Im going to do fundraising at my church .
If we all do our bit ..
We can never “fix it” but we can help ( in a small way) to make a future seem possible for a child who has lost everything.

I apologise if that sounds glib and patronising.
I actually feel quite depressed and despairing when I read the reports and watch the news . There are individuals ( on both sides) that I hold in my heart.
Im sure it’s the same for everyone on this board .

That’s a great idea. I think it can be a good approach to choose one small charity that people can really connect with. It can make it feel less overwhelming and also more humanised. You can form personal connections with the people you are helping.

For instance, there is an amazing charity based in the Bethlehem (West Bank) refugee camp Aida, that supports disabled children and their carers through selling handicrafts made by the women and also through cookery workshops. These can be online. They also used to do home stays in the camp but obviously can’t right now. https://noorweg.wordpress.com/

Another really great thing to do is sponsor olive trees to be grown from seedlings and given to West Bank farmers who have had their olive trees destroyed by settlers. Zaytoun do it and others too. https://zaytoun.uk/plant-a-tree/

I think just showing people that the world cares goes such a long way.

feel free to DM me if you’d like any more info on these above ❤️

Thank you - that’s really helpful

It doesn’t sound glib

It’s a bit sad that this thread goes very quiet when the talk is actually about how to do something to help Palestinians. People on here are so quick to respond if you don’t like a slogan on a t shirt.

Have you considered that people by now might have their ways of supporting Palestinians or that there are threads where this information has been shared already?

I think the idea of a small charity is a lovely one - you could build a connection between the charity and your church?

Alternatively, healthcare charities like Medical Aid for Palestine or appeals by MSF or the ICRC can be a way of working with recognised names and connecting with messages of healing.

There are also projects working to support children and vulnerable people who got out to Egypt and other places.

There has been many discussions on how to help before and many have been doing things for quite a while. Not sure what you wanted us to come on and say to you? Yes well done delighted you have decided to look at ways to support Palestinians. I don't think you needed to turn something positive that you are doing into a dig at other posters but each to their own I guess.

IAmAHomewardBounder · 31/12/2024 09:31

Going back to Eurovision, I still think Slovenia should withdraw if she feels that strongly on the matter. If Israel (Russia too but I think that ship has sailed) qualifies then good luck to them and all countries participating. I'm just looking forward to hearing all the songs; not everything has to be politicised.

mollyfolk · 31/12/2024 10:34

Yes I don't see that you were asking a question or calling out for suggestions.

But if you were I have noticed that most fundraisers here are raising money for Medical aid for Palestinian. Including a coalition of Irish doctors so I am assuming they see that they are doing effective work. And it's a well established charity.

All my cousins Christmas gifts this year were produced in Palestine - I thought that was very practical way to support. Zaytoun brand that another poster mentioned also.

SharonEllis · 31/12/2024 11:26

@OpheliaWasntMad I know people connected to the Israeli charity Women Wage Peace which brings together Israeli & Palestinian women, and their sister Palestinian charity Women of the Sun who work to improve the dire representation of women in Palestinian politics & civic life, as well as peace work.

I definitely wasn’t looking for a “well done you” and I’m sorry if that’s how it came across @Dulra
I felt bleak and negative last night and was looking for some positivity. I know it’s difficult to be positive about this situation but it doesn’t help Palestinians if posters on mumsnet just bitch at each other .
I know @Scirocco has been very active in positive ways and promoted ways to help and I’m sure others have too.
Happy New Year to you all.
Let’s hope 2025 is a better year.

I didn't think that's what you were expecting. I had read your posts but not being in UK felt I'd no advice to offer. It's just a shame you had to have a pop at people.

I'm in Ireland where there is quite a lot of opportunities to fundraise and contribute to campaigns so I guess it would not occur to me to query things here.

This looks brilliant but it hasn’t been updated for a while. Are they still active I wonder?

Yes they are. All their income streams were gone after October 7 but they are still going

The Independent is printing old news. The invitation has already been restored to the Israeli players.
