Did you "paddystinians" or whatever TF you call yourselves know that some of the hostages were forced to perform sex acts with each other, were burned with irons, tortured and sexually abused by their Hamas captors. It's all detailed by the Israeli news.

I'm poking fun at you. But let me clear i think this is completely wrong and horrific. The hostages are victims in all of this too. You won't find any argument from me there.

stomachamelon · 29/12/2024 22:19

@Dulra I completely agree with that statement.

Agree with @mollyfolk
The hostages have suffered for over a year. The trauma of their circumstances is unimaginable. I’m so very sorry for the pain and anguish these news reports must cause .

Jesus was both.

My goodness if Netflix say Jesus was a Palestinian then it must be true.

Please do some proper research about the Middle East BC (that's means Before Christ) and read a bloody book before making such embarrassing remarks.

God that is tasteless.
There’s always someone willing to make money out of tragedy

Its gross, but does demonstrate how there has always been a fashion dimension to being pro-palestine. As it always has done with keffiyehs as a fashion statement.

Another one that has missed the point entirely I will repeat

Paddystinian is tasteless and was coined to mock Irish people. The phrase has been claimed and being used positively to raise money for Palestine. I don't find that tasteless I find the original word to mock Irish people extremely tasteless and gross.

Not worth arguing about.
It’s raising money for medical aid for Palestinians so I guess it doesn’t matter if people find the t shirts cringey and performative .

mollyfolk · 30/12/2024 11:05

I think jt's hilarious. Both as an "insult" and the fact that it's been turned around.

Also love that it's been done without insulting anyone's nationality.

Well there’s not much that’s hilarious about this conflict so for me it’s pretty jarring
But we are all different

BadgerInDungarees · 30/12/2024 11:30

@OpheliaWasntMad Do you find it 'jarring' that Israelis and their friends coined this phrase as a racial attack on Irish people in the first place? I haven't seen you comment on the actual people that coined the slur in the first place only criticise how the victims of the racial attack chose to react to it.

So you're bothered by the T-shirt but not about the original derogatory insult. Got it

Edited

Exactly. Chances are no one will even wear the tshirt just a tool to use to raise money for charity and take ownership of the slur

Dulra · 30/12/2024 11:40

And just to add for those that may not be aware the term "Paddy" was originally a derogatory slur for Irish people. It is now often viewed as lighthearted but we are fully aware when it's use is intended to offend.

Dont twist what I said.
Im allowed to find the t shirt in bad taste.
People don’t have to agree over everything
I don’t think this thread should become about how offensive the term Paddy is .
That’s not what the thread is about.
I don’t like the tasteless cringey nature of this T-shirt. I don’t think the term Paddyistilian is a term anyone much had heard of so there was absolutely no need to “reclaim “ the term and popularise it.
But - if you want to do that - go ahead .

Given that it was used alongside the same type of dehumanising language and imagery used by the British during their colonisation it was pretty clear exactly what Israelis and their friends were doing when they coined the phrase.

Those Israelis….

stomachamelon · 30/12/2024 12:06

what Israelis and their friends were doing

@BadgerInDungarees you are doing exactly the same thing. Do you know many Israelis?

I know that the people who were using dehumanising language and imagery on twitter and reddit towards Irish people declared themselves to be Israeli or pro Israel. I'm sure it isn't every Israeli and every person who is pro Israel who feels that way but certainly there were quite a few who loudly came out of the woodwork.

BadgerInDungarees · 30/12/2024 12:19

What am I supposed to call them?

mollyfolk · 30/12/2024 12:42

Can we please remember that the only reason this came up is because someone came on the thread to use the term as a slur to insult the Irish people here.

Which I personally have taken in good humour.

Now the last time I checked calling people Israeli was not a slur. So stop will the holier than thou attitude.

Exactly. How hypocritical to rebuke those who have reclaimed the slur and changed it into something positive, but not those who are insulting Irish posters with that same slur.

I didn't I was highlighting what you didn't say

Of course you are, I was merely pointing out that the slur was the catalyst for the tshirt without the slur there would not have been a T-shirt so not sure why you had no issue with those that coined it in the first place.

I don’t think this thread should become about how offensive the term Paddy is .

Heaven forbid 🙄that's not what I was doing I was pointing out to posters that may not know what would be offensive about "Paddy"stine. Don't worry I'll get back in my box now.....

I don’t think the term Paddyistilian is a term anyone much had heard of so there was absolutely no need to “reclaim “ the term and popularise it.
It was an offensive term used to insult Irish people, it wasn't an Irish term, those that it was meant to offend are perfectly entitled to claim it, not "reclaim" it, it was never our phrase to begin with. It is a method of taking it from those that use it to offend so it is worthless to them.

Martymcfly24 · 30/12/2024 12:56

The WHO have demanded the release today of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya director of the Kamal Adwan hospital who is allegedly being held in the notorious detention center Sde Teiman. (One known for torture)

And I have preordered a "cringy" t-shirt from Hairy Baby.

You are twisting my meaning by implying I’m not bothered by derogatory insults against the Irish .

My point was simply that I don’t find the T-shirt funny or in good taste .
That’s all.
you’re all entitled to wear it and enjoy it and I’m entitled to my view
End of

His last image of him walking towards the IDF tanks amongst rubble and destruction in his white doctors coat is so tragic. He has been calling for international help to stop the barbaric attacks on the hospital for months. The last remaining hospital in the north and the final nail in the coffin of ethnic cleansing the north of Gaza.
