Is that the same centre that had such horrific abuse that it was even exposed by Israel's own whistle-blowers? The one that CNN exposed a few months ago.

ScrollingLeaves · 29/07/2024 18:08

Latest from The Times of Israel
says the allegedly abused man was involved in acts of terrorism. Another poster here mentioned Sde Temain is not for terrorists.

Report says alleged abuse of Sde Teiman detainee took place around 3 weeks ago
By EMANUEL FABIAN

The Palestinian detainee who was allegedly abused by Israeli reservist troops at the Sde Teiman detention facility had been arrested by the IDF in the Gaza Strip several weeks ago and was allegedly involved in acts of terrorism.

According to an Army Radio report, the abuse itself took place some three weeks ago at Sde Teiman.

The report says that the terror suspect was found at the military base in critical condition and taken to a hospital for treatment and surgery. He is now no longer in life-threatening condition.

Over the last three weeks, Military Police investigators collected evidence on the incident and decided today to take the suspects in for questioning, the report says.

Ten suspects are allegedly involved, nine of whom were detained today at Sde Teiman.

Army Radio says they are all suspected of “serious abuse of the detainee,” and they all likely carried out the abuse together.

Re: the question, is Sde Temain not for terrorists? The CNN investigative report posted by
Parking111, states that it operates as a filtration camp and under the Unlawful Combatants Law they can be held for 48 days without charge. After detention here detainees thought to have Hamas links are sent to the IPS. Others are to be freed.

Haaretz,
Sde Temain sexual abuse:

ISRAEL: Israeli Military Police officers raided the Sde Teiman detention facility and detained nine soldiers on suspicion of abusing a Palestinian detainee. According to a security source, the detainee was taken to a hospital with severe injuries to an intimate body part – injuries that left him without the ability to walk.

Haaretz, more about Sde Temain.

  • After reports of the soldiers' arrest, far-right Knesset members, IDF reservists and civilians arrived at the Sde Teiman facility to protest. Far-right lawmaker Tzvi Succot, a member of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's Religious Zionist party, was filmed leading a group of protesters to the gate of the base, confronting soldiers guarding the gate, and forcing his way through. A stream of protesters then rushed through the gate, chanting slogans against the detention of the soldiers.
  • Following public condemnations of the soldiers' arrest by right-wing and far-right Knesset members, opposition lawmaker and former war cabinet member Gadi Eisenkot said he "calls on all parts of the political system to not interfere with investigations carried out by the military police," and said that "an attempt to prevent a criminal investigation is not only illegal, but harms the IDF." Former war cabinet minister Benny Gantz said that "There is no doubt that the Nukhba detainees, vile murderers, do not deserve any special conditions, and yet, the military must act while adhering to values and the rule of law. Anarchy must not be allowed."
  • IDF Chief of Staff Herzl Halevi said "We are at war, and actions of this kind endanger the security of the country. I strongly condemn the incident, and we are working to restore order at the base." A statement from Netanyahu's office said the PM "calls for an immediate calming of the spirits at Sde Teiman, and strongly condemns the break-in into an IDF base."
  • Labor party chairman Yair Golan demanded an investigation into the "Force 100" unit to which the detained soldiers belonged, saying: "Today we were exposed to the existence of armed militias that work to threaten sovereign bodies, including an explicit threat to soldiers and officers in the IDF

I’ve just read an unverified report of the sexual abuse committed and it is truly horrific. I’ll post a link once it’s verified. This is sickness on another level.

So just to get it straight, these people are rioting because they want to protect some idf soldiers from being investigated for alleged hideous sexual assaults on prisoners.

Even though they will know full well that the soldiers are likely to face zero consequences after the ‘investigation’ anyway…

It's sick Finally, they've just redeployed 2 battalions to the area due to the protesters. The fact that they lack the self awareness and are not able to realise how bad this looks to ordinary humans, points to a very very sick thinking within this group. Unfortunately many will judge the whole Country.

Yes, The Jerusalem Post says this about the whole country could judged,

Second, Israel must investigate human rights abuses in order to avoid international sanctions, and a mob cannot and should not be able to stop investigations. Even the attempt to stop the investigations and support of a number of government ministers could have international implications

And fourth, and perhaps most importantly, Israel cannot become a place that accepts and encourages brutal torture. Israel's strategic strength stems in part from its moral high ground and democratic norms. If we replace these with the unchecked primal urge for revenge, we would be no better than our enemies. At the most fundamental level, this would indicate victory for Hamas.

