I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

Could you explain what you did mean when you said their behaviour was then?

That should read “when you said their behaviour was understandable”

Fussandmisery · 24/02/2024 14:14

I didn't say it wasn't bad, I said the photograph of Shani Louk was worse
Ah yes, looks like I misread it (thought you said “how can anyone think this is bad” rather than “as bad”)
Sorry.

Thanks

Is it not obvious that the photo is fake? It doesn't even look real!

So in conclusion - it didn't happen, but if it did it wasn't that bad, and if it was that bad then what did you expect, but regardless of the ins and outs it's probably fake.

Yes; I meant that if women you knew had been sadistically raped, mutilated, scalped, gouged, tortured, butchered, and burned alive, by Hamas and the Gazan civilians who swarmed in to enthusiastically participate in the atrocities of 7 October, then playing silly jokes with the underwear of captured women is a natural way of letting off steam. Soliders are only human. That's not to say it's right, of course, but it's better than an eye for an eye.

quantumbutterfly · 24/02/2024 07:37

People in Gaza are demonstrating against hamas. If one Iranian guy gets attacked by sympathisers on the streets of London, how brave are those who demonstrate against hamas in their stronghold.

I stand with those who see hamas for what they truly are.
Is it a coincidence that Syria started bombing it's own people while the world looked at Gaza. Where is the outrage? Assad has used chemical weapons on his own people. Where are the demonstrations?

Their bravery is unbelievable.

Are you aware about idf members raping Palestinian women and children?

Their bravery is unbelievable.

Not sure that they are demonstrating against Hamas - a small demonstration has been filmed but it's also been reported as being against the IDF for bombing aid convoys

The last 'demonstration against Hamas' about 3 weeks ago turned out to be IDF propaganda

So who knows

Dibilnik · 24/02/2024 14:40

EasterIssland · 24/02/2024 14:33

Are you aware about idf members raping Palestinian women and children?

The UN, which has a notorious anti-Israel bias, says that at least two Palestinian women might have been raped. Without discounting this as criminal, it's not systematic brutalisation on the scale of 7 October. Truly awful things happen in wars.

quantumbutterfly · 24/02/2024 14:45

MCOut · 24/02/2024 14:08

Look at how you have been so willing to advocate for Israeli violence over October 7. Even if we discount all the previous injustice of Israeli occupation, do you truly think any people who have been subjected to mass murder and starvation will have the appetite for peaceful leadership? They’re not going to suddenly adopt your view that Israelis are superior and worth more.

It has been made abundantly clear on many occasions that Israeli leadership will always actively work against a prosperous Gaza.

That accusation says more about your own assumptions and aggressions.

Are you aware that women and kids have been raped before 7-10. So not in war. Also a rape is a rape. It doesn’t matter whether it’s in a war or not. Or is there different levels of rape ? Can’t believe you are minimising a rape

MCOut · 24/02/2024 14:58

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/02/2024 14:03

Around one third of the people that have been killed by the IDF are men.

Hamas say 6000 the IDF say 12000 dead are Hamas. Assuming the true figures are somewhere in the middle then yes around 1/3 of the dead are Hamas.

This leaves about 20,000 dead civilians in a population which is 50% children. However, you look at it that is unacceptable.

Yes, Hamas are terrorists and some of the people who are locked up are evil. Equally some are children and the information coming out of these prisons do not paint Israel in a good light.

Implicit in your comments is that she is more precious than the thousands of people under that rubble who we don’t even know the names of. It is not unreasonable for you to be challenged on this.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/02/2024 13:57

Please don't call me a liar because I disagree with you. Please delete it.

No I won’t delete it. You said

‘but I'm fed up with people yelling about it who have never posted anything about what Hamas do, or minimise it.’

These people you mention are non-existent, certainly this is not how I have seen regular posters behave.

I stand by my comment that you are lying, which please note is different from calling you a liar, and clearly relates to the statement made by yourself. I don’t know you well enough to call you a liar.

I am sorry you feel that enough attention has not been paid to the terrible acts committed by Hamas, as I have said multiple times, that these acts were condemned and not supported by our government is in my opinion a factor in where attention has been directed. In addition to this the scale of death and destruction in Gaza is huge and ongoing. That’s not to say it should be a competition, the loss of somebody’s daughter, son, mother etc is absolutely the most important thing to them, as was pointed out by a family member of one of the hostages recently.

As opposed to you characterising these soldiers as just silly, young naive girls. I find it interesting that there is this expectation that Israeli aggression should be minimised and contextualised when the World regularly calls out other nations who commit similar atrocities in ethnic conflicts.

you are confusing the word imply with infer.

Your inference is not the same thing as a posters implication. I doubt pp was implying Shani Louk has more value than for instance Hind Rajab but your wish to infer that makes me infer that you are more of an agent provocateur than a peacemaker.

Auvergne63 · 24/02/2024 15:32

Imagine the, justified, furore I would get if I was minimising the photos of the 07/10 massacres or trying to excuse the perpetrators by saying that they were misguided or that they were just young men., who lacked maturity or that it is just what happens in wars. Move along, nothing to see here; type of thing.
Yet this thread is full of posters who are doing this, regarding this photo, and who don't appear to understand why they are being challenged about it.
Frankly, I am sick of it.
I also think these posters would not voice this aloud in public.

So now their stupid selfie is an equivalent act of aggression...to what?

...and now you are equivocating a photograph with face-timing and celebrating murder, torture and mayhem.

Stupid selfie? Disgusting, amoral and unbecoming of "the most moral army in the world", you mean?

This selfie, as you have already been told, has been taken in front of what is, more than likely, the resting place of dead Palestinians. Therefore, it is indeed celebrating murder, torture ( for the relatives who can't dig them up from under the rumble) and hell, not mayhem.
I stand by what I posted.

If they are just silly, young and nieve why the fuck do Israel think it's OK to give them guns?

I have never referred to them as the most moral army in the world, that seems to be a sarcastic phrase dreamt up in the electronic intafada.

I have constantly said that war is bloody and hellish.

You have contextualised the photo to suit your own purpose, you say a photo is amoral and disgusting, you must lead a rarified life.

well I'm guessing they take handling a gun more seriously than handling a mobile phone, but it transpires that the phone is much more dangerous apparently.

I think the point the poster was making that if they are silly, young and naive as some posters have suggested why are they in the army in the first place where they are handling weapons that can kill. Young is fine but naive and silly suggests they are not proper trained and should not be there
