To be properly crying because of what I just saw on the news. *Warning graphic description*

I often have the news on in the background whilst I work from home. Background noise and it's good to stay up to date with current affairs. Big mistake today.

Footage of women and children bleeding out in Gaza and a terrified and panic stricken medic (the only one alive to help!) not knowing who to help, passed a child screaming to help her sister who was dying, dead children in pools of blood, a woman propped up, dead or nearly dead with her leg blown off whilst many many explosions going off in the background. Blood everywhere and screams of dying women and children. I had to turn it off as I was in floods of tears. What in the actual f*ck. How is this still going on? How is this being allowed to happen? How are we and other nations funding this? Where is the humanity? This is obliteration. These are innocent people, not Hammas. The Israeli government need to answer for these atrocities and they need to do it now before any more die. These are war crimes. There is no other word for it. What an earth can we do to stop this!! INNOCENT PEOPLE, INNOCENT CHILDREN ARE DYING IN HUGE NUMBERS.

Do other global conflicts upset you, or just this one?

What’s the point of your cynicism here? Just go away.

I heard a UK doctor working for a charity she set up for Gaza talking on R4 a few days ago. Her report was very moving. The name of her charity is UK-Med. I looked for them online and found them. It’s very easy to make a donation.

Thank you for sharing that, I found them too from your post and i will share the charity with friends and family.

What is your problem? Posters have come on here to share and show their sadness, grief, concern, support for Palestinians and this is what you've come on here to say? If we came on and asked the same question on any of the Pro Israel threads I'm sure you ( in general terms) would have something to say about it and the lack of empathy towards people who are suffering dearly in the most horrific of ways.

StepawayfromtheLindors · 22/10/2024 15:59

Remembrance Day is looming in the UK. What an utter load of hypocritical bullshit it’s become - solemn parades, the wreaths, “never again”, “we mustn’t let humanity sink into the abyss of war ever again” blah blah BUT IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN, RIGHT NOW, under our noses. And our governments are supplying the weapons 😭

DancefloorAcrobatics · 22/10/2024 16:03

Yep, Israel has had their eyes on the Gaza strip for a long time.

The whole area is a coastal aquifer. That's why Israel has put a stop to the building of Wells in Gaza. Without water, they can't survive, can't irrigate crops ....

If you look at maps of land that was awarded to Israel in the Balfor declaration and what they have conquered/ annexed or whatever since, you'll see a pattern emerging. Or just follow the water sources!

All of them. I mentioned Ukraine earlier although we didn't see the amounts of children dying in that war as we are seeing in Gaza and Lebanon. Not justifying either. And for the record I've already said that and the reasons why this one has particularly captured attention: actual footage of women and children dying, murdered by a country supposed to be part of the West, supposed to be one of us. Now let me guess, you want to try to label me as anti jew because I have raised my distaste for seeing women and children being murdered? For what it's worth I know Jewish people who do not support what is going on in Gaza currently.... Does that make them antisemitic even though they are Jewish? I highly doubt it. I do not want to see women and children of the human race suffering and being brutally murdered. The footage of this happening has brought it home. It cannot be denied. Do you believe it's ok for them to die like this, how do you justifying their deaths? For the record when I learned of the baby and 4 year old Israeli Hamas hostages I was upset then too. Just as I was for the twins killed when their births were being registered in Gaza by an Israeli air strike. These are just the ones which stick in my mind. Cease fire. Cease fire needed. Only one man can call that right now.

You think this is all about water? I thought this was about revenge and lately occupation?

Sorry was meant to quote OP for my water reply.

There was an article doing the rounds yesterday about the poor IDF soldiers suffering PTSD from the terrible experience of driving bulldozers over hundreds of dead and wounded civilians. Apparently "everything squirts out". One of the poor lambs even said he can't eat meat any more 😢

Anyone still making excuses for Israel has something fundamentally missing, imo.

Dabralor · 22/10/2024 16:11

Who on earth are the sizeable number of people who have voted yabu for this?!

Its horror on a completely inhuman scale. And it's also horrifying how we are fed this footage and expected to sit here and watch it, unable to help in any tangible way.

I don't know what the answer is and my heartbreaks for all those poor people.

Cry me a river... a shameful piece of journalism by CNN and a poor attempt at painting the aggressor in this case as the victim. Who are we supposed to be feeling sorry for? The soldier who bulldozed people to death or the people who were murdered in such a gruesome manner?

What even possessed the soldier to disclose that this is one of the barbaric ways they kill people in Gaza in the name of self defense.

sprigatito · 22/10/2024 16:13

Quite. The article itself reduces those dead and wounded civilians to a pile of meat. I couldn't quite believe what I was reading.

Well yes I see what you are saying....it's started to feel quite sickly when British and American companies are making huge amounts of money for shareholders from supplying weapons, probably the same ones which have caused these very women and children to die a slow agonizing death. Indirectly we have blood on our hands. Fine as long as it's not in our own back gardens though isn't it! Easy to dismiss when it is other people with different coloured skin in a far off country. I think we should keep remembrance day however.. but should change the focus a bit and not glorify war but look to spending some of the funds from the solemn parades towards proactively preventing war and unrest in other countries. Let the legacy of those who died to be to prevent another world war. Because let's face it..these far off wars could easily spill over into a world war, all it takes now is one push of a red button.

OP it's just all so heartbreaking. It's a struggle everyday to muster the courage to get on with our lives whilst all this is happening.

Tears are natural, I don't blame you. God knows how many times I've sat down at the end of the day and cried. It doesn't bear thinking about when you think what if it were my kids, my family and I know there are some posters on here who have friends and family there. I'm so sorry for what you're going through, it's not easy I know.

Mischance · 22/10/2024 16:38

Honestly - just don't watch it. I don't. I catch the headlines on my phone in the mornings, clock that the conflict is still going on and then move on with the rest of my day. I do not look at the details nor watch any footage. There truly is no point - there is nothing whatsoever that you or I or anyone else can do. It is a total mess, but out of our control. We have to set boundaries and recognize that getting steeped in this and becoming upset does no good and does not increase the sum of human happiness on iota.

Cattenberg · 22/10/2024 16:40

Would any of the 36 people who voted YABU like to explain why?

So turn the other way. We should have done the same for nazi Germany? Our governments are funding this shit, so yes, we are involved.

I doubt there's ever been a period in history where there hasn't been a war of some sort going on.

Scirocco · 22/10/2024 17:03

Perhaps a question some people should ask themselves is why they care about other people in conflict and disaster zones, but not Palestinians or Lebanese people...

Indeed. If people aren't interested in showing empathy, or if people feel that they can't cope with reading a thread, or whatever, they can simply choose not to read a thread or not to comment. Choosing to post things intended to hurt, derail or spread misinformation is a choice people are making.

Not all wars result in genocide though, and our Government has been supporting what Israel has been doing.
