Israel is a country at war and I know many will have links or family in that country so I think it appropriate to wish them safety in the coming days.

Let’s be really clear (channeling my inner Keir Starmer here) The majority of US and UK citizens do not care about Gaza, Iran or any other backwards civilisation.
It’s great if your life isn’t shit and you have space to give a shit then you do you and keep protesting.
There are however millions who would rather not get involved with this shit and do not gaf about any Middle East country.
If you were that bothered you’d be enrolled into a peace keeping mission rather than spouting bollocks on MN

Last night some Israelis were cheering on and chanting for the village to burn. This was because the Iranian missile struck a area in Israel where some Arabs reside. Jewish Israelis cheering on the death of Arab Israelis.

I don't have much hope for peace when this level of hatred exist.

Oh this is fairly common with Israelis. I was at a BBQ some time ago and the hosts and several guests were from Israel originally. The guys constantly referred to "Arabs" in a contemptuous and derogatory way. It made me quite uncomfortable as I have had always close muslim friends. They felt clearly entitled to speak in a racist and dehumanising way about Arabs. It's a great shame. I like Israeli culture, food and respect that they are striving as a country but many Israelis do hate Arabs, by and large, just as Palestinians hate Jewish people.

Have you got an example of "Arabs" being used in a derogatory way,

No example, it's a while ago. I know what I heard, I'm quite pro-Israel (beautiful country, people and culture) but yeah, the guys (very educated middle class left leaning in all other ways) talked about Arabs in a a dehumanising way.

Why was jujujudo's post deleted?

Madcatdudette · 15/06/2025 15:09

@greencartbluecart Yet I haven’t seen any poster that has been pro Israel and anti Palestine.
Please count them because all I see is the pro Palestine folk who refuse to understand why Israel are doing what they are doing 🤷‍♀️
All I see is obvious Islamists who are refusing to acknowledge the reason Israel are still fighting for a place to be free from persecution

So now we should be horrified and triggered by someone saying Arabs?
You are saying that if someone says ‘Arabs’ they are terribly racist?

So one anecdote = Israelis are Arab-haters ....

As opposed to, well, thousands and millions of examples of documented Jew-hatred, starting with 6 million 1939-1944 and 1,300 on October 7th.

How were they ‘demonising’ Arabs?
Were they really?

After they had their land stolen from them. Surprise surprise.

It wasn't all arab land, there were Jewish, Christian and other people all living there.

A lot of people think they are as clever as James O’Brien on LBC at pretending to be fair minded and impartial while using the unintended civilian casualties to cleverly slip in the antisemitism.

Most of the pro-Palestine brigade on MN are far more clumsy and the antisemitism is usually clearly on view after a couple of sentences or posts.

Clearly Israel must want this given they have disrupted the Iranian/American nuclear disarmament talks by bombing them. Proving the need for them to have their own nuclear deterrent.

I’m touched that you had faith that Iran would voluntarily give up its stated aim to nuke Israel off the face of the planet, it only the US spoke nicely to them for a bit longer.

Back in the real world, have you read Matthew Syed’s piece in The Times today? You might find it interesting.

I obviously realise that time can be Arab Christian and Arab Jewish.

Who did the Ottoman empire steal it from before?

Quite. Somebody recently questioned use of the term Arabs, insinuating it was a mocking word! This is where people. Who are ignorant on the history of the conflict, and its players, need to tread carefully. The worst culprits are those who think they know what zionism is. That's the most dangerous misuse of an ideology, hijacked by ignorant troublemakers.

It’s wholly irrelevant. The only thing that is relevant is that Arabs and Jews were given land. The Jews welcomed it the Arabs didn’t.

Oh do fuck off @Madcatdudette - your nonsense is absolutely not representative of ‘the majority’ of British people at all. If nothing else, some of us realise that the world is bigger than our own little bubble and actually understand history. ‘A quarrel in a far away country between people of whom we know nothing’ indeed!

So it's only relevant who stole it when it's stolen from people who now refer to themselves as Palestinian. There were other people on these lands too. It's not relevant if stolen from people before? Why?

Many countries have stolen land over the centuries during wars etc if you go back enough should all lands be reassigned.

Livelovebehappy · 15/06/2025 15:28

I feel immense sympathy and sorrow for Israel. Theyre surrouned by countries anf people headed up by rogue regimes. They have trouble on all sides. Hopefully they will come through it all okay.

Kakeandkake · 15/06/2025 13:56

This little fact is conveniently forgotten about just so they can claim the whole “they hate Israel only because they’re Jewish” and not because “they took the homes and lands of people who were already living there”.

Not sure how many other people would be expected to hand over their homes and land with a smile and just accept it.

How to tell when somebody understates the atrocities of the biggest genocide in history. It's like jewish persecution is just an aside.

Your ignorance is astounding. The Jewish people come from Israel. I dont believe god gave it to them because Im an atheist, but its historical fact. Zionism, the desire to return to Israel, not the Herzl variety, runs through Judaism long before the 20th century. Australia is a nonsense.

myplace · 15/06/2025 15:43

Was it stolen? Or was it partitioned among people who lived there, requiring some of the people on each side to relocate?
