 7th though did it. The apartheid, exploitation, oppression murder and slaughter of palestinian civilians, including children, has been going on daily for decades.

Might switch my current account and regular savings to co-op too. They're offering 175 to switch! They've got a cracking interest of 7% on a regular saver too!

Why is this not on the Martin Lewis Money saving website????

Oops Yes sorry it looks like it is actually 93% of those killed in Gaza are civilians per more up to date reporting yesterday
