Yes, you have explained that Channel 4 interview better than I did. It is collusion between the media and the people. The people don’t want to know and the media comply.

Odras · 16/05/2025 22:40

I can well believe that most Israelis don’t grasp the level of suffering of Palestinians or care about it. Yes of course you can access any news if you want to but most of us look at our old reliable news sources. They also have a completely different view of the history of the area generally and the history of the conflict. Israel has always been surrounded by threat, it values military might. We see here the comment what if French people came over and murdered 1000 people? When honestly it’s bonkers to think that we’d annihilate France or that anyone reasonable would want to. But clearly some people are approaching this from a completely different perspective.

The Israeli administration has also put a lot of effort into smearing any criticism with anti semitism and using highly manipulative tactics like holding up the picture of the Bibas family to justify their actions.

So I can understand why they don’t seek out what is happening with Palestinians even though I don’t agree with it. More power to the Israelis, who despite their education and under great criticism, are speaking out for Gaza.

Well OK there will be censorship, but the Internet exists so very few states in the world can truly hide world events / except maybe North Korea (and then only to a certain extent). The key part of what Gideon Levy said (for me anyway) was "care about" he was saying they don't want to know. It doesn't suit them to acknowledge their Government are commiting a genocide.

I think its the same with the West Bank. Lots just pretend it's not happening, a kind of well it's not my business, I'm not a settler attitude. Not enough people actively care for there to be change.

One has to ask though how many countries would actively care enough? Islamaphobia is rife right now. It's the driving force behind the lack of action by the West on Palestine because we all know if it were Israelis that were being pushed into concentrated areas of Israel and photos of starved Israeli babies were coming out people wouldn't be making excuses for it. Action would be taken to get those poor babies enough nutrition to survive. There is so much dehunanisation when it comes to Palestinians that a lot of people not just Israelis simply don't care. It's awful but it's the truth.

It's part of the reason some people are so convinced that people talking about starvation, disease, bombings and war crimes are doing it because they antisemetic. They cannot grasp that some people would actually care what happens to Palestinians, its just such a foreign concept to them that they scramble around looking for another reason that people are talking about it.

As an aside how did Israel manage to stay in the Eurovision comp?!😮 how do they do it because wasn't Russia kicked out last year ?🤔

I think it’s a tiny slither of hope that Trump is changing his tune. Who knows what was involved in these deals he’s made over the last few days. I don’t think he’s got a humanitarian bone in his body but I wonder will he just get pissed off that after being armed up to to the back teeth by the US, Israel has gone rogue and is essentially uncontrollable and being the ultimate pain in the neck for him.

We have to help also out the Palestinians. You know, a lot of people are starving in Gaza, so we have to look at both sides," he said. When asked if he backed Israel's war plans, Trump said he expected "good things" over the next month

Deadly Israeli strikes pound Gaza, Trump says 'people are starving'

I read tonight that he is planning to ethnically cleanse 1million Palestinians from Gaza to Libya. Apparently In exchange, the US would potentially release to Libya billions of dollars of funds that were frozen more than a decade ago.

Honestly the Eurovision is nothing. It’s a song contest. It does not make a difference.

We need to start imposing severe economic consequences on Israel. There has been many words and very little action. Are we really going to sit here and watch a genocide happen in real time when we have Israeli cosmetics on our dressing tables and Israeli veg in the fridge.

Please would you link that information if possible?

Trump just wants to take Gaza for himself @Odras

As reported in the Guardian:

President Donald Trump said on Thursday he wanted the United States to “take” Gaza and turn it into a “freedom zone”, as the Israel-Hamas war rages on in the Palestinian territory, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“I have concepts for Gaza that I think are very good, make it a freedom zone, let the United States get involved and make it just a freedom zone,” the US leader said in Qatar, adding:
I’d be proud to have the United States have it, take it, make it a freedom zone.

