Because the Israeli administration has consistently and continuously acted in an abysmal way both in Gaza and the West Bank. And as an ally of Europe and the US I can only hope that there will be continual pressure them to do better.

Agree with this.

We should all be grateful there’s a ceasefire @Stripes56 because if the ceasefire fails then many more Palestinian civilians in Gaza will get killed in what will inevitably follow.

Personally I am grateful for the ceasefire (even grateful to Trump and I’m no supporter of his generally).

Yes - grateful for the reduced killing of civilians - but not grateful that it continues at all. We shouldn’t turn a blind eye to it nor minimise it. Can you imagine the uproar if 2 unarmed children were killed by targeted drone fire by soldiers of any other democratic country?

A ceasefire that isn’t one in practice shouldn’t then be used as an excuse to prevent criticism of what’s happening in Gaza.

DOHA — Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Thani says Doha doesn’t consider the current situation in Gaza to be a ceasefire, arguing that this would require an Israeli withdrawal from the entirety of the Strip.
“We are at the critical moment,” Al Thani says about the Gaza peace process during a panel discussion at the Doha Forum.
“What we have just done is a pause. We cannot consider it yet a ceasefire. A ceasefire cannot be completed unless there is a full withdrawal of the Israeli forces, there is stability back in Gaza [and] people can go in and out, which is not the case today,” he maintains.

By soldiers of a democratic country - isn't it obvious pp is referring to Israel?

Although Israel isn't fully a democratic country either. They are run by wanted war criminals and are heavily influenced by settler terrorists who run rampage and attack Palestinians on a daily basis.

People have become almost immune to the death of Palestinians so the deaths of over 350 Palestinians killed the ceasefire, including many children, should not really matter? Children continue to be killed by drones. But we should be grateful they are dying in fewer numbers?

I can't find up to date numbers but as of the 27th of November the killing of 67 Palestinian children is a 'ceasefire'. It really makes clear the value some people put on Palestinian lives. That is more than the total Israeli children killed during 'war time'.

Nothing has been learnt from this conflict Palestinians being killed is 'peace' just like before Oct 7 when we are told that there was a ceasefire but 100s of Palestinians had been killed. It was set to be the deadliest year for Palestinian children in years but that is what 'ceasefire' looks like to some people, just Palestinians dying in large numbers.

That’s what I was thinking - killing of Palestinians reduced to background levels 😳

I think people do have to ask the question when does the witch hunt against Israel stop and what is the bed goal. The problem is to fully satisfy the baying mob that wish Israel banished from the international community you would have to delegitamise Israel as a state as this is the only thing that will appease the hard core pro Palestinian movement.

This is no way to achieve a peace in the region and will only drive Israel into more hard line positions as it feels the betrayal of some of its partners. Peace in Northern Ireland was never going to be achieved by handing the territory to Ireland. With a significant proportion of the world's Jews living in Israel the policies of ostracism can only lead to an extension of demonsing Jews, the most oppressed international community in history who have faced existential destruction.

No other country in conflict (apart from Russia) has faced such approbation and we have to ask ourselves how we got ourselves into a position where we are effectively rewarding Hamas the perpetrators of October 7th with the reward of Israeli ostracism.

The cessation of hostilities can be seen now to have not ended the continuous juggernaut of Jew hate that has been launched and I think it is incumbent on Western governments to distance themselves from those that wish Israel's fall by continuing links at a number of levels with Israel and indeed expanding them.

As we see gulf states host major F1 events we see the potential result of global co operation and indeed wouldn't it be good to see Israel host major events as well as the oil rich Arab states?..To not do so would indicate a systemic anti Semitic bias the world should be ashamed of.

Copy and paste is such a bad look.

Agree. There were pics of Pip Matthews at F1 in Abu Dhabi yesterday, not a peep about UAE role in Sudan. Qatar is a cesspit for human rights but FIFA was bought. A thread on here about hard-line Israelis wanting to introduce the death penalty for terrorists but no mention of so many other middle eastern governments that have it - including of course, the Palestinian authority and Hamas in Gaza, (I've seen their summary executions of Gazans defended on here).
I will never forget the celebrations I saw from UK citizens after 7/10, those people don't want peace, they want the destruction of Israel.

You'd never know, next thing that will be mentioned will be "voluntary migration" for their own good obviously because who wouldn't prefer to be an impoverished refugee in a country that doesn't want them .(There's a script it's been repeated numerous times)

When they end their illegal occupation and apartheid and hopefully with that end their stealing and murdering?

I think it is interesting that your are keen to align Israel with non democratic states in the Middle East. I thought Israel was a liberal democracy? I thought it would do better. But you are content for it to meet the low bar that Qatar, UAE or Saudi reach on human rights?

Is that what you are saying ?

I'm saying that those who celebrated what happened to Israelis on 7/10 did so because they want the destruction of Israel and it's people. Being better than that is a low bar but some seem to limbo under it.
