Twiglets1 · 07/08/2025 10:18

Sky News report that Israel is expected to approve Benjamin Netanyahu's plan for a takeover of Gaza when the security cabinet meets later today.

According to the Times of Israel, the full cabinet is due to convene at 6pm local time, 4pm in the UK.

Israeli media are reporting that the plan could potentially span over five months, and it is likely to be aimed at destroying Hamas and pressuring it to free remaining hostages.

While some ministers have been critical of the plan, reports suggest Netanyahu is likely to secure a majority of support.

A selfie?? A Palestinian taking a selfie with their leaders is proof that they are terrorists? The world has gone mad.

A journalist meeting political figures is a new one on me I have to say, I'm really glad they pulled that out of the bag. I for one have never heard of journalists meeting people with power and influence before. Leaders notoriously never speak to or meet journalists and journalists famed for their lack of curiosity would certainly never meet or interview people that they don't agree with.

As a side note did you know that Louis Theroux is an extremist settler now? Apparently he was spotted multiple times years apart with Israeli extremists, the whole 'journalist' thing is just a guise to cover up his involvement. He's also been spotted hanging out with the kkk, make of that what you will 🤔

Fancy someone openly posting RIP 💔 in response to the death of an Islamic terrorist on a UK parenting website called Mumsnet, and it being allowed to stand.

Why don’t you start a thread honouring them as Israel eliminate them@Kakeandkake?

Our MSM have not reported his death as a terrorist. I am in the UK, where are you?

They have only reported is as Israeli allegations that they don't consider has substantial proof.

You take offence at that, maybe you haven't seen some of the disgusting posts that justify the murder and genocide of the Palestinians. On a parenting site for mums!

Are Hamas normal "political figures" like you get in a democratic country - UK leaders for example?

Oh no! They are a bunch of terrorists whose top leadership wouldn't be seen dead being photographed with any "journalist" who wasn't highly supportive of them.

It's not like they enjoy a balanced debate is it? They wouldn't be joining a panel representing different views like a Gaza-style Question Time.

There is not any other war that I have seen in my lifetime where the army of a Western affiliated democracy, as opposed to an evil terrorist organisation and its supporters, reporting this would be disbelieved and that proves the disgraceful bias against Israel.

I have not seen any posts that justify the murder and genocide of the Palestinians. Who posted them.

Nice deflection from you being heartbroken about the death of a disgusting terrorist.

Kakeandkake · 11/08/2025 09:41

This is how MSM has reported his murder.

They call it 'how Israel silences journalists.'

Analysis: This is how journalists are silenced - and Israel knows this
By Diana Magnay, international correspondent, in Jerusalem
The targeted killing of Al Jazeera journalist Anas al Sharif and four other colleagues by the IDF late last night silences more crucial reporting voices from inside Gaza.
The IDF wasted no time in releasing a statement claiming it had "eliminated" al Sharif, calling him a "terrorist" who "posed" as a journalist for Al Jazeera.
The Committee to Protect Journalists warned in July that al Sharif was the victim of an Israeli smear campaign and that they feared for his safety.
The IDF had previously released documents they say proved his involvement with Hamas. No word from them on his colleagues who they also killed. We are chasing.
Anas al SharifAl Jazeera via AP
Al Sharif's death - and that of his four colleagues - is a chilling message to the journalistic community both on the ground and elsewhere ahead of Israel's impending push into Gaza City.
There will now be fewer journalists left to cover that story, and - if it is even possible - they will be that bit more fearful.
This is how journalists are silenced. Israel knows this full well.

Just read this and it reminded me how far off peace really is. There are such extreme views on both sides and so many innocent people stuck in the middle. Even if Hamas are wiped out in the coming weeks and Gaza is ‘free’, I don’t think Palestinians are going to feel at peace any time soon.

Keep reading, it's then fact-checked, and Grok says this:

"The screenshot appears verified, as it's cited by the IDF and reported in sources like The New York Times and Arab News without debunkings. It's a public Telegram post (1.4K views), not private. He likely wrote in English to reach an international audience, as an Al Jazeera correspondent."

