UK revokes visa of law student who addressed pro-Palestine protest

With all the recent threads about the protests, I wonder what everyone thinks about the U.K. Government revoking the visa of 19 year old law student Dana Abuqamar. She said that:

“Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, but it seems to not apply to ethnic minorities, particularly Muslims and Palestinians like myself.”

She is challenging the decision and has accused the U.K. of hypocrisy. These are her comments, which she said have been taken out of context:

I always see written on Mumsnet that “freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence.”

Do you think the Government’s decision is the correct one?

The student has done a fine job in exposing the hypocrisy. Next time when you stand up to give a lecture on freedom of speech, do take a look in the mirror first :)

It's not 2014, it's 2024. Nobody cares.

I did. Britain invaded Libya, and as a direct result of the invasion, 10s of 1000s died.

No you didn't. You said the man responsible for 10s of 1000s of deaths was my current foreign secretary. My current foreign secretary is Tobias Billström.

No, you don't care. Others with morals do. I don't expect britsh to care - your history says a lot about you. I just laugh at your fake tears for Ukraine - which BTW was also years ago - no one cares :)

Isn't that so true

Why not protest in your own country

It didn't take long for your real venom to show, did it?
I'll repeat: we no longer care. Take your outrage elsewhere. Maybe start a blog.

You asked name a country invaded by Britain and I did . I assumed you were British, wrong on my parts perhaps but my point remains valid. Britain is guilty of that crime, along with countless others.

quantumbutterfly · 17/05/2024 19:28

Self defence. Didn't see the Bibas family fighting.

You're wrong in so many ways.

She never even mentions Oct 7th. She's talking about the Palestinian resistance to the current Israeli onslaught. I guess they're expected to just dig their own graves and lie down and take it?

She was interviewed on Sunday 8 October. What do you think she was referring to when she says she is 'really full of joy' and 'proud that Palestinian resistance has come to this point'?

I knew posters like you would come along and say this..
How does supporting Palestinians and their right to a country, self defence equates to terrorism?

What are you describing as "self defence"?

Is your name Dana, by any chance?!

Myb · 17/05/2024 19:47

Posters getting personal over here when they lose an argument. No surprises really. As I said, the hypocrisy has been badly exposed and its no wonder many can't take it when shown the mirror.

Anyways, looks like she is taking the legal route, hopefully the state will fund the legal costs which will hopefully be significant and she gets her visa reinstated - after all she was merely speaking in a "free" country and keeping in spirit of British values. Have a good day folks :)

I sincerely hope you don’t live in Britain if you hate us so much?

Why was OP's last post deleted?

quantumbutterfly · 17/05/2024 20:57

Maybe she was too close to the mark.

suburburban · 17/05/2024 21:04

What a waste of money

TizerorFizz · 17/05/2024 21:18

There's the issue of not offending your hosts of course. Freedoms are finely balanced when you are a visitor. If you don't like what position a host country takes, then don't go there.

noblegiraffe · 17/05/2024 21:34

People trying to defend someone who was clearly praising Hamas can get in the bin. Disingenuous bullshit.

She is a teenager, 19 years old, who says 15 members of her family were killed by an Israeli bomb in a residential area in Gaza.

To describe her as "these sorts..." and follow that with thinly veiled bile is disgusting.
