Many university students are raising up against the ties their universities have with Israel. Students are asking for this agreements to stop
I can see this is happening in USA which has been in the news quite a lot but I can also read news about Paris as well as UK.

I really doubt much will change but I’m glad people are against these agreements. We can’t change what Israel / Hamas do. But we should be able to change what our governments / universities do.

And this isn’t about antisemitism really is it?

It’s about shutting down any criticism of Israel.

The complaints about the protests, the slander, the incorrect accusations, the attempts to intimidate.

Shame on those people who hijack the very real issue of antisemitism, to spread fear and division for their personal gain.

And pity on those who have become so consumed by fear and hate that they can’t see straight.

Which is exactly what Bernie Sanders has stated. Netanyahu wants all those who criticise Israel to be labelled as anti-semites.

@ZK1 gay marriage has been legal in all US states since 2015. On the whole abortion laws in the US remain considerably more liberal than a number of European countries where it remains illegal.

It's about shutting down criticism of Israel. The students are one group that have remained steadfast. Netanyahu's "American universities have been hijacked" speech was meant to mobilize the right against the "far left communist students".

It is meant to distract from the mass graves that were just found in Gaza.

It stokes up fear on one side and rage on the other.

As this tweeter put it:
"The short-sightedness of the Israeli gov is astonishing.

It is ensuring that a big portion of an entire generation of Americans - including its next elite - will view Israel as a genocidal, apartheid state that threatens American democracy.

This was Harvard earlier today."

Honestly, I don’t believe that he is.

I clicked on the other link too, which was seeming to suggest that Jewish students were being prevented from going to an area by other students. This is total rubbish, LOADS of the protesters and organisers are Jewish. The media seem to be hiding this. Why do you think this has been concealed?

The students don’t want Israel to keep blowing up children, burying them alive, storming hospitals and killing medics with their patients, sniping at toddlers, the list goes on. And this is not fabricated or taken out of context, there are literally hundreds of videos of evidence of all this stuff. I’ve seen so much of it now it’s no longer shocking in the way it was at first.

its really not about religion, it’s about human rights and crimes about humanity.

So who is he then?

PeasfullPerson · 26/04/2024 21:17

@BelleHathor

I definitely see Israel’s far right government as a threat to democracy.

As you said in an earlier post, these students are standing up for the morals they have been taught to follow, or at least I think that’s what you meant.

With some protestors being arrested, the hypocrisy I imagine will now hit even closer to home.

Posters on this thread seem a lot more concerned with free speech in the USA than free speech in Muslim majority countries.

Posters on this thread seem to be concerned about those being arrested in USA for protesting against their universities having deals with a country who is killing innocent civilians. They don’t want their fees paying for this.
you seem to have forgotten that Israel is killing indiscriminately innocent civilians

And there you have it. Pure antisemitism. And if people are bored by it I think we know what happens next.

“The pro-Palestine demos are full of loving solidarity between Muslim, Jewish, Christian, people of all faiths + none. You can see it.

That’s exactly what they’re scared of. Zionism is an ideology predicated on division. Love between all these disparate groups is its kryptonite.”

Absolutely, Netanyahu's desire has always been to stifle any chance of a 2 state solution and continue the subjugation of the Palestinians. His government only knows one way to operate and that is with extreme violence and control.

The students are the products of the morals that we as a society taught them, stand up for the oppressed. Something that applied to the Ukrainians 2 years ago but for some reason doesn't to the Palestinians. That hypocrisy doesn't work for younger students as far as they're concerned People are being killed, we must help them.

The arrests are going to be interesting, considering some of the students parents will have the opposite views to them.

Deeply disingenuous and deliberately stirring up hatred. Zionism is no more based on division than any other concept of a safe homeland for any group. And different faiths and ethnicities have lived together is Israel pretty well compared to other states in the ME. And given the historic near universal persecution of the Jewish people this sort of statement is dangerous & sinister as well as a complete misreading of history.

the calls for murder of Jews are linked above as you know. There is, of course, no “indiscriminate killing” of thousands of children. If war was the issue anyway, why no protests against links with Russian or Ukrainian universities? Or Saudi universities (given their war with Yemen)?

If there's no indiscriminate killing of thousands of children, what's the explanation for the thousands of dead children?

EasterIssland · 26/04/2024 23:47

just found this as the poster was mentioning relations between British unis and Saudi Arabia.

https://freedomnews.org.uk/2024/04/26/shag-fights-for-sheffields-universities-to-dump-the-arms-trade/

seems like the students from Sheffield have been protesting for years now. If they’re protesting now it’s not because they hate Jews but because they hate their fees being used on arms trades
i can see similar news from before 7-10 for other British unis : Nottingham, Lancaster ,
Bristol , Birmingham

SHAG fights for Sheffield's universities to dump the arms trade - Freedom News

SHAG has been fighting for both of Sheffield's universities to cut all ties with the arms trade and the Ministry of Defence for over two years.

Much of what I've seen and heard from the US has been in relation to largely peaceful protests and calls for ending relations which facilitate the development of resources used in the IDF's military action.

I've also seen some quite frankly disgusting footage of antisemitic speech and acts, which should have no place in decent society.

I support people's rights to protest. I also think hate speech is wrong and people assaulting, intimidating and threatening others should be dealt with through the relevant legal processes.
