Well it's up to Hamas now......let's see how much they value their people.

A Palestinian woman looks to her right, sitting amidst the rubble of a very badly damaged building in Gaza City

Trump says Israel has agreed to conditions for 60-day Gaza ceasefire

US president warns Hamas "it will only get worse" if they do not accept the deal.

it was always up to hamas.
they will not accept.
Hama's one and only goal is to destroy Israel.

mids2019 · 02/07/2025 05:28

Why are all these refusals of Hamas to accept peace terms airbrushed out of the genocide narrative people want to push? Never had a genocide been negotiated on. The News couldn't exactly go to Hitler and say alright we are losing so let's make peace terms.....that's not how genocide works.

Absolutely this.

Any ceasefire will depend on both sides abiding by it ( something Israel’s isn’t good at) and the terms being acceptable to both

a ceasefire that leaves Isreal in control of Palestine isn’t going to be popular with Hamas or the Palestinians is it?

hey let’s get a ceasefire in the Ukraine - if Ukraine would just surrender to Russia it will all be fine

From the article Hamas has long called for a permanent truce and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Why haven't Israel agreed to peace terms? It doesn't get better than a permanent truce unless of course you've got genocide in the back of your mind.

Hey guys we just want peace but we want to stay occupying you, stay starving you and keep you living in a condensed part of Gaza where there is no real sanitation. If starvation and disease takes you all out that would be such a shame. You really should agree to this because if you don't we will have to bomb and shoot you all instead and that's kind of messy and makes Daddy Trump mad.

You believe Hamas want peace. Was a mass slaughter inducive to peace talks?

EasternStandard · 02/07/2025 10:36

Why wouldn’t Hamas accept?

dairydebris · 02/07/2025 10:38

Come on Hamas, for the first time ever do the right thing by your people and accept terms, return hostages and fuck off forever.

( or dont accept terms and wait and see how far BN and DT will take this Gaza Riviera plan, and how many more innocent civilians will needlessly perish in the meantime )

I see the usual suspects on here performing usual mental gymnastics to make continued conflict entirely Israel's fault. What a surprise.

It's clearly a two way street isn't it, peace. The question is is it actually peace for Palestinians if they are kept locked up in a small part of Gaza living on rations with no sanitation and inadequate healthcare.

That's not peace. That's peace for Israelis only while Palestinians suffer just like pre Oct 7 and look how that turned out for everyone.

Oh give over.

Its not up to Israel to build a viable state and ensure a decent standard of living for Palestinians. Thats for Palestinians to sort for themselves.

Here's hoping that somehow some decent leadership will arise from the ashes Hamas has bought upon Gaza, and decent Palestinians can start rebuilding their lives under leadership that isn't solely focused upon murdering Jews. I'm confident that after a few years of no suicide bombs, no intifada's, no hostage taking and no murdering of kids at parties then Israel can relax their oppression.

I'm not going to be responding to you directly anymore, you've nothing helpful to add and this thread is about hope for a ceasefire and Hamas fucking off.

NiMaithLiomDeLuain · 02/07/2025 11:01

Literally nobody is asking them to. Nobody wants them to. They want Israel to 'fuck off' and leave Palestinians alone. The whole reason Israel won't agree to a permanent ceasefire is that they don't want to leave Palestinians alone, they won't agree to withdraw and let Palestinians and aid agencies ensure a decent standard of living.

If you aren't grasping the very basics of what is happening at this point you are probably best keeping out of discussions on it. Wise decision.

But Gaza has been bombed to bits. By Israel? We can't pretend that Gaza now is the same as Gaza previously.

YourOnMute · 02/07/2025 11:05

We know from the past that a ceasefire agreement needs negotiation. I hope that process happens and both parties come to an agreement.

It's crazy, Palestinians should ensure a decent standard of living for themselves in 10% of Gaza where they aren't allowed control over their own food or proper sanitation. If they play nice in their little disease ridden camps for years then maybe the survivors can be free from oppression. That sounds like 'peace' to some people. It's sick.

But it’s always Israel that breaks the ceasefire. Sometimes not even ceasing fire at all. Last time there were several ‘random’ shootings during the ceasefire.

Yes Gaza is not the same.
My hope is more for a leader to come who wants peace with Israel and prosperity for their own people.
I think they'd have to be prepared to put up with a few more years of blockade etc in order to build trust but I believe it can happen.
Israel needs to have leadership that wants peace too, I do get that.
First of all, Hamas needs to go. Once that oppression of opposition is gone, perhaps moderates can rise.

It wasn't Israel that broke the ceasefire on 7 October was it? Quite a big one, that.

NWL · 02/07/2025 11:14

Do we know what the terms of ceasefire are?

Its all very well saying they have agreed to what they want, but what have they actually agreed to…

They didn’t even have any control over their own land - Israel controlled all movement in and out of Gaza. Hard to know how Palestinians are expected to rebuild themselves when Israel has put them in what can only be described as an open air prison.

Control on what and who goes in and out of Gaza yes, but they ( Hamas ) had control of what happened in Gaza. How the aid was spent. Politics, elections. Education. All their focus was still on murdering Jews, and we ended up with 7 October. You could make a powerful argument that Gaza wasn't under enough of a blockade. Hamas chose 7 October, never forget, they freely chose what they did. It wasn't an open air prison. There was restaurants, family homes, employment, much much more, until Hamas chose to destroy it.
Its very hard to know how to rebuild yes. But it is possible. There will be aid. There will be help. But it all hangs on proper leadership forming in the vacuum Hamas will leave.

🙏🙏🙏🙏

The complete absence of any reference to Hamas by the Pro Pal wunderkids continuously astounds me.

I'm not sure if Hamas going is a solution, considering that Netanyahu has stated that he's financing and supporting a rival, more extreme, Isis like group. I'd be worried that a vacuum might lead to a worse, more chaotic solution.
Also Hamas have to be involved in negotiations. As unpalatable, hard, hurtful as it is for both sides: as we see from previous experiences, not just in the Middle East, it has to start.
I hope it does and peace comes.
(Also I don't think the ongoing blockade continuing could be on the table honestly).

where does the Hamas fit into your narrative? It launched a brutal war on Israel on October 7 in the most horrific way. It continues to want to destroy Israel. It’s just been very unsuccessful.
