Conflict in the Middle East

To be properly crying because of what I just saw on the news. *Warning graphic description*

I often have the news on in the background whilst I work from home. Background noise and it's good to stay up to date with current affairs. Big mistake today.

Footage of women and children bleeding out in Gaza and a terrified and panic stricken medic (the only one alive to help!) not knowing who to help, passed a child screaming to help her sister who was dying, dead children in pools of blood, a woman propped up, dead or nearly dead with her leg blown off whilst many many explosions going off in the background. Blood everywhere and screams of dying women and children. I had to turn it off as I was in floods of tears. What in the actual f*ck. How is this still going on? How is this being allowed to happen? How are we and other nations funding this? Where is the humanity? This is obliteration. These are innocent people, not Hammas. The Israeli government need to answer for these atrocities and they need to do it now before any more die. These are war crimes. There is no other word for it. What an earth can we do to stop this!! INNOCENT PEOPLE, INNOCENT CHILDREN ARE DYING IN HUGE NUMBERS.

Perhaps I am being unreasonable after all. But I feel genuine grief seeing other people and especially children suffer like this. I cannot make any sense of it at all. And yes I felt like this for Ukraine war and others etc but the scale of this and the fact it's being conducted by a country supposed to be part of the West, one of us, somehow makes it worse. And the kind of footage which comes out of these so called wars now with social media and so many people having a smart phone to hand brings it very shockingly home. Seeing is believing. Awful to say, but it's too easy to ignore until you see something like this.

I agree with you. According to c4 news Israeli settlers had a 2 day event to draw up plans for their new homes in the Gaza Strip. Whilst a child was bombed and as people ran to help they were bombed

What's happening in northern Gaza at the moment is horrifying. Absolutely dreadful and there's no excuse. The story you're telling sounds absolutely awful, and I'm so sorry that you've been upset by it. The scenes we've seen in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon in the last year are extremely upsetting, there's no doubt about it.

How disturbing that 35% of people so far said that you are being unreasonable.

Scirocco · 22/10/2024 13:40

Thank you, OP, for seeing this and knowing that it's wrong. Thank you for seeing Palestinians as people.

Take care of yourself too - it's so hard sometimes when there's so much horror in the world. There are lots of ways, big and small, that we can all try to make a difference: donating to charities (money, items for selling or time), signing petitions, adjusting our own spending behaviours, a kind word to a person struggling with their grief... It may feel small, but when thousands of people all do small things, they add up.

If that's true, it's inhuman.

OP I also saw that clip on the news and it was on a whole new level of horror. But I guess we need to see it in a way, we are bearing witness to a genocide. I have written to my MP a total of 3 times on this matter already. I will write again today.

I also saw the report on the festival /conference help to discuss new Israeli homes in Gaza. It was chilling, they sang and danced as they watched Gaza burn. I felt sick.

I totally agree! thr news feeds are warped. It's astonishing how Liam Paynes life is being grieved by more people and talked about more than the lives of hundreds, thousands of women children who are being murdered. It's like people have decided if I don't know the person or have a connection to them they don't matter to me. I swear empathy is missing from our society. Don't get me wrong, it's very sad a boy has lost his father and he got so high on drugs he's (probably) accidently killed himself. But he is one grown man and this was the result of his decisions. These were children in the video, nothing to do with politics and it was not their decision or fault to be brutally killed and maimed. Same goes for the women really.

If that's true, it's inhuman.

It's a tactic that's been used on multiple occasions. Shoot someone, then shoot anyone that tries to help. It lures in people who might want to help others, and spreads more trauma to people witnessing it - for example, how does a mother cope with one son lying gravely wounded, another shot dead trying to get to him... does she let other loved ones try to get to him, knowing what will happen to them but at the same time knowing her son's only chance is for someone to go and get him? And how do people cope when animals start to eat the bodies of their loved ones, that they cannot go and bring back for burial? It's cruel, inhuman.

Isn't it? How on earth do we all get on with our daily lives when they are losing theirs and no one will help. I just imagine if it was us, my children, my family, our country. Because we are all one race, we are all people. It could have been us.

Everyone who voted yabu must be a bot surely and Mumsnet should ban them. Real people can’t think you are being unreasonable. It’s incomprehensible in its awfulness.

You saw it too! Yes a whole whole whole new level of horror, death and deliberate destruction. I just was not prepared for what I was about to see, I wasn't really paying attention if they had given a warning until I heard the emotion in the medics voice and looked up, it was raw and unnerving, I've never heard anyone sound like that as I've never been in a warzone. Sheer terror and horror. But I'm glad they didn't totally sensor it. People need to see. I did not see the report on the festival. Wasn't it supposed to be something to do with celebrating killing the Hamas leader? If they've confirmed he is dead why are they still carrying on their campaign...unless they want all Gazan's dead ..? that would be genocide would it not?

I don't think I need to hear any more graphic depictions today @Scirocco. But as a mother of two, I just can't contemplate the cruelness and the absolute lack of humanity needed to deliberately kill children. It's pure pure evil in it's uncovered form. How anyone can believe in any god or religion when this can happen too I don't understand. If there was a god innocent children could not be brutally murdered in this fashion by psychotic politicians with their fingers on the trigger. What happens in the aftermath? Israel occupy Gaza. Where do the survivors go? What if creating a group of angry and traumatized people with a hatred for their oppressors?! War now is surely never ever the answer. So many dead and it will be tit for tat for generations.

It’s important to know they think it’s unreasonable, because we must accept that there are people, lots of people, who think this is reasonable. There are lots of people doing these dead’s, lots supporting them and still more who don’t care that it is happen. We can’t deal with this until we understand what we are dealing with.

Whatsinanamehey · 22/10/2024 14:04

I'm glad to see there are many people who do care. That is a horrifying thing to witness so we can't even imagine what it's like for those who are living this reality.

I agree with you. I just can't make sense of any of it. It's just gone way too far. What I find as appalling as the grotesque brutality displayed towards Palestinians, is the almost complete silence from the rest of the world. Just a few half hearted words from America. What the he'll is going on?

Unfortunately there are some heartless people amongst us who will justify this. People who lack empathy and humanity.

MissyB1 · 22/10/2024 14:08

Well I've sent another email to my MP, who knows if ur makes any difference, but I'm just desperate to do something. We need our politicians to take strong decisive action, otherwise we as a nation are complicit.

MorrisZapp · 22/10/2024 14:10

I saw it and it was utterly horrific. What a helpless feeling, to know this is reality and not be able to reach out and help.

SingingSands · 22/10/2024 14:12

It's horrendous. A literal living hell. I can't get my brain around it. The absolute destruction and terror and knowing that there are people in the world pushing and celebrating this, patting themselves on the back for it. It's beyond sickening, I can't even find the right words to describe it.

Scirocco · 22/10/2024 14:16

I'm sorry, @Namechangey23 it wasn't my intention to upset you and I apologise for doing so.

I've also been wondering where the humanity is. I read some comments elsewhere about the situation and some people are immune to the suffering. I just don't understand how in the 21st century humanity isn't any better than this. We've learned nothing.
