UK revokes visa of law student who addressed pro-Palestine protest

With all the recent threads about the protests, I wonder what everyone thinks about the U.K. Government revoking the visa of 19 year old law student Dana Abuqamar. She said that:

“Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, but it seems to not apply to ethnic minorities, particularly Muslims and Palestinians like myself.”

She is challenging the decision and has accused the U.K. of hypocrisy. These are her comments, which she said have been taken out of context:

I always see written on Mumsnet that “freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence.”

Do you think the Government’s decision is the correct one?

There was also that incident in Hartlepool on the news yesterday.

It is quite worrying

There is no such thing as freedom of speech here in this country....the double standards and hypocrisy of UK has been exposed for everyone to see. On one hand this country had a verbal diarrhoea when Russia invaded Ukraine, and on the other hand this very country took part, and still is, in the genocide of Palestinians - over 30K killed. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

She was cheerleading for terrorists

I've reported the post supporting terrorism and it seems MNHQ have not decided to delete it. I would suggest that others who also don't want terrorism support on MN also report it, because, wtf?

Maybe we should let it stand so we can see the type of people we are dealing with?

No, October 7th didn't happen in a vacuum. But this woman talked about those events bringing her joy. It brought her joy seeing woman raped and killed, children killed, teenagers taken hostage, 1,200 people killed. If you are OK with people celebrating all that, I assume you are OK with people celebrating Israel killing thousands of children in Gaza? Would publicly speaking about how that brought you joy be OK? There are lists of these children's names published online, maybe carrying a placards with some of there pictures crossed out, that would all be OK would it? Free speech and all that.
The only slight point people objecting to this might have, is that if someone did have a placard with dead Israelis names joyfully crossed out, they might be deported, while someone with dead Palestinian names joyfully crossed out might not.
Personally I'd like to see both people deported and take your hateful views with you.

Us letting it stand by not reporting it and MNHQ deciding to let it stand after it has been reported are two different things. I'm pretty horrified that it hasn't been deleted.

It has been deleted now. Not sure why it took so long.

She never even mentions Oct 7th. She's talking about the Palestinian resistance to the current Israeli onslaught. I guess they're expected to just dig their own graves and lie down and take it?

She was talking about 7 October. Did you actually watch/listen?

Good riddance to her

Away with your lies!

Her comments were made on 8th October before Israel had made any response.

Absolutely this. I think, as someone else suggested someine supporting terrorism should have their account revoked actually and possibly be reported to the polic. I only saw it briefly so cant remember exactly what it said but supporting Hamas is illegal in this country and Islamist terrorism is a real & present danger to Jews and everyone else.

They said the events of 7th October were 'legitimate restistance'.

The previous poster is right. Someone who describes cutting off a woman's breasts while gang raping her, shooting babies dead in their beds, and burning families alive while filming their screams as 'legitimate resistance' needs to be reported to the police, not just have their posts deleted.

I'm not even going to reply to this silliness but every post you write makes you less credible than the last.

@myb are you for real?

A simple search reveals the following. I would say it does not get worse than Islamist terrorism. Scary stuff.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Islamist_terrorist_attacks

According to Fondapol, a French think tank, between 1979 and May 2021, at least 48,035 Islamist terrorist attacks took place worldwide, causing the deaths of at least 210,138 people. During this period, each Islamist attack resulted in the death of about 4.4 persons on average. The most common type of weapon used are explosives (43.9%). The main target of these attacks is the military (31.7%), followed by civilians (25.0%) and police forces (18.3%). Afghanistan was the country most affected by Islamist terrorism, followed by Iraq and Somalia. With at least 82 Islamist attacks and 332 deaths, France remains the country most affected by Islamist terrorism within the European Union. The majority of Islamist attacks (89.5%) were in Muslim countries and the victims were mainly Muslims, in the same proportions.[1]

Plenty of people seem to prefer it here than Islamic republics or states.

Wonder why that is?