I know Jeremy Bowen isn’t the ultimate authority on such matters but here’s his opinion:

The Israeli military is saying that it targeted Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif in a strike because he was a "terrorist". It alleges the existence of documents which "unequivocally prove" this affiliation.

Yet this claim goes against al-Sharif's long record as a journalist.

al-Sharif, who was Palestinian, was part of a team already working for Al Jazeera in Gaza before 7 October, before Israel closed the gates of Gaza to people like myself.

Israel alleges that al-Sharif was a terrorist, and the IDF produced a graphic claiming to show Hamas activity. I have seen it and it is not convincing.”

BelleHathor · 11/08/2025 09:57

Also, fact checked by Grok is not of any substance. Considering that a couple of weeks ago Grok was happily calling itself "Mecha Hitler" and happily sharing antisemitic takes.

Interesting info. I assume he was focused on the settler side of the issue in this article and I think that’s okay - the victims in that ‘story’ deserve a voice too and it’s an issue that needs to be spoken about when discussing peace in the region. You can’t bring in everything to every article, especially when it’s so complex.

And the increase in terrorism threats in 2024 makes perfect sense. They’re at war with terrorists, there’s an increase in settlers and a lot of innocent people have been killed by the IDF. It’s a recipe for more hatred not less.

Kakeandkake · 11/08/2025 10:21

"Before Al-Sharif was killed by Israel, the CPJ and the UN had condemned threats against him.
A UN expert on press freedom said there is "growing evidence" journalists in Gaza have been "targeted and killed by the Israeli army on the basis of unsubstantiated claims that they were Hamas terrorists".
"On the one hand, Israel refuses to allow any international journalists to enter Gaza, and on the other, it ruthlessly smears, threatens, obstructs, targets and kills the few local journalists remaining as the only eyes of the outside world on the ongoing genocide," UN special rapporteur on freedom of expression Irene Khan said."

Once again, it is Israel that is at odds with most of it's western allies. The Israeli war criminals must be held to account.

Exactly, either we take everything Grok says as gospel or we acknowledge that any AI is only as "good" as the algorithm it has currently been programmed to run by its human coders (code that will also reflect any biases the programmer may have).

There isn't any other war in your lifetime where such a high percentage of journalists have been killed. More journalists have been killed in Gaza than in both world wars, the Vietnam War, the wars in Yugoslavia and the United States war in Afghanistan combined. A sickening statistic especially when you realise that the population of Gaza is only 2 million people. This coupled with Israels refusal to let foreign journalists into Gaza unless selected by and closely monitored by them certainly makes this a very unique conflict and one worthy of highlighting.

You keep going on about MSM in the UK but I have read lots of sources from Googling the story in the UK and they aren’t saying he is a member of Hamas or he isn’t a member of Hamas.

They have confirmed that he was one of 6 journalists specifically targeted by the IDF as they believe him to be a Hamas militant. He reached their short list for a reason.

And there is evidence to support that - from a screenshot of the documents the IDF recovered, from his X account & from the selfie he took of him looking chummy with the top Hamas leaders.

Ultimately, we won’t convince each other because no one knows for sure. What we can say for sure is that there is doubt that he was an ordinary journalist with no Hamas connections.

If you watch the video in that 2nd link of my above post, it seems Gazans themselves were unhappy with him.

Twiglets1 · 11/08/2025 10:36

@Kakeandkake to say he is not a terrorist according to the UK government is disingenuous.

Neither are thousands of individual Hamas members, though they are a proscribed terrorist group. It’s only the leadership where the UK know enough about their identities to make them proscribed terrorists.

Of course he would be branded as an islamic terrorist, isn't everyone a terrorist in Gaza according to some posters, the men, women, children, the dogs and cats, the birds, the insects, they're all Hamas.

See that is no longer a working excuse to justifies the murderous genocide being forced on people.

Many Jewish people are standing against this bloody genocide, the hardliners will continue with their support even when the truth is blindingly obvious.
