There are concerns that the report was watered down, but even so, it's a new level of criticism to say these issues formally in a report at this level.

US says Israel may have breached international law with American weapons in Gaza

Report says it is "reasonable to assess" there have been breaches in Gaza, but admits it does not have "complete information".

Sums up what America and the majority of the world have been doing for the past 10 months.

I can understand to some extent that they are experiencing this as being yelled at extremely loudly, but to actually block their ears in public is appalling.

Sad to see that Palestinian victims were not allowed to have representation at the Democratic Convention, only Israeli victims.

“Uncommitted delegates urge the Democratic Party to reject a hierarchy of human value by ensuring Palestinian voices are heard on the main stage. We are learning that Israeli hostages’ families will be speaking from the main stage,” they said in an earlier statement.
“We strongly support that decision and also strongly hope that we will also be hearing from Palestinians who’ve endured the largest civilian death toll since 1948.”

Indeed it’s not been proven so it feels like they were just trying to make accusations without any proof.

What could be more dangerous than allowing her to have a voice and breathe humanity into suffering. Wonder if those celebrities also signed petitions against the extremist (not far right, but actually extremist) members of the Israeli government, you know, the people who are actually dangerous and responsible for the death of tens of thousands of human beings.

re those people holding their ears.

I have just realised that the hostage Hersch’s parents spoke at the same conference.

You can see them speaking in a video posted on the ‘Held Hostage thread 4’ and so many of the audience are clearly distressed hearing them speak.

Yet, Hersch’s father specifically spoke about the Palestinian’s suffering too, and about everyone mattering - each person being a universe.

So if those audience members were really listening to him and his wife, two people who really know what suffering at the hands of Hamas means - yet who nevertheless want Palestinian suffering to end too - how could those people leaving block their ears while the Palestinian deaths are being called out?

BelleHathor · 23/08/2024 00:03

It's an active decision that they've made to cover their ears.

Due to successful lobbying the American election is currently a competition between both parties attempting to show who can be the most "Pro Israel".

The Democrat party has always operated in a very controlling you're either with us or you're against us manner. After the decision to replace Biden with Harris was made, liberals were expected to fall in line and ignore Palestine. Many have, but more importantly a lot more haven't. There was even a well funded campaign by the KHIVE last week to spilt the historical solidarity between Black Americans and Palestinians or as they were rudely labelled "the watermelon people". Luckily Gen Z saw through this and pushed back swiftly and it never gained traction.

Basically the Democrats have made a gamble that Kamala will still be able to win despite losing what could be a considerable amount of the younger and minority votes. They're hoping that the fear of Trump will mobilise that base, however what they've miscalculated is that behaviour like last night is unacceptably cruel and bad optics. Kamala is just as complicit as Joe and the myth of Democrats being a the good party is shattered as the current administration has actively supported a plausible genocide.

Unburdened by Palestine: Shedding Black liberalism for anti-imperialism

Liberals are demanding that Black people in the U.S. put aside our long tradition of anti-imperialism to support Kamala Harris and sacrifice Palestine in the process.

Yes the link I posted from Muslim women explains that the hostage on stage had shown more empathy for Palestinians than Harris hence this group can’t continue supporting anymore this party.

I think the fear of trump being the president will give loads of votes to Harris. However , like it happened in the uk there will be many areas where Harris might have won easily and it won’t be anymore because of the lack of support from the democrats for Palestine. You can’t seek a ceasefire whilst providing weapons And aid to one of the members of this “war”

It feels like the situation in general is in limbo, but that time is running out. Are many things hanging on November?

I was wondering what is made and exported from Gaza and the West Bank to the USA (rather than from Israel per se) if most imports from the region will simply be labelled Israel in the future, even when they are from the West Bank or Gaza?

derail warning.
Just now while starting to look I never found out but was set off course on that search by finding that in 2021 Gaza was forbidden by Israel from importing chocolate or laptops among other things. (Laptops were particularly necessary in lock downs then.) Before that it was other strangely forbidden fruits:

Posting it here as well

The U.S. government’s two foremost authorities on humanitarian assistance concluded this spring that Israel had deliberately blocked deliveries of food and medicine into Gaza.

Turning a blind eye to pretend the report didn’t exist.

And to deliberately allow Israel to continue a plausible genocide.
Good job America!

America is always on the side of America and what is in their best interests, at least Trump, for all his faults, admitted that it is always America first.

Statement from trump about todays Iran attack on israel

ScrollingLeaves · 04/10/2024 18:58

Let’s hope not too many believe him.

Didn’t he cause the sudden Afghanistan withdrawal, trouble with Iran, and stoking problems in Israel?

I wonder if Putin is helping Iran? The more the US gives to Israel the less Ukraine will get the better for Putin.
