To be properly crying because of what I just saw on the news. *Warning graphic description*

I often have the news on in the background whilst I work from home. Background noise and it's good to stay up to date with current affairs. Big mistake today.

Footage of women and children bleeding out in Gaza and a terrified and panic stricken medic (the only one alive to help!) not knowing who to help, passed a child screaming to help her sister who was dying, dead children in pools of blood, a woman propped up, dead or nearly dead with her leg blown off whilst many many explosions going off in the background. Blood everywhere and screams of dying women and children. I had to turn it off as I was in floods of tears. What in the actual f*ck. How is this still going on? How is this being allowed to happen? How are we and other nations funding this? Where is the humanity? This is obliteration. These are innocent people, not Hammas. The Israeli government need to answer for these atrocities and they need to do it now before any more die. These are war crimes. There is no other word for it. What an earth can we do to stop this!! INNOCENT PEOPLE, INNOCENT CHILDREN ARE DYING IN HUGE NUMBERS.

The western media is a disgrace as is our fickle 24hr news cycle - I don't know why the world is not up in arms about this but its no different to the awful things going on in places like Syria and Ukraine we just keep looking away.

MissyB1 · 22/10/2024 14:32

What I can't get my head around is how the whole world watches and chooses to do nothing. Israel are literally given a free pass to commit a genocide! I am particularly disgusted by America who bear massive responsibility for encouraging this. And our own Government have been pathetically weak, too scared of losing voters, too scared of upsetting America, cowardly and selfish.

Namechangey23 · 22/10/2024 14:35

MorrisZapp · 22/10/2024 14:10

I saw it and it was utterly horrific. What a helpless feeling, to know this is reality and not be able to reach out and help.

I think you nailed it. It was the sheer futility of her situation. Here were women and children bleeding to death on the rubble floor. Each one should be in a hospital surrounded by a team of medical professionals stemming the bleeding and ready to resuscitate if this were the UK. She was also terrified for her own safety no doubt with all the mortars still going off. Hats off to anyone who goes into these situations to help, I could not keep my head.

It's absolutely barbaric that anyone let alone children could die this slow, agonizing and terrifying death watching their friends and family members die around them. How anyone could say the end justifies the means is a mystery, each of these people had a family, a life. Some of them had barely begun to live. They were not just numbers chalked up to collateral damage. The international governments should be called upon to shame and sanction the Israeli government because there is no doubt these are war crimes.

Yes me too. How can this be allowed? The UN has a warrant for the Israeli prime ministers arrest. I think our own government is probably now so terrified of being labeled antisemitic due to the Jeremy corbyn era so won't do anything. I also don't doubt that in the future a whole generation of terrorists will be created who will be targeting the countries who sat back and let this happened or worse helped provide the ammunition and weapons. That's us and America. So eventually it will affect us all, that's when people will take notice and say whyyy whyy us?! This, here and now is why.

What more proof do governments around the world need to act? To not do anything at all is still to make a choice. Actions speak far louder than words and our country's actions so far are condoning this, in spite of any murmurings of discontent.

Horrific. This should not happen and certain countries should have stepped in a long time ago. Sadly the likes of America and Britain rather make some qick money then care about the plight of the Palestinians.
And yes, the October the 7th attacs were horrific as well, but nothing does justify what is going on 12 months down the line.
IIsrael can only think of one 5 letter word: WATER.
(Honestly, once you look at Israels water sources and the geography of the region, it becomes very clear. And if you look at other wars Israel has fought over the years, you'll see a pattern....)

Ohthatsabitshit · 22/10/2024 14:53

If this is what Israel is, if this is who they want to be, how can there ever be peace?

stanleypops66 · 22/10/2024 14:56

It's absolutely horrific. I haven't seen the coverage you wrote about but I've seen lots of other footage. Those poor people. I feel so helpless. Those with the power and influence to help the Palestinians are doing nothing. Trying to save their own skin. I don't see anything changing soon.

MissyB1 · 22/10/2024 14:57

@Namechangey23 you could well be right about future terror attacks, which will hurt the ordinary citizens on the street not our pathetic politicians who did nothing to stop this horror. How either Israel or other Countries that have been complicit can possibly think this is all going to pan out well in the future is completely beyond me.

