At a time when justice, empathy and integrity seem to be in short supply, a little light in the darkness.

Link to the BBC Live page covering statements announcing that the countries will recognise a Palestinian state on 28th May.

Ireland and Norway to recognise Palestinian state, with Spain to follow - BBC News

Israel's foreign ministry has warned the move will "fuel extremism and instability".

Why are you posting this? It was a terrible day in Dublin where children coming out of a creche were attacked and stabbed by an attacker. Rumours went out about the nationality of the attacker and it led to horrific riots on the streets of Dublin. They were brought under control and arrests made. We have not had violent riots in our streets before and they were unanimously condemned. They have nothing to do with this conflict so I don't know what point you are trying to make here or what you are trying to say.

Some people will stoop to anything unfortunately...

@Polka83 Didn’t we get close to this prior to the murder of Rabin by a Jewish fanatic?

Yes, that was 1995 before Hamas came on the scene.

More info here - a long read but it sets out the background of the "cold war"

https://www.stimson.org/2023/what-drives-israel-iran-hostility-how-might-it-be-resolved/

Well precisely - not working to a 2SS empowers Hamas. Not helped by Netanyahu using a divide and conquer approach towards Palestinian governance.

It was in response to someone who said that Irish people "knew how to protest peacefully."

That wasn't a protest though it was a riot carried out by thugs many of whom were arrested and charged

And it was also encouraged online by straight up racist accounts across Social Media such as Ian Miles Cheong, Tommy Robinson and RadioGenoa. Who specialise in fear mongering about immigration and migrants.

Dulra · 22/05/2024 22:06

onegrumpyoldwoman · 22/05/2024 21:53

Well, they must have been protesting about something - people don't start riots for no reason.

And it appears protests are increasing ;

Did you miss my post explaining what sparked the riot. I'll repost below

It was a terrible day in Dublin where children coming out of a creche were attacked and stabbed by an attacker. Rumours went out about the nationality of the attacker and it led to horrific riots on the streets of Dublin

This happened in November, one of the children aged 5 that was stabbed is still in hospital with life changing injuries. Can you just stop bashing Ireland now, no idea what we've done to deserve it. Again I have no idea what this has to do with this thread other than a weird obsession you have with searching google to find out how horrible we are.

Dulra · 22/05/2024 22:11

@onegrumpyoldwoman this is the incident that sparked the riot

mollyfolk · 22/05/2024 23:38

What are you trying to say @onegrumpyoldwoman

The right of anti immigration far right ideas has rapidly increased in Ireland. There is definitely a violent, thuggish, dangerous element involved in some of those protests/movement although most are peaceful too.

The Palestinian solidarity marches have been peaceful, family friendly in fact. They are not the same people.

What a strange post.

I've a "weird obsession" when you're the ones rioting and protesting about immigration ??

That's funny !

Not funny no. Your agenda is very clear. Discredit the Irish people and their beliefs to reduce the significance of yesterday's announcement.

As always Irish people are told to stay in their box and remember their place on this website .

I'm afraid you really don't have anything to laugh about when you look at the uks shameful record of riots and violent protests over the years, cannot even protest peacefully at a Pro Palestinian march according to one op on here..

Why would you stay on a thread all day when you disagree with most people on it? Unless you're deliberately trying to start an argument of course? It's my right to suggest if people don't like what they hear then maybe they should move on?

It’s better if people aren’t driven away just due to different opinion

I don’t want to read one view and all else driven off

But no one is being driven off are they, they're still entitled to stay on and argue pointlessly if they want, it's just strange they would want to do that? But people are strange

I’d say you are trying though

And I’m not sure that’s the point of a chat forum. Only post if everyone agrees with you.

What an odd way to approach a chat forum!

For me, the whole point is to discuss, discover new things (which I then read up about), clarify my own ideas, hope that someone with the opposing view will consider a point of view they haven't before.

Why would you stay on a thread all day if you agree with most people on it and are just repeating the same ideas without learning anything new??

Of course not but at the same time you're hardly going to stay on a thread if the majority of people are of a differing opinion are you? People don't have to agree with me, I never said they did did I?

What tripe. If anything, more people will be motivated to point out that "state" recognition is a reward for terrorism and the atrocities Hamas committed on Oct. 7.

Virtue signalling with a cataclysmic outcome.

The irony is that Ireland would riot even more if people from Gaza migrated to Ireland.

Edited

Why is it odd? When I go on a thread I see things I may not necessarily agree with, that's fair enough, sometimes I will comment but more often than not I can't be bothered because my opinion on something isn't going to change theirs is it? That's life

That's your opinion, not the majority of the posts on here, also why would you think ireland would riot when our marches are always peaceful? Did the Daily Mail tell you that roo?

Maybe you should stop commenting on things that you know nothing about. That situation was explained several times on the thread, and you continue to make ignorant posts about it despite the explanations.

A far right element exists in Ireland, interestingly, British agitators are very active in it, like Tommy Robinson.

You are tarring everyone with the same brush by saying that "Ireland would riot" when clearly that is not the case.

Also, you have no idea how Ireland would react to Palestinian refugees. Unfortunately for the Palestinians, it's almost impossible to get out of the living hell that Israel has unleashed on them so we probably won't ever know. Not that I'm in favour of ethnic cleansing by Israel, obviously.
