For those that have friends and family in Israel just a quick message to hope all is OK at this worrying time.

There was a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv today too.

Yes I think the death toll is seven now. Two armed terrorists from the West Bank who just shot people at random.

It’s so sad.
And this is what people who go on so called “peaceful marches” and shout ‘globalise the intifada’ are calling for.
if you go on those marches, that’s what you’re choosing to stand alongside and the company you’re choosing to keep.
Why would anyone want to align themselves with people who want to see Jews murdered just for being Jewish??

What are you going on about? You don't have the right to just slander people like that or throw accusations blindly.

The pro Palestine marches were calling on the Israeli government to stop killing innocent Palestinians... and you take that to mean they 'want Jews murdered for being jews'? You seem to think the only reason people could possibly support Palestinian people is because they hate Jewish people? Palestinian people do not exist as an aside to Jewish people. In fact there are Jewish people who are also Palestinian. The protests are against the Israeli government, not Jewish people.

i hope you understand that Palestinians are also people with daily lives and hopes and dreams. I really wish you could see this, and think about how many innocent children have been killed in the past year. I really wish you would also use your voice and ask for the killing to stop.

The protesters do not mean harm. Please stop spreading this hateful narrative.

when those who experienced the Iranian missiles this evening” that would be the whole country. Including the medical emergency workers who were in the middle of doing life saving treatment in the immediate aftermath of a terrorist attack with multiple casualties

“ they would walk into a street with quite a few a few bombed-out buildings, just so that they could start to empathise with all the other people in the middle east who have had their home destroyed.” the north has been under bombardment since October 8th. By December 2023, kibbutz Manara had already had 86 out of its total 155 homes damaged or destroyed by Hezbollah bombardment. I dread to think what state it’s in now. And that’s just one kibbutz of many up north. By August 39,000 acres of north Israel had burned.
Do you know that Barzilai medical centre ( a hospital) was hit at the start of the war? Luckily they’d already evacuated the high risk pregnancy and gynae wards not long before, as the rocket struck close to those wards. I don’t remember seeing it reported in msm.
Apart from majdal shams, there has been other playgrounds also hit by rocket fire, and schools and homes. The shrapnel itself is massive, and the reason why Israelis stay in bomb shelters for ten minutes after.
Many homes across Israel have been bombed out, well before this latest attack.

the picture is some shrapnel from last night of a missile that landed in the Negev

I hope those brave emergency workers are allowed to do their jobs safely and manage to get home to their families... unlike the emergency workers in gaza who were murdered by Israeli forces for doing their job. The Hind Rajab story continues to haunt me

Oh stop, you'll be telling us next they just have a problem with Zionists, not Jewish people.

Agreed, HelenHen was only pointing out that many people sympathise with Palestinians and don't hate Jewish people or want them dead, for being Jewish. That's an absolutely awful thing to say. As is saying that Muslims love their children less than they hate Israel. How dare anyone say such a thing.
Why can't we sympathise with people in the middle east without it descending into this nastiness.

Take a look at yourself

I'm very sorry for my typo. I do actually know how to spell Israel. Surely we all make typos occasionally? No disrespect was intended.

Agreed. I read this thread and posted on it with the intention of showing support to any innocents caught up in this.

I cannot turn a blind eye though to those taking the opportunity to say bad things about people who just want the killing to stop.

Please just take that elsewhere and keep this thread as a means of love and support for those who need it.

You didn’t spell Israel wrong though so nothing to apologise for if this is the post being referred to.

I did on another post. It was purely a type and I didn't mean to offend anyone from Israel.

Typo! Not type. As you can see, I'm prone to typos...

anotherlevel · 02/10/2024 12:15

Ah ok, it happens to everyone don't worry.

MangeMonCochonnet · 02/10/2024 12:18

Pretty sure I did intifada wrong too but these things happen.

I would love nothing more than peace on this thread (and elsewhere ofc).

Comedycook · 02/10/2024 12:19

I mean it's a spelling I see often on these boards and I generally assume that it's done as a passive aggressive statement to suggest Israel should not be a recognised country....

But I appreciate your explanation and apology

HopeMumsnet · 02/10/2024 12:48

Hi all,
Good to see some sort of reconciliation on this thread, let's keep posts civil and respectful if we can and keep ironing out any misunderstandings in good faith.

stomachamelon · 02/10/2024 13:30

@HelenHen one minute it's policing the thread then it's what about, what about, what about.

If you have something else you wish to discuss you can always start your own thread rather than dominate this one whose thread title is quite explicit.

Josette77 · 02/10/2024 13:42

I have a dear friend in Israel with her three girls. It is so scary. Her and her girls are incredibly brave. I don't think I'd be as brave as she is.

Humdingerydoo · 01/10/2024 21:10

Wait, of all the posts on here this is the one you decide is bullshit? The one that simply says that Israel invested money in protecting its citizens while terrorists stole money and used it for weapons, bunkers and tunnels? I really don't understand what part exactly you think is bullshit? Do you not think Hamas and Hezbollah have tunnels and weapons? Do you not think terrorists steal?

Lebanon couldn't afford the air defence system Israel has regardless of what Hezbollah is or isn't up to.

Plus I am fairly sure Lebanon is not allowed an air defence system like Israel has and I think it is linked to the UN resolution 1701 which Israel is supposed to adhere to "Any crossing into Lebanon is in violation of Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a violation of resolution 1701."

Really? I have seen pro-Israel posters spell it incorrectly too. It’s an unusual word and not everybody is good at spelling. People are more than able to write ‘anti-Israel’ comments without resorting to intentional spelling mistakes.

stomachamelon · 02/10/2024 15:13

@Silence1 no bunkers either or safe rooms? Israel being prepared has saved thousands of lives. Seems you have chosen to ignore the countless other ways countries can protect their civilians and prioritise them?

I don't think picking over 1701 when the crux of it is that ' no armed militias are supposed to operate in the whole of Lebanon' has hardly been stuck to, is going to do any good?

Humdingerydoo · 02/10/2024 15:27

Edited

Could it possibly be that they can't afford it because terrorists are stealing a whole lot of their money and spending it on weapons instead?

Plus, bomb shelters wouldn't be against any resolutions. But Hezbollah would rather start a war and then complain that Israel is deigning to fight back.

spuddy4 · 02/10/2024 15:45

So much hate on this thread. What hope does the world have if people can't see past their differences and stop taking orders from the people in power that are telling you who to hate. No one is born hating, it's taught. A life is a life and all life is precious, I hope everyone stays safe on all sides and I know it must be a worrying time for so many people with friends and family in all the affected countries.
