Today’s episode of the Rest is Politics Leading is an interview with Marwan Barghouti’s son. It’s well worth a listen to those interested in alternatives to Hamas leadership.

“Netanyahu says Israel will control all of Gaza and allow in 'minimal' aid” BBC today. They are proud of their cruelty.

Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that Israel is "destroying everything that's left of the Gaza Strip" and that "the army is leaving no stone unturned. We are conquering, cleansing and staying in Gaza until Hamas is destroyed."

He also said the following things that likely can be interpreted as genocidal statements:

Smotrich: Gaza Aid Is Just Enough to Avoid ‘War Crimes’ Charges While We ‘Annihilate’ the Strip Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich gave a speech Monday defending Israel’s strategy of mass devastation in Gaza, saying humanitarian aid is only being allowed in “so the world does not stop us and accuse us of war crimes.” The goal, he insisted, is to “conquer, clear, and stay” until Gaza is dismantled beyond recognition. On aid, Smotrich said only the care minimum will be allowed: “A few bakeries distributing pitas… a daily portion of cooked food. Citizens in Gaza will get a pita and a plate of food, and that’s it. That’s exactly what we see in the videos—people standing in line, waiting for a plate of soup.” The purpose, he admitted, is not relief but optics: “It allows the world to continue providing us with international protection.” “We are annihilating everything that remains in the Strip,” he declared, “simply because it is one big city of terror.” He described the new military strategy as one of permanent occupation: “No more raids with ins and outs… we are conquering, clearing, and staying until Hamas is destroyed.” He welcomed the shift toward targeting Gaza’s civil infrastructure: “The IDF is finally conducting a campaign against the civilian rule of Hamas… eliminating ministers, officials, money changers, and figures in the economic and governmental apparatus.” Boasting of the scale of destruction, Smotrich said: “We are dismantling Gaza, leaving it in ruins with unprecedented destruction, and the world still hasn’t stopped us.” He added that, personally, he would prefer a total blockade: “Until the last of the hostages returns, we should also not let water into the Gaza Strip.” Smotrich endorsed ethnic cleansing as official policy: “The population will reach the south of the Strip, and from there, God willing, to third countries, as part of President Trump’s plan.”

The joint statement from the UK, France and Canada condemned the extremist statements from Netanyahu government. I'm guessing this is what they were referring to.

He knows how to pick his words. The other day he was going to be moving Palestinians to a 'concentrated' area of Gaza, now he is 'cleansing' the place. Baffles me that people can think the intentions of the Israeli government are defence.

They killed people in a bread queue outside the bakers. The ground is covered in blood.

Israel bombed the home of a Dr Alaa al Najjar, a paediatrician who was on duty at al Nasser hospital at the time. Nine of her children were murdered in the bombing.

How horrific! Those poor children! When things like this happen can't help but to believe that the IDF deliberately targets these families.

At root it's much simpler than all this though.

Israel are occupying a territory that doesn't belong to them.

Whatever the details of exactly who did what to whom, for what reasons (and God knows the IDF have murdered, pillaged and lied enough to make the "self defence" idea laughable to anyone but the most obstinate Zionist zealot), the moral context of what you do in defence of your country against an invader is not the same as the one of what you do while invading someone else's country.

Ofcourse, it is not a coincidence that healthcare workers, aid workers and their families are constantly being bombed. The infrastructure needed for daily life in Gaza is systematically being bombed and razed to the ground. It is all part of the ethnic cleansing efforts which the Israeli government have stated is one of their aim for this war.

We just watched this on channel 4 news. Dh is a Dr and firmly believes Israel are targeting healthcare staff and facilities. He says he can't even imagine having to cope with what the Palestinian healthcare staff are having to see and do every day, and the fear that they must have every day knowing the IDF want them dead.

I read her husband is also injured and that she has now had a nervous breakdown. I just can’t imagine how anyone could cope in that situation.

They seem to be targeting medical professionals and journalists - anyone who can heal Palestinians or bear witness to the genocide. It just shows a particular darkness in a person’s soul that they would go after people who have dedicated their lives to healing others, it is inhumane, cold and sociopathic.

I heard the doctor saying that, that is so sad. The malnutrition will effect them for the rest of their lives not to even mention the two years without schooling, living with constant stress and poor hygiene (teeth etc) and broken sleep.
If it ended tomorrow they will still feel the repercussions for their whole lives.
