I see people raising concerns about administrative detention and legal inequalities all the time perhaps you just need to broaden your media sources and circle of people you talk to?

I was talking about pro Israel posters here. They don't do that.

'Isnt great' is not a legal principle. Its what people say when they've got no option left but to move the goalposts

I never said it was. I commented on the fact that Netanyahu's name is on a list of unsavoury characters, also wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Isn't it a simple fact?

Russia invaded a sovreign i dependent coubtry unprovoked. Israel is defending itsrlf agai st a terrorist organisation that committed an illegal heinous act of war. Completely different situation. Russia sponsors terrorism and autocratic regimes all over the place, is involved in cyber attacks and meddling in foreign governments etc etc. Whatever you think of the prosecution of Israel's war with Hamas the situation is not comparable.

Ok. What about Syria?

And Belorussia? Regarding Israel I’ll point you to my reply to you from 23/12/2024 16:38. Nothing has changed since I posted that comment

Do you mean Belarus? I don't know anything about it other than that it is a highly authoritarian regime, doesnt have free elections and Lukashenka cosies up to some of the worst people in geo politics, including Putin & Assad and has a bit of a penchant for antisemitism.

Desperate? No. Why would I be?

Because you've resorted to smugly having a go at people for alleged grammatical mistakes. Again.

There are multiple errors and typos on this thread and many others. Yet you only ever seem to go after particular posters.

It's an interesting one. The standards people apply to how Israel are treated vs the way Israel treat others.

Men with warrants out for their arrest for crimes against humanity are innocent until proven guilty but I've never seen that person speaking out about the torture and abuse of Palestinians in administrative detention and how unfair it is that Israel can hold them for as long they like with no charges.

Better by discriminating against people because of their nationality. Ew.

Ew when it's some Israeli sports people but the people living under apartheid don't get so much as an acknowledgement from posters who are pro Israel.

Deep down you know what Israel has been doing to Palestinians is appalling, you can apply the morality when something less bad but in the same realm happens to Israelis but can't quite connect the dots yet when it comes to why people are outraged about how Palestinians have been treated.

Congratulations, you must be psychic.

yes sorry. It’s also banned from international competitions. It’s not the only authoritarian country that takes part on competitions but it was banned at the same time as Russia. So, isn’t it discrimination against its citizens? They were banned from olympics 2024 because they were involved in a war. Shouldn’t other countries involved in wars be banned? Or is it only discrimination if it affects “western” countries ?

I have no idea. As I said I don't know anything about it. Sanctions are a perfectly normal thing for governments and major organisations like, say, the IOC to bring in if countries dont comply with their rules and values. Belarus strikes me as the kind of place that might apply to especially if its in concert with Russia. You'd have to look up the terms on which they are banned. What you can't do is discriminate on a whim uncover cover of 'security concerns' or some other old chestnut without due process either in terms of the laws of a country, or the procedures of the relevant organisation.

This thread is beyond silly now.

Perception and reality are two different things.
What you wrote was grammatically incorrect, in standard English.

They were both banned for the Ukraine war a country Russia is occupying. So their citizens are being discriminated as they’re not the government and the ones taking part in this war.

israel is not banned. Yet less than a year ago an international court declared them to be occupying a country they’re currently at war with. Should their citizens be discriminated as well?

in 2022. Players from players from Russia were banned taking part in Wimbledon. These lawyers that have raised that discrimination was being done against Israeli citizens because they weren’t allowed to play this week. Where were they? Why didn’t they raise it as well?

it’s not beyond silly. It’s what many of us keep saying. If there are laws then these need to be applied to everyone. Discrimination is when you apply these rules to some but not others.

SPOT ON

@BoydTheApe I think we are being mixed up :) unless you're prone to being lectured about colloquialisms in your native tongue as well?

What did I say that is grammatically incorrect on standard English and why is it in any way relevant or useful to point it out, except to make you feel superior?

And I'm referring to the posters you have condescending corrected. Once on thie previous page, the other I believe has been deleted. I just find it interesting that you ignore the majority of perfectly innocent minor mistakes from the majority of posters but there's a couple that'll for some reason give you some kind of sense of satisfaction to point out.

You appear to assume a lot about me. None of it is correct as assumptions, not surprisingly, tend to be 99% of the times wrong.
I am also actually trying really hard not to point out the glaring grammatical mistakes in your last post. Have I redeemed myself?

If not pointing out insignificant grammar mistake is difficult for you then reading mumsnet must be hell for your superior mind. Maybe you should take a break.

Why do you only point out the mistakes of people who disagree with you?

And I'm still not sure what mistake I made that your referring to in your previous post.

Thank you for the compliment and the good advice.
As oscar Wilde once said. "The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself." I can't argue with that.

OpheliaWasntMad · 03/01/2025 20:46

There are so many serious issues to be concerned about that I feel this discussion about a bowls tournament in Norfolk is incredibly silly - it smacks more of showing off of legal knowledge and prejudice against Israelis than anything else.
Totally counterproductive.

'The worst people are those who judge the fault of others, but are blind to their own'.

How is it prejudice when our own country has banned citizens from other countries taking part in events in the UK but they can’t ban now some citizens from another country because of the Equality Act some posters have mentioned?

to me it proofs how hypocrite governments and those making the laws are. We are not all the same against the law.

I agree with you at something, there are some serious things happening at the moment in the world. And our government should stop supporting them.

So talk to us about 1947 or perhaps the occupied territories since 1967, or maybe leap frogging of the buffet zones?
