Israel is a country at war and I know many will have links or family in that country so I think it appropriate to wish them safety in the coming days.

Exactly. Alleged. Not even close.
A real genocide would mean every Gazan would have been bombed to death or now in interment camps, awaiting execution.

😮

Do you using full stops between words doesn’t make them any more correct.

It’s probably good to check things online before making such definitive statements (which are clearly wrong 🫣)

definition for you:
“The legal term “genocide” refers to certain acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.”

How intent could apply to IDF action in Gaza:
We have heard intent from Knesset members
They have blocked food and other essential medicines

5 categories defined- 3 seem to apply to situation in Gaza

  • Killing members of the group
  • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
  • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction, in whole or in part

Of course it alleged until proven by the case against Israel is being taken forward as there’s sufficient evidence to suggest probable genocide.

Here’s a link for you and how a Polish Jewish lawyer Raphael Lemkin led to it becoming enshrined in International Law after the holocaust:

What is Genocide? - United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Genocide as a term did not exist before 1944. Learn about its origins and legal definition.

Stripes56 · 19/06/2025 20:28

It doesn’t require every Gazan to be killed or awaiting execution

How long do.you think Iran has been funding the terrorist organisations that have been attacking Israel for years. This didn't 'start' a few days ago. 😕

Funny, i remember israel attacking palestine prior to october 2023 being ignored many many times.

That didn't take long.

It happens every time on both sides. If someone shows sympathy for Palestinians, a poster will say, ‘don’t you care about Oct 7th’. Perhaps you have said that yourself. It seems inevitable on every thread.

HellsBalls · 19/06/2025 21:25

@Stripes56 ”Do you using full stops between words doesn’t make them any more correct.”

Nor does saying genocide in every post make it any more true.

Oh give over. Are you going over there to help out? Or do you just post about how awful someone is for not caring about yet another religious conflict?

Maybe because the other posters thought you were dismissing their concerns given your apparent unawareness that alleged genocide doesn’t mean every last Gazan being killed by the IDF?

You said you dont give a fuck about Palestinians and similar many many times. That's very different to saying you don't care about a religious conflict.

You should learn the definition of a genocide as your understanding of it is completely incorrect.

2 million Gazans. Approx 30,000 civilian fatalities.
So that’s 1.5% of the population.

Not. A. Genocide.

I agree.

Stripes56 · 19/06/2025 22:10

@Kakeandkake
You have to give some posters credit.
Not only do they make up definitions for genocide, they also decide all men killed are Hamas. This seems like such an old argument that is so obviously incorrect. How can all Gazan men by Hamas?

They don’t take into account indirect death and suffering from IDF actions, and destruction of their infrastructure. They haven’t quite fully grasped the different categories of genocide.

But do you and @Dangermoo honestly feel confident and comfortable with the conduct of the Israeli administration during the war?

You don’t consider it a genocide, ok. But do you query why Gaza has the highest number of child amputees per capita in the world? When you hear about Palestinian’s dying via Israeli fire when they are trying to get aid - what do you think? When you see that children have started to starve to death or hear about the lies that the IDF told about the death of the paramedics? Or the reports by doctors of snipers shooting children ? Does any of it concern you or are you confident of this approach?

Would you value an independent investigation at this stage?

I am quite surprised my message saying I am glad I was not full of hate was deleted. Did you report it? This place puzzles me sometimes. What’s allowed to stay and what goes.

is your comment saying you don’t gaf about Palestine still standing do you know?

Strange place MN.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/06/2025 22:36

30, 000 fatalities? Thats a lie. 55,600, according to media reports. Over 50, 000 has been the number for months.

Civilian fatalities. Obviously there are Hamas operatives on top of that.

Very strange. I had messages deleted for saying I was against Israel’s action in Gaza a few
months and was accused of anti semitism for saying that. Think clueless moderators mostly and this put me off MN

Twiglets1 · 20/06/2025 06:58

@UnderFloorboards you did not just say I’m glad I’m not full of hate. You also insulted another MN user and that is why your post got deleted.

@Tillytir I didn’t see your post that got deleted. But logic tells us you did more than just saying you were against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

People say things a lot stronger than that against Israel on MN and their posts remain visible - hundreds of them.

Personal opinions are allowed to be expressed. Personal attacks are not.

HellsBalls · 20/06/2025 07:02

@PaxAeterna ”Would you value an independent investigation at this stage?”

Not at this stage during a war, no.
After the war, by independent, experienced investigators, not hand wringing do gooders, yes.

Thank you for your civil post. If Isreal is committing genocide, what do you call what is happening in Syria and Yemen?

PaxAeterna · 20/06/2025 08:05

In Syria right now? Very little conflict at all.

Even in Yemen the fighting between the main players has largely subsided.

Are you talking about a different time?

OK, what happened then, until fairly recently.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/5/1/what-is-behind-the-violence-in-syria

Admittedly this was in May, but there is unrest and violence in Syria as the new leadership 'settle in'. It's perhaps very little compared to their experience in the last couple of decades.

What is behind the violence in Syria?

Clashes in Damascus suburbs have killed more than 30 people this week.

it’s fairly accepted there was a genocide against the Yazidis in Iraq which was related to Syria.

But no neither the Syrian civil war nor Yemen is not considered a genocide by anyone. that’s not to say that there weren’t many human right abuses and war crimes committed.

Do you feel that there are war crimes in Gaza but not genocide?
