University students rising up against ties with Israel (title edited by MNHQ at request of OP)

Many university students are raising up against the ties their universities have with Israel. Students are asking for this agreements to stop
I can see this is happening in USA which has been in the news quite a lot but I can also read news about Paris as well as UK.

I really doubt much will change but I’m glad people are against these agreements. We can’t change what Israel / Hamas do. But we should be able to change what our governments / universities do.

I didn’t In my comment say it was because of them being Jewish. If my university cut ties with Russian unis I expect them to do the same thing with Israel’s

Have they cut ties with Ukrainian universities?

in any event, there are no sanctions against Russian universities nor are there violent demonstrations demanding them (or demanding attacks on Russian people such as we see in the US demonstrations against jews and jewish Israelis.

I remember demonstrating against the apartheid in South Africa when I was a student. It’s important that our young people make their voices heard against the injustices in our world. Good on them!

“Al-Qassam, you make us proud, take another soldier out”

“We say justice, you say how? Burn Tel Aviv to the ground”

“Hamas, we love you. We support your rockets too”

Is that what they’re protesting for? Or is that what a few of them are calling for and you’re generalising ?

some of them are calling for Jewish people to be murdered, yes. And some actually attacking and barring entry to Jewish staff and students. When these matters are so publicly taking place, these demonstrations could not be said to be anything more than just antisemitic hate. No decent person involves themselves in that.

Hippyhippybake · 26/04/2024 19:17

Most of the students involved are unbelievably uninformed on the subject - it’s embarrassing. They are pawns and too stupid to see it.

Wait until they hear what most Palestinians thinks about homosexuality and women’s rights.

Finallyloggedin · 26/04/2024 19:18

I’m sure that their are some ‘protestors’ being planted by bad faith actors in order to make the whole movement look bad. The vast, vast and overwhelming majority just want to stop the US supporting a genocide, it’s that simple.

Just wondering what some of the pro zionists make of these protesters? They are actively stopping aid from reaching a starving population.

Isn’t your comment patronising ? Do you know them all to know to say they haven’t got a clue what they’re asking for.

also your last sentence is pink washing. Taking into account gays can’t marry in Israel and women can’t ask for divorce I don’t think Israel is either the best place to defend LGBT and women’s rights

Some of the students seem very comfortable supporting terrorist groups:

https://www.newsweek.com/pro-palestinian-protest-princeton-hezbollah-1894654

Yes. I have also seen clips showing young people who clearly have very little understanding of what they are protesting about and the slogans they are shouting. Including very extreme slogans like ‘we are Hamas’ and ‘burn Tel Aviv to the ground’. I don’t assume all students are the same, of course. But I don’t think much of this is very praiseworthy.

Young people are often in the vanguard of revolutionary and protest movements. We can argue about which movements are righteous and which aren’t. It is very dangerous, though, to think that because these people are young and somewhat educated that their cause is righteous.

Same for British , French and Spanish students protesting

I remember anti apartheid protests. We were not calling for people to be murdered. We were calling for fairness and equality (like in Israel where citizens Jewish and non are equal before the law). We were not supporting a violent extremist, racist, sexist, homophobic terrorist group who went on a murderous rampage.

EasterIssland · 26/04/2024 19:24

Professors have been arrested as well are they also clueless and pawns ?

Some weird cult-like chanting going down as well:

Again are all the protestors asking for this ? Because from what I can gather most are asking for their universities not to get involved with universities and companies from a country that is killing thousands indiscriminately most of them children.

That's convenient. Someone says something you don't like? They're a fake planted by the "other side".

Sadly many are.

we saw similar “protests” and “demonstrations” and attacks on Jews in Nazi Germany and Eastern Europe prior to WW2. It’s sad that we thought we had left this behind but clearly not.

Edited

the calls for murder of Jews are linked above as you know. There is, of course, no “indiscriminate killing” of thousands of children. If war was the issue anyway, why no protests against links with Russian or Ukrainian universities? Or Saudi universities (given their war with Yemen)?

It's talked about in this video from the Grayzone, particularly interesting from minute 23.

Seems to be plenty of racist, extremist, violent, murderous rampage behaviour from Israel towards the Palestinian people - and not just now either, being going on for years…… perhaps the student protesters don’t like that? 🤔

Hippyhippybake · 26/04/2024 19:32

Israel is happy to recognise same sex partnerships entered into outside of Israel for those living in Israel.

Israel is also happy to recognise civil divorce proceedings that were carried out outside of Israel. In other words it is exactly the same situation as a number of faiths (including strands of Christianity) in that while it doesn’t sanction divorce and homosexuality within its religious teachings it’s happy to accept them for others.

Hippyhippybake · 26/04/2024 19:33

And no sorry I won’t look to US Ivy League professors as some sort of moral standard - Claudine Gay!!!

im Spanish. Gays can’t marry in the church. They can marry in the council. A woman can seek divorce in Spain. Can a gay couple get married in Israel yes or not? Can a woman seek divorce in Israel yes or not. I’m not asking you abroad. I’m asking you in Israel.

Do British / American Unis have any kind of relation with Russian / Yemen universities ? Do they’ve any business between them?
