European Commission President days Iran shouldn't have nuclear weapons. Israel has right to defend itself

"European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said she told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday that diplomacy was ultimately best on Iran, but stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Von der Leyen said that she agreed with Netanyahu in a telephone call that "Iran should not have a nuclear weapon, without any question."

Von der Leyen has previously criticised Israel's actions in Gaza, but said that Iran's non-compliance with the UN nuclear watchdog meant Israel "has the right to defend itself".

"Iran is the principal source of regional instability," she added."

Come back and talk when you've watching the Stoning of Sorya - based on a true story. That will tell you all you need to know about Iran's stability.

I’ve been watching too much violence in the past 20 months.
But again, you are incorrectly interpreting my support for peace and international law as support for an oppressive regime.
i wish freedom, peace and prosperity to all Iranians (all earthlings, actually).
It is for Iranians to determine how they live, not for Israelis and Americans.

You see, I now believe you're not posting in good faith. I hope that's the case because the alternative is unthinkable.

What’s your view on Iran developing nuclear weapons?

Should that happen?

I have no say in the matter.
They were not planning to have one, but now they will do all they can to have it, it’s self-defence.

What are you basing your certainty for ‘were not planning to have one’ on?

IAEA and the us intelligence.

But it doesn’t matter now. They will be on a different path.

Do you think the G7 and U v d L are wrong to see it as a threat?

Confirmation bias 👍🏼

We don’t know what they think or what they see as threats.
I guess they don’t want a war with the USA (who does?), so they will keep following them.
We just know that what they say makes less and less sense, so fewer people trust them.

Yes we do. You’re on a thread with their quote in the op.

Do you believe a 90mln+ country should have access to radiotherapy? Nuclear power for energy?

So you were incorrect on not knowing what leaders think. G7 and EC have made statements.

Are you keen for Iran to have nuclear weapon capability? Are you in the U.K. out of interest?

Silence1 · 18/06/2025 14:32

EasternStandard · 17/06/2025 18:54

On googling it looks like the majority do not support the regime.

ETA appreciate the insight.

Narges Mohammadi was on the news and saying Israel is bombing civilian areas. She also said that although many do hate the regime, they equally hate Israel right now, that the people of Iran don't deserve this and they want Israel to stop.

I respect her opinion above any posters on here.

She's a clearly highly intelligent and accomplished woman. Obviously you can disagree with her on certain matters but to have no respect for her at all? In her position? Very bizarre.

That’s a bit pointless to focus on. Statements are there to understand direction those people will take.

If no answer on the U.K. question then I understand you might have different concerns.

Agree - it is a direction they choose for us.
The reasoning behind it could be different.

Also, unaccountable.

Of course you do, she confirms your bias.

Findoutmode · 18/06/2025 14:56

What's the point of these threads?

Opinions are entirely entrenched, especially form the anti Israel gang, it's not informative just online rants from keyboard warriors.

Why don't you quit your screens and go out to speak with real people, breathe in some fresh summer air and enjoy yourselves in real life?

It could all be over soon if some are to be believed, or Israel has just saved us all from nuclear threat. Who knows.

But arguing online is the most pointless thing.

I'm hoping that all the posts are actually from badly programmed bots as the thought that people sit glued to their screens to argue with strangers about things they have zero influence on is quite sad.

Most informative and persuasive post I've seen on this topic so far.

I think I'll take your advice and leave the anti Israel gang to their echo chamber, batshit conspiracy theories and fake statements.