End of an Era - Israel will need to start paying their own bills in the Trumpian era- the days of an almost blank cheque are over. He never was a Zionist but always a Trumpist and if Jonathon Freeland is sounding the alarm then it truly is alarming. The Arabs have bought their peace and Trump never forgot Netanhayu was the first leader to recognise and congrtaulate Biden.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/may/16/donald-trump-middle-east-tour-should-terrify-benjamin-netanyahu-usa-israel

As loudly and clearly as he can, Trump is telling Netanyahu that he is no longer No 1 and that he will not get in the way of whatever Trump decides best serves US, and his own, interests. Part of this is born of frustration with Netanyahu for failing to play his part in getting the Middle East to the stability, and therefore prosperity, that Trump thinks is possible and potentially profitable for the US. Put simply, what Trump wants from Netanyahu is to get the war on Hamas wrapped up and off the world’s TV screens – and the Israeli PM is not delivering.
You could hear that frustration in the remarks of Trump’s personal envoy, Steve Witkoff, to hostage families in Israel this week: “We want to bring the hostages home, but Israel is not willing to end the war. Israel is prolonging it.”

Whatsinanamehey · 17/05/2025 09:27

The genocide in Gaza has ramped up in the last week. Palestinians are being massacred at an unprecedented scale. I have no words I'm just so angry.

Whatsinanamehey · 17/05/2025 09:35

The UN aid chief has said the escalation coupled with the blockade of aid is 'tantamount to ethnic cleansing'

There's a huge demo in London today protesting against our useless government who is complicit in this genocide.

ScrollingLeaves · 17/05/2025 09:45

Thank you very much @Mylegishangingoff

Then it reports that before publication government officials who were asked refused to comment on this, but then, after publication an official spokesperson arrived to say it was ‘untrue’.

So we don’t absolutely know. We get an intentional fog.

Meanwhile, 100s more Palestinians are getting killed in Gaza everyday by U.S. supplied weapons and no U.S. stopping them.

I am similarly angry too, I am beyond words at this point. Trump did an interview with Fox last night where he mentioned 1.9 million Palestinians in Gaza, that's a wide discrepancy from the pre October 7th population of 2.1 to 2.2 million.

It's a systemic barbaric extermination:

"Israel named its latest Gaza assault “Gideon’s Chariots.”
In Judges, Gideon leads a divine slaughter—120,000 dead. Chariots symbolized unstoppable war.
This isn’t just biblical branding. It’s an extermination campaign draped in scripture.
And Gaza is cast as the Midianites.
#GideonsChariots "

This is the reality of what Israel is doing (part 6)
Whatsinanamehey · 17/05/2025 11:27

In Judges, Gideon leads a divine slaughter—120,000 dead.

As the extermination continues without a pause, it seems Israel really is aiming for that number at the least. It has been non stop since Edan Alexander was released. It's almost as if the Israeli government were angered that he was released without their involvement. They wanted to make sure that any doubt of hope was expelled for both the Palestinians and families of the hostages.

The Israeli government is angry at the possibility that Trump might actually focus on America's interests.

But also fuck Witkoff, he personally promised the mediators that food aid would enter Gaza in exchange for Edan and is currently not fulfilling that promise.

Cynically, Trump likely got Edan out to ensure that an American would not be killed during the current escalation and avoid backlash.

The Israeli captives will also be killed and starved during this phase, a decision taken by the IDF who put them last on the list of their priorities for Gaza.

Odras · 17/05/2025 13:39

@BelleHathor no I don’t think so. Israel isn’t even trying to cover up its war crimes anymore. The US may not care what really happens to the Palestinians but it isn’t keen in the optics of being involved in the genocide either.

The US are getting annoyed with Israel. Isreal is going for the escalation without backing and the US got their man out alone. If it was anyone else, it would look like Trump is aiming to reduce their reliance on Israel as an ally after what he said in Saudi ect… but Trump just says things. But Witkoff largely agrees with the Arab approach.

I’ve the impression that Witkoff is invested in getting out the hostages: he seems very focused on that in what he says and he gave the American hostage his dead son’s necklace as a gift. He’s probably getting very frustrated that the Israeli administration don’t prioritise them.

Whatsinanamehey · 17/05/2025 14:23

This is what I don’t understand. At the very least in the next hour arrangements could be made to drone deliver medicines and baby formulas that are needed. It could have been done days ago by anyone.

Whether or not Hamas shoots them in the end, or instead they starve or get killed by bombs too like civilian Palestinians, Israel will say they were shot or otherwise killed by Hamas.

What happens to the remaining hostages is not of the slightest concern for Netanyahu and the people he has done a pact with the devil with.

OhCalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 18/05/2025 14:44

If I was a betting woman my money would be on Hamas agreeing to leave Gaza soon as part of the ceasefire agreement so basically… yes.

Having caused maximum damage by starting a war they couldn’t win they now want their families to be relocated somewhere safe.