MissyPants · 22/10/2024 14:59

It is incredibly sad indeed and I would not want to see that.
But regarding the reference to Liam Payne, of course the media are going to put the spotlight on this case, it's a rare event. They aren't going to focus their attention on something that has been on going for some time, that most people know about. It's just what the media does, they are doing their job and it's just how they work.
You can blame the media for all the reactions regarding Liam Payne, It's the coverage which has sent everyone into feelings of grief over it. How can you expect the same reaction about Gaza if isn't plastered all over the internet every single day 24/7? It is to some extent, in the background, but not anywhere near as much as this "breaking story". Liams funeral will be massive, but I bet we won't see any funerals of the children being buried.
I don't think referring to him as a junkie and whatever else is appropriate tho. He has family out there.
I feel sorry for everyone in Gaza, it makes you feel incredibly helpless.

What's a Zionist business?

Gaimbin · 22/10/2024 15:04

What's a Zionist business?

Ones that support Israel. A lot of them are Indian owned.

Growlybear83 · 22/10/2024 15:07

I can't find words to describe how I feel any more, or the shame that I feel being a national of a country that is sitting back and letting this happen, not to mention what is happening in Lebanon and the other countries which have also been attacked over the last year. My son in law is a Palestinian with Jordanian citizenship and like so many other people has lost many members of his family since this started. I don't know what to say to him any more. I don't condone what was done last October for a minute, but Israel's revenge and the western support for this is unbelievably out of proportion.

Gaimbin · 22/10/2024 15:12

How would you know? Do you enquire of every business you encounter whether they're Zionist or Indian owned? Bizarre.

Gaimbin · 22/10/2024 15:21

What if they're not Zionist owned but potentially might have someone who's a Zionist working for them? Do you need to boycott those too just to be on the safe side?

You think this is all about water? I thought this was about revenge and lately occupation?

I think it’s reasonable to not spend your money on Israeli produce or products. There are other places to buy things.

Revolting statement. You should be ashamed of yourself.

OP I also saw that clip on the news and it was on a whole new level of horror. But I guess we need to see it in a way, we are bearing witness to a genocide. I have written to my MP a total of 3 times on this matter already. I will write again today.

I also saw the report on the festival /conference help to discuss new Israeli homes in Gaza. It was chilling, they sang and danced as they watched Gaza burn. I felt sick.

I saw the report you refer to in your second paragraph and I felt sick with horror. It was on Channel Four news a couple of nights ago, by the reporter with the Irish name - Padraig?? He was clearly very shaken himself by the contrast of the smoke rising over Gaza in the distance, and the Israeli settlers near him who were having some kind of party. He said they were planning on building new homes for themselves in Gaza. He called it an Israeli Glastonbury or similar - clearly tongue in cheek.

YANBU, OP. I’ve cried too and so have my DC. We’re witnessing a genocide and can do nothing to prevent it. There are no words for the horror of it. Those poor poor wee babies and children ❤️❤️❤️

Lampzade · 22/10/2024 15:44

Heartbreaking
I no longer watch the news because of the type of images the Op has described
I feel so helpless

PurpleChrayn · 22/10/2024 15:44

This is individual choice, but I suspect there is a distinction to be made between Israeli business and those linked or sympathetic to the government and regime. I actually think blockading the arms factories making the arms to send to Israel night send a clearer message to the government. Protests don't seem to work these days!

Interestingly some of us are quite capable of caring about more than one thing at a time, are you? If OP had started a thread about the situation in the Sudan would you have asked the same question? Doubt it.....

Scirocco · 22/10/2024 13:40

Thank you, OP, for seeing this and knowing that it's wrong. Thank you for seeing Palestinians as people.

Take care of yourself too - it's so hard sometimes when there's so much horror in the world. There are lots of ways, big and small, that we can all try to make a difference: donating to charities (money, items for selling or time), signing petitions, adjusting our own spending behaviours, a kind word to a person struggling with their grief... It may feel small, but when thousands of people all do small things, they add up.

I heard a UK doctor working for a charity she set up for Gaza talking on R4 a few days ago. Her report was very moving. The name of her charity is UK-Med. I looked for them online and found them. It’s very easy to make a donation.

Can you not even muster an ounce of sympathy? Are you not even moved a little by the horrendous scenes?
