“There’s no other way to stop this carnage in Gaza other than enforcing a ceasefire. Israel needs to be forced to”

Francesca Albanese

You could probably force Israel. You couldn't force hamas to stop though.

anotherlevel · 08/07/2024 11:13

@Finallyloggedin exactly. It's been shut down a lot etc.

Furthermore, I find it quite sad—though perhaps that's not the best term to use—that we always have to reiterate the principle of the avoidance of doubt in the wake of an Israeli crime, but that the same scrutiny isn't applied to the opposite situation.

And how might this happen? Israel has violated a plethora of international laws with impunity, for years, so that means nothing.

I said probably. The US might be able by withdrawal of weapons, which could cause a catastrophe for Israel.

The UK has no power over Israel. The pro pal marchers don't appear to realise that.

Finallyloggedin · 08/07/2024 12:09

@Factsareimportantplease the uk could

  • stop supplying the parts for weapons
  • impose sanctions on Israel
  • recognise Palestine 🇵🇸

I think the last 9 months have shown that you can’t stop a genocide by asking nicely (not that the uk government has even really done that)

Thank you. So there are things to get Israel to stop and negotiate more.

They might do that if hamas release hostages as well.

Now what about stopping hamas, how can we help with that? Can we do anything to get them to release the people they kidnapped?

Both sides must agree otherwise we aren't going anywhere.

Finallyloggedin · 08/07/2024 12:33

Hamas committed awful acts but the scale of the horror the idf and Israeli government are committing daily ever since is far, far greater.

Hamas also offered to return the hostages on October 8th or 9th, for a ceasefire deal, and several times since. It’s Israel who won’t agree to a ceasefire.

Finallyloggedin · 08/07/2024 12:43

Also to add to my previous list:

  • join the SA case against Israel in the ICC
  • support the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant

Isn’t Hamas agreeing to release some of the hostages without a total ceasefire? It is Netanyahu holding back. (That was the news yesterday.)

Think that was me, and the C word.

‘I’m bored, so I shoot’: The Israeli army’s approval of free-for-all violence in Gaza
Israeli soldiers describe the near-total absence of firing regulations in the Gaza war, with troops shooting as they please, setting homes ablaze, and leaving corpses on the streets — all with their commanders’ permission.

“What's happening in Gaza since last night is a return to the first month of genocide. Under relentless bombing, people are forced to wander aimlessly, driven south to be slaughtered there. These are the darkest and most dangerous days of the war.”

Is she referring to newborn babies as terrorists?

Finallyloggedin · 08/07/2024 19:20

@Dulra Yes, I think that’s what the Knesset member says. The interviewer queries it and he confirms that is what he means.

As the 300 terrorists born in the maternity ward can only mean babies, then that suggests, given this person’s odd understanding of language, that the 150 ‘terrorists’ they ‘catched’ were not necessarily terrorists either.

Worst of all, calling 300 babies terrorists is dehumanising them. It sounds genocidal. If anyone spoke of 300 Jewish babies this way, it would rightly be called anti-semitism.

Lot of messages on X saying that Israeli troops have really ramped up the genocide in the last 24 hours. Tens of bodies being found all over the city.

also the psychological cruelty continues - https://x.com/swilkinsonbc/status/1810291969899254066?s=61&t=nilGqPeurpC5xVqZAZdZog

That is so disturbing, evil witch. How anyone could view a vulnerable newborn in that way is pretty psychotic imo.

That's horrific.
Why is this kind of language excused?

That video is outrageous. More genocidal intent being said out loud, for those who still deny that this is genocide.

I've heard that the last 24 hours in Gaza has been amongst the worst bombing they've experienced. God help them.

“My vision is to conquer Gaza... My vision is to encourage immigration, to tell the enemies in Gaza, willingly of course: "Get out of here". My vision is not a political agreement with Hezbollah, but a war with Hezbollah."

Itamar Ben Gvir, Minister of National Security, presents his vision at the MuniExpo in Tel Aviv a couple of weeks ago.

https://www.lpj.org/en/news/press-release-from-lpj-the-latin-patriarchate-of-jerusalem-concerning

“The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem is monitoring, with grave concern, the news of the raids, apparently launched by the Israeli army against the Sacred Family School in Gaza this morning. Footage and media reports from the place include scenes of civilian casualties and of destruction in the compound.

While property of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Sacred Family School has, since the beginning of the war, been a place of refuge for hundreds of civilians. No religious personnel reside in the school.

The Latin Patriarchate condemns in the strongest terms the targeting of civilians or any belligerent actions that fall short of ensuring that civilians remain outside the combat scene.

We continue to pray for the Lord’s mercy and hope that the Parties will reach an agreement that would put an immediate end to the horrifying bloodbath and humanitarian catastrophe in the region.“
