You yourself said Starmer & Corbyn are very different but were in the same party. That's because the Labour Party is a coalition of different views even if there are some shared values, often referred to as 'a broad church'. If we had PR the different factions would split into different parties because they would have a chance of being elected. Thats why we have had, mostly, either Labour or Tory governments.

Yes Labour or Tory might have differing views within the party and of course different types of leaders can be popular at different times but ultimately in parliament they've to vote with the party whip which can limit their influence.

I think @SharonEllis is referring to the former. Which I don’t agree with but does sound more like a logical argument than the quote.
