The Israeli government is proposing building a 'refugee' centre in Rafah with an extra special feature - no one is allowed to leave.

Palestinian ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot sums up the situation in Palestine today:

There is a dangerous silence surrounding what is happening in Palestine right now.
As international attention has shifted to Israel’s wars across the region, state-backed settler militias are intensifying their campaign of terror in the occupied West Bank — such systematic terror attacks are being almost entirely ignored by UK and global media.
Last night, three Palestinians were murdered in Abu Falah. Days earlier, settlers killed two brothers — Mohammad Taha Maamar (52) and Faheem Taha Maamar (48) — in Qaryut.
Let us be clear: these settler militias are acting in accordance with the policies of the government of Israel. Operating under cover of occupation forces, they are an arm of the Israeli state, advancing a single goal: the annexation of the West Bank and the systematic erasure of Palestinian national life.
While regional wars dominate the headlines, Israel is accelerating its assault on Palestine — a genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank — shielded by the deafening silence of the global media.
History may not repeat. But it definitely rhymes.

Amal Shamaly, another Palestinian journalist, killed today. One of many others killed in ongoing attacks on tents in displacement camps in and around Gaza.

It is just unspeakable.

Are we becoming numbed and has this become normalised, while the atrocities continue to spread? No media coverage in Palestine or Iran.

Trying to process the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza…. Palestine … now Lebanon? while the bombs are dropping on Iranians.

Feels like everyone is concerned with military strategy when focus should just be stop.
Not sure this is the right thread any more even to express concerns as US are so involved but it’s somewhere.

Feel free to express your concerns, it's healthy and human and we're all here 💐.

The reason it feels numb (in my case at least) is that it is pure evil we've witnessed with a heavy dose of gaslighting to try and normalise exterminating people and dealing with people who cheerlead, make excuses for it and call people who care names.

Remember the mainstream media is and always has been complicit in covering up what is happening in the region and are just as guilty for what's currently being inflicted on upon Palestinian, Lebanese and Iranian civilians.

That's why I'm mainly on other social media boosting voices in the region and also making Americans see what's being done in their "name" and for whom and encouraging them to vote accordingly in the midterms (noting that Biden and Kamala are just as guilty as Trump).

Ellen2shoes · 11/03/2026 22:47

Thank you @BelleHathor . I agree, I believe we are collectively responsible for all of this.

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2026 00:00

They use the same formula every time. It’s so tiresome to deal with. I make my feelings known elsewhere and to a wider audience.

Ellen2shoes · 12/03/2026 00:30

True. Elsewhere I suppose is always a possibility but when everyone agrees, it’s limited differently. There are so many people who want this to stop. Has mnet really changed that much? It’s a shame that such a huge global issue has become sidelined from 8m users to a board that is monopolised by a handful of very persistent loud voices starting multiple threads. Not sure how this can be countered by MNet going forward.

BelleHathor · 12/03/2026 07:30

Yup, agree JaneJeffer the behaviour is abusive and the formula so predictable/repetitive its an insult to intelligence. Petty name calling, so instead of arguing, I just make sure I tell more people facts about situation elsewhere and it's proving effective.

Ellen2shoes a system that needs to be maintained by controlling the narrative is a fragile system that's not long for this world.

Feel heartened that CITME is very much in the minority, outside (even on other boards on mumsnet) people's eyes are very much opened to what's happening and who is to blame. Ignore the echo chamber, they're not aware of the real feeling and are in for a big shock in the future if they actually believe that things will return to the status quo.

Mumsnet don't want to counter it. I've had discussions with mumsnet about things that have happened on this board and it was enlightening to say the least. After my latest round of discussions I decided to stop posting here, it's not worth it. Mumsnet don't give a shit, I won't say too much but mumsnet made it clear that they moderate on vibes not the actual talk guidelines and the vibes of posters on this thread aren't the ones they are feeling.

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2026 12:15

I could say a lot about my experience but it’s best not to as the balance of power does not swing in my direction.

I asked for some guidance the other night and felt unsure whether I was actually talking to ai because of the vague responses I got. I was unable to carry on posting on that thread afterwards because I was none the wiser as to what the actual rules are.

In other news:

“A High Court judge has ruled in favour of Guardian columnist Owen Jones in a libel case brought against him by a BBC editor.
Raffi Berg, the BBC’s Middle East editor, took legal action in November last year over a report by Jones which laid the blame for the BBC’s biased coverage of the Gaza genocide largely at Berg’s door.
The high court has now ruled that the article’s argument was acceptable because it expressed an opinion based on a quoted body of material.
“I am delighted that the high court has ruled in my favour on the key issues in the libel case brought by Raffi Berg,” said Jones.
“I stand by my journalism and, if Mr Berg decides to continue the libel claim, I look forward to defending my article in court.”
In his article for Drop Site News, Jones accused Berg of sanitising coverage of Israel’s genocidal violence in Gaza.
“The implication is that my client goes around making decisions that actively favour Israel,” Berg’s barrister told the court at a hearing on Friday. “He is a bent journalist, that’s what the article is saying.”
Berg instructed Mark Lewis of Patron Law, previously a director of UK Lawyers for Israel, as his solicitor.” from Novara Media

The Israeli military says it is dropping charges against five soldiers who were accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee in a purported assault partially caught on camera.

It’s a bombshell development in a case that has divided Israel ever since the country moved to arrest the soldiers at the Sde Teiman military prison, which was set up to hold Palestinians rounded up in Gaza during Israel’s war against the Hamas militant group, in 2024.

A video of the alleged assault, which was aired by Israeli news, shows soldiers taking a detainee into an area they cordoned off with shields in an apparent attempt to hide their actions. The indictment said the soldiers assaulted the Palestinian prisoner and sodomized him with a knife, causing multiple injuries

Oh absolutely, there are posters I know who don't post much but "react" to posts and I love them and am so happy so know/see that they're safe and still around and care ❤️💜.

This can be quite a scary place to be or post on as new posters are sometimes "ganged up" on and effectively bullied or mass reported if their post is not "perfect".

Wouldn't have expected anything different 😡 they're obviously only concerned about sexual assault when the victim is not Palestinian.

There is something rotten to the core in a judiciary that can ignore video evidence to allow this crime to go ignored.

Palestinian children can be murdered or imprisoned (and many here have justified this) for throwing stone but a gang rape is not prosecuted.

Make it make sense at this stage

It doesn't make sense to those that don't dehumanise Palestinian people but it does to those that do. I mean they're viewed as "human animals" but I don't think many respectful moral people would even treat an animal like that.

I’m so glad of this outcome. Love or hate OJ, this is the investigation that was needed. I wrote to the BBC so many times knowing there was something wrong. So many BBC journalists inside did too.
I get that main media outlets are biased but it’s worth remembering that it just takes one or a handful with power to fck it for everyone.

Reading the news from Lebanon lately is just awful. I saw a video of a heartbroken father mourning his 4 daughters, a mother at the funeral of her 5 children. Displaced people being bombed, medics being killed, families being decimated. It's all so familiar. It must be terrifying for the people of Lebanon knowing what Israel are capable of and knowing they are the ones in Israels sights now.

Ellen2shoes · 14/03/2026 17:03

It’s just relentless and I can’t see how this is going to stop. It still hasn’t stopped in Gaza as Israel is still bombing survivors in their tents there even as they attack Lebanon. I was listening to a BBC reporter back from Lebanon talking about the magnitude of each of these missiles - the radius of a bomb blast is huge. Nowhere is safe.