It’s absolutely insane. I just read this from one of the 972 editors, I’ll post a link.

“In essence, soldiers are in open rebellion for the right to rape prisoners, and more and more coalition politicians are joining them - from Likud, Jewish Power, and more… Context: Sde Teiman has been acting as a torture camp for months. The testimonies of inmates, physicians and soldiers who served there are horrifying. What the MP is doing is to try and show minimal levels of enforcement, to fend off ICC/ICJ. Even that is unacceptable to some…

Here’s one testimony: https://t.co/zPVPo7QdPe

Im glad that they are critical of the torture and the mob rule, but I find it incredulous that a journalist can write

Israel's strategic strength stems in part from its moral high ground”

Are they not aware of their government and army’s conduct over the last 9 months?! Or the actions of the settlers.

Moral high ground compared to what?!

It's something we've discussed on other threads.
The IDF leaderships actions by allowing/looking the other way whilst these soldiers broke international law and committed atrocities in Gaza is coming home to roost. Ultimately it's Israeli society that will have to pay and that they'll destroy.
It's the Nietszche quote come alive and was so easy to predict:
He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.”

Too true.

From the Jerusalem Post.

It was clear the man had been tortured or sodomized. If the soldiers involved do get away with lying about this it is proof they are lying all over the place.

Military prosecutor: No basis for sexual abuse allegations at Sde Teiman

^By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
Published: JULY 29, 2024 20:24^

Israel's military prosecutor, who is representing six of the nine reservists suspected of sexually abusing terrorists at Sde Teiman, said that they had no reason to believe there is a basis for the accusations against them, Israeli media reported Monday night.

"These are reservists, all of them normal citizens with families, who performed their complex duties faithfully while continuously risking their lives. We are convinced that it will become clear in a factual and professional investigation that there is no basis for suspicion against them. "

“What we are currently facing is like the horrors of judgement day.”

A Palestinian doctor in Gaza recounted scenes of patients dying in his arms and desperate civilians seeking refuge in hospital corridors, after 300 days of Israel’s offensive.

“Simple cases pass away in your arms because there is no space or no basic medical supplies,” said Dr. Mohammed Mohsen, a doctor in the intensive care unit of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza.

“Please don’t stop talking about us, about our stories. We need this war to stop. We are human beings and we need to live in peace,” he added. “When we see you talking about us this gives us some release… At least if we passed away, we would not be anonymous.”

Mohsen’s testimony was shared with CNN by the UK-based NGO, Medical Aid for Palestinians. Read my reporting.

HOSTAGES/CEASE-FIRE: The heads of the Mossad intelligence agency and the Shin Bet security service traveled to Egypt and returned to Israel on Saturday to continue negotiations for a hostage release/cease-fire deal. Sources familiar with the negotiations told Haaretz that Hamas did not "blow up" the talks and remains committed to them, but according to Israeli estimations, Haniyeh's killing in Tehran and the expected response will delay progress toward an agreement.

"A source familiar with the discussions of the limited forum that approved this week's assassinations said he thinks the heads of the IDF, Mossad and Shin Bet security service will soon say publicly (that is, during a security cabinet meeting, since those are leaked to everyone) that in their view, Netanyahu is the one preventing progress in the deal. That would be a turning point" – Yossi Verter

^War Will Usher in Israel's Redemption? Messianic Fervor Is Gaining Popularity Beyond Religious Fanatics
Disasters are a fertile ground for purveyors of apocalyptic prophecies^

Israel's national missions minister isn't alone in thinking that we are living in a miraculous time. Increasing numbers in right-wing circles have lately joined Orit Strock in identifying the war in the Gaza Strip with the War of Gog and Magog, and the ongoing disaster of October 7 with the birth pangs of the Messiah and the advent of redemption. Some, like Rabbi Eliezer Kashtiel, from the Bnei David yeshiva in the Eli settlement in the West Bank, draw on the words of the founder of religious Zionism, Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook (1865-1935), who said, "When there is a great war in the world, the power of the Messiah awakens." War has a purifying power, Rabbi Kook maintains, because it arouses the divine in humanity and helps overcome the selfish instinct. "The greater the destruction and the more systems that have fallen part… the greater the anticipation of the Messiah's footsteps."

This sounds similar to the way Sinwar might think imo (Messianic madness).
