Conflict in the Middle East

To be properly crying because of what I just saw on the news. *Warning graphic description*

I often have the news on in the background whilst I work from home. Background noise and it's good to stay up to date with current affairs. Big mistake today.

Footage of women and children bleeding out in Gaza and a terrified and panic stricken medic (the only one alive to help!) not knowing who to help, passed a child screaming to help her sister who was dying, dead children in pools of blood, a woman propped up, dead or nearly dead with her leg blown off whilst many many explosions going off in the background. Blood everywhere and screams of dying women and children. I had to turn it off as I was in floods of tears. What in the actual f*ck. How is this still going on? How is this being allowed to happen? How are we and other nations funding this? Where is the humanity? This is obliteration. These are innocent people, not Hammas. The Israeli government need to answer for these atrocities and they need to do it now before any more die. These are war crimes. There is no other word for it. What an earth can we do to stop this!! INNOCENT PEOPLE, INNOCENT CHILDREN ARE DYING IN HUGE NUMBERS.

I just can't get over or understand why they can't leave if they want.

They shouldn't have to. No one should.

But death should not be the only option for anyone.

Israel has trapped them. It controls all entry and exit points on land and the coast, so nobody can enter or leave without permission.

People shouldn't have to leave their homes, but to turn their homes into what is effectively a kill zone and to trap them there feels a lot like mass murder to me.

The repeated quoting of this to call out apparent anti-semitism says far more about you than it does about people being horrified by what they see.

Where was anti-Semitism quoted here? They asked a completely unrelated question. Clearly people who feel anti-Semitism evokes some sort of emotion in you?

Honestly - just don't watch it. I don't. I catch the headlines on my phone in the mornings, clock that the conflict is still going on and then move on with the rest of my day. I do not look at the details nor watch any footage. There truly is no point - there is nothing whatsoever that you or I or anyone else can do. It is a total mess, but out of our control. We have to set boundaries and recognize that getting steeped in this and becoming upset does no good and does not increase the sum of human happiness on iota.

Sorry only just responding to a few of these now. I know you are right for self preservation purposes, ignorance is bliss, can't take on the world's problems and all that. But still if everyone does this, nothing will change. I still don't know what I can do other than write to MP and protest.

Raising awareness can still help. Israel banned journalists from entering Gaza and reporting on the genocide. Then doctors and medical NGO's from Western countries who left Gaza and reported on the horrors that they witnessed. After that Israel is no longer allowing most of them back either.

Inside Gaza, over a 100 Palestinian journalists have been killed. They are trying so hard to hide what is happening.

Comedycook · 22/10/2024 17:45

How is it hypocritical? Has there ever been a remembrance day where there hasn't been a war going on somewhere in the world?

Were those wars all genocides? Had our Government contributed arms to the ones committing genocide and cheered them on?

Namechangey23 · 22/10/2024 19:46

MedicineHat · 22/10/2024 18:16

You aren't being unreasonable for being horrified. It IS truly horrific and utterly heartbreaking. But you are being unreasonable for crying about it. Your tears won't change anything, they don't help the people suffering. Those people don't need your tears, they need action.

If course you are right, yes they need action. How can we convince our governments?! How can you not cry when you see something that horrific and can empasize with the poor medic who basically knows most of those there will die. And they were (the ones that still could!) crying out for her help. And she could die because there was still shelling or something exploding. It was a horrendous futile situation the stuff of your worst nightmares. I'm not surprised anyone on any side would get PTSD witnessing those things, pretty sure that medic will have for the rest of her life if she made it out alive. I hope some were able to be saved. But it didn't look promising at all and it was too late for most of them, especially the woman missing the bottom part of her leg.

I think when journalists are being banned you know it's very bad. Russian did this in Ukraine from memory as a reverb example.

How would you know? Do you enquire of every business you encounter whether they're Zionist or Indian owned? Bizarre.

Speaking personally, increasingly so. Any big spend I check the persons of interest filed at Companies House.

maudelovesharold · 22/10/2024 20:23

Real people can and do think this carnage is justifiable. They really do exist. They crop up on every thread about the massacre conflict.

maudelovesharold · 22/10/2024 20:25

That was in response to a pp who thought the votes justifying the Israeli actions were from bots!

I do work with people experiencing (different) horrific situations and I don't cry because I have self-control and know that I can make the most impact for good by holding myself together and doing my job. That is more important to me.

