I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

But they are all innocent people. What happened to Shani Louk was horrific. These photos are horrific- neither justifies the other. I’m not minimising what Hamas did or do. I don’t support them at all. But these dead women most likely had nothing to do with Shani.

If you think it’s ok to kill, maim and traumatise a majority because some of them were Hamas, I think you have reached a point were you have dehumanised people. Why are innocent Palestinian lives so expendable?

Because one death is a tragedy and thousands are just Israeli “self defence”.

People trying to contextualise this image (which isn't fake as it turns out, despite them claiming it might be) seem to be forgetting that under that rubble are bodies.

God knows how many and many, many of them children. Little bodies that will never be respectfully buried.

Children who died terrified. That isn't 'just' posing in front of rubble. It's basically posing, smiling, in front of a mass burial site to which they have contributed.

Much easier to judge them from here I think.

I wonder how scared they are by what they're about to face, knowing what happened to people like them on 7/10, how much of their attitude is bravado to cover that fear. They are the same age as many of the hostages and other victims of 7/10. They may even be friends with some of those still held.

You are sailing perilously close to “they were just following orders” and we have all heard that before haven’t we.

Well said. What these women are doing is horrific and it's disgraceful that people here are trying to excuse it.

Two days ago Israel's attorney general Gali Baharav Miara also made a statement similar to the IDFs CinC condemning these 'revenge videos' [plus a whole lot of other things] so the word from the most senior people in Israel is that this isn't acceptable

Expect it's prep for the governments interim report to the ICJ due tomorrow

But their defence still continues on MN

Curious

Has the actual selfie photo the soldiers took been published anywhere? It would be interesting to see what was in the background of their photo.

Thanks. I searched twice before I asked but didn’t see it.

I’ve searched twice more since and still can’t see it.

No, I meant the actual picture that the soldiers took.

I’m interested to see whether it was of a group of smiling women with grass or something similarly neutral in the background or a group of smiling women with destroyed buildings clearly visible in the background.

I would feel less strongly against the former than the latter.

Oh for goodness sake everybody, this is just 'a storm in a teacup'.

Have a look at the picture and see what angle the 'selfie' was being taken from.

It was parallel to the view of Gaza. So Gaza would not figure in the selfie.

How do you know there is no more Gaza Behind them ?

EasterIssland · 25/02/2024 17:10

Just seen this one , Gaza isn’t neither behind the pic … as Gaza has been destroyed
I’d say it’s the same background as the other pic.

I've heard some bizarre logic on these boards defending the actions of the IDF but this one takes the biscuit.

Can you confirm who took this picture and at what angle it was taken?

No, I thought not.

Yes I can tell you who took it. The same person that took the picture from the opening of this thread.

regarding the angle , if you care to look closely , the buildings in the back both match

I think it’s reasonably safe to say that is the same group as in the OP’s picture.

However, it’s less clear whether or not it was taken by one of them or a third party from a distance. I suspect the latter.

How far from Gaza is this?
