There are concerns that the report was watered down, but even so, it's a new level of criticism to say these issues formally in a report at this level.

Children outside a destroyed building in Gaza

US says Israel may have breached international law with American weapons in Gaza

Report says it is "reasonable to assess" there have been breaches in Gaza, but admits it does not have "complete information".

It seems this is not a new scenario.

Interestingly there are no protests outside the Saudi Embassy.

I wonder why?

There were protests about UK arms fuelling the war in Yemen. There is activism around this. But It has nothing like the pick up of Gaza or other conflicts. It’s truly the world’s forgotten conflict. It’s interesting to consider why but not the purpose of the thread! There are lots of non Jewish news items - no Jews, no news is simply not true.

I agree on the trump thing. He’s no interest in foreign policy and made such confusing comments about Israel that I don’t think he understands anything or cares about the conflict at all. It is possible he could pull funding. The US government in general are obviously getting frustrated and worried about their lack of influence over the current Israeli administration.

I am ignorant about the details.

Can someone here tell me, are the Saudis attacking Houthis and thereby incidentally helping Israel?

I feel angry that there are advertisements on the television asking for aid for desperate Yemenis, when we are helping to bomb them. It is a forgotten not much reported war. It must be the U.K. needs to be allies with Saudi Arabia.

There is something seriously wrong here, are these two guys really the best and only options that America have to lead it.

Yes worrying isn't it. Surely America can find better.

Those that interrupt Netanyahu's will face arrests

interesting how they’ll prosecute Americans in order to protect a war criminal.

Totally backwards! Do you think that was always the plan or they are freaking out after someone tried to assassinate Trump? And scaring people off protesting.

I would imagine that has something to do with their stance and also due to the storming of Congress in Jan 2021.

Parkingt111 · 24/07/2024 22:22

Well done Rashida!
Netanyahu's speech was awful today, and I couldn't agree more with Pelosi here

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has slammed Netanyahu's speech, calling it "by far the worst presentation of any foreign dignitary invited and honoured with the privilege of addressing the Congress of the United States".

Dulra · 25/07/2024 08:07

I didn't see much cover of it on the msm news platforms last night thankfully because I had no desire to hear what lies he spouted. I did hear that he dismissed the protestors outside as Irans useful idiots which is pretty disrespectful considering they are American citizens protesting on their own soil and he is a guest in their parliament, but the man is not known for his diplomacy. He is a horrible human being and the sooner Israelis get a backbone and get rid of him and his party the better.

Loving Nancy Pelosi's words and Rashida's protest more of that please

PeasfullPerson · 25/07/2024 09:16

Yes well done to Rashida Tlaib for pointing out the obvious, and well done to anyone who refused to take part in the circus.

Agree @Dulra it is disrespectful and divisive to call people useful idiots, and undignified, it shows a lack of restraint, but well, that’s not much of a surprise. He is a horrible human being, an exemplar of many of the things that are wrong with us. One day he can take his place in a history book, and it will be as an example of how not to behave.

ScrollingLeaves · 25/07/2024 09:30

He is said something like (nb this may not be the exact words but I watched the whole speech on Fox News and tried to note some points down.)

Hezbollah said they are not fighting Israel they are fighting America. Israel is just a useful tool.

Which country stands in the way of Iran’s maniacal plans to export radical Islam to the world?

And the answer is clear, It’s America, the Guardian of Western civilisation and the world’s greatest power.

Israel is America’s faithful friend in the Midfle East against this terrible threat.

Everything he said seemed to be believed by the US audience, by and large, with lots of claps and standing ovations.

PeasfullPerson · 25/07/2024 09:42

Grim @ScrollingLeaves

It must have been difficult to watch his whole speech, and that reaction 🤢

Are any of us surprised? It was obvious from the start that Israel wouldn’t abide by international laws. Many organisations have been warning about it, it’s been widely reported, and the US are just waking up are they?!

Even in that report the writers of it don’t conclude that Israel broke international law. I’m sadly not surprised that there are people like you tho who spread misinformation about Israel and Jews.

hes right about that. They are not all American citizens but you’re right that most are. However that doesn’t mean they are not being manipulated by a horrific regime in Iran who is behind the proxy of Hamas. They are. But of course antisemitism isn’t unique to Iran or hamas - it’s a good excuse for many other people to express their racism.

Maybe they’re enforcing the law finally? Maybe we need to actually do something about the racist mobs in our streets?

They aren't

Disagreeing with Israeli government actions in Gaza and calling out war crimes is not anti-semitic but you know that and are here to get a reaction, shame on me for biting

I can't understand the thinking that ALL those protesting against Netanyahu are anti-semites brainwashed by Iran. Since the war there has been protests almost weekly against him in Israel, surely they are not down to anti-semitism.
There were protests when Trump visited the UK too, none of that was due to racism.
There has been scenes of burning and violence outside his residence in Israel and that isn't due to anti-semitism.

In the words of Bernie Sanders:
Netanyahu is not only a war criminal. He is a liar.

All humanitarian organizations agree: Tens of thousands of children face starvation because his extremist government continues to block aid.

Israelis want him out of office. So he came to Congress to campaign.

Parkingt111 · 25/07/2024 10:39

Netanyahu is not only disliked by members of the public but also by members of Congress. There was a large amount of senators who boycotted his speech yesterday, a much larger number thank those who boycotted it in 2015.

They should start then by stopping war criminals entering their country

@crabsforceltigar well ofcourse whoever did that is and hopefully caught and prosecuted.

If you read what I wrote. I said ALL those who are protesting against Netanyahu are not anti-semites brain washed by Iran. It is an absurd thing to say.
I don't even know why people are surprised that a man who has an ICC warrant looming over his head for war crimes, is facing backlash whilst visiting a foreign country.
Did people think no one would oppose his presence? I don't condone violent protest, but people are and should be allowed to peacefully protest against him.

Fear is a powerful motivator. It works very well in Israel to help people turn a blind eye to human rights abuses and illegal occupation. I'm not surprised he is trying to manipulate the US in the same way. That is what the campaign Hamas is Isis that Israel tried to get off the ground earlier on in the conflict was all about too.

I'm just surprised that so many people in the West seem to be falling for it but it does seem to be helped by a hefty does of Islamaphobia, some people just needed an excuse to let their anti Islam flags fly and this seems to be it.