Sounds like you are probably doing some amazing work @MedicineHat and that's very rationalized logical thinking, but we are not robots so does it not affect you later? Or do you become hardened to this in a way because it's your everyday experience? I guess training takes over too. For what it's worth, I'm not overly emotional but this video did move me, but I am not trained obviously to seeing this sort of thing on a daily basis, I just sit in front of laptop. Not particularly worthy career!

I cried all through Yom Kippur. I know it’s not much use. I know I am helpless.

What the Israeli government and military are doing are literally crimes that are called abominations in the Torah. I believe there will be a reckoning from God for what is being done to the Palestinians, Lebanese, and international humanitarian workers and protesters.

From the Ashamnu of the traditional Ashkenazic Viddui prayer for Yom Kippur. The full text can be found here.
אָשַֽׁמְנוּ.
ah-sham-noo
We have trespassed [against God and man, and we are devastated by our guilt];
בָּגַֽדְנוּ.
bah-gahd-noo
We have betrayed [God and man, we have been ungrateful for the good done to us];
גָּזַֽלְנוּ. דִּבַּֽרְנוּ דֹּֽפִי.
gah-zahl-noo
We have stolen; We have slandered.
הֶעֱוִֽינוּ.
heh-eh-vee-noo
We have caused others to sin;
וְהִרְשַֽׁעְנוּ.
vih-heer-shah-noo
We have caused others to commit sins for which they are called רְשָׁעִים, wicked;
זַֽדְנוּ.
zahd-noo
We have sinned with malicious intent;
חָמַֽסְנוּ.
chah-mahss-noo
We have forcibly taken others’ possessions even though we paid for them;
טָפַֽלְנוּ שֶֽׁקֶר.
tah-fahl-noo sheh-kehr
We have added falsehood upon falsehood; We have joined with evil individuals or groups;
יָעַֽצְנוּ רָע.
ya’atznoo rah
We have given harmful advice;
כִּזַּֽבְנוּ. לַֽצְנוּ.
kee-zahv-noo lahtz-noo
We have deceived; we have mocked;
מָרַֽדְנוּ.
mah-rahd-noo
We have rebelled against God and His Torah;
נִאַֽצְנוּ.
nee-ahtz-noo
We have caused God to be angry with us;
סָרַֽרְנוּ.
sah-rahr-noo
We have turned away from God’s Torah;
עָוִֽינוּ.
ah-vee-noo
We have sinned deliberately;
פָּשַֽׁעְנוּ.
pah-shah-noo
We have been negligent in our performance of the commandments;
צָרַֽרְנוּ.
tzah-rahr-noo
We have caused our friends grief;
קִשִּֽׁינוּ עֹֽרֶף.
kee-shee-noo oh-rehff
We have been stiff-necked, refusing to admit that our suffering is caused by our own sins.
רָשַֽׁעְנוּ.
rah-shah-noo
We have committed sins for which we are called רָשָׁע, [raising a hand to hit someone].
שִׁחַֽתְנוּ.
shee-chaht-noo
We have committed sins which are the result of moral corruption;
תִּעַֽבְנוּ.
tee-ahv-noo
We have committed sins which the Torah refers to as abominations;
תָּעִֽינוּ.
tah-ee-noo
We have gone astray;
תִּעְתָּֽעְנוּ:
teeht-ah-noo
We have led others astray.

It is long past time for shalom. It’s not the empty causal “hi” it has become, Israel needs to put it back in its rightful place in its meaning of peace, harmony, togetherness and completeness for all humanity.

For as Yom Kippur came to an end, but before the gates of heaven closed, the words that are spoken only in this hour of divine mercy are: "You set mortals apart from the first, that they would stand before You."

"Mortals" - enosh - it is written. Not "Jews," not even "humans." Enosh was the son of Seth - Adam and Eve's third son, who was born after the murder of Abel - in whom the hope was vouchsafed for a different enoshut, humanity.

I pray the powerful in Israel turn back towards God’s Torah and recognise that all mortals are chosen and beloved by Him.

Do other global conflicts upset you, or just this one?

Is that really all you can say to a description of a scene of innocent people suffering? Children dying? You should be ashamed of yourself for your heartless, callous post.

Anyone who cares about Israel should care about the current actions of the Israeli authorities.
