I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

No it’s not 8000 Nigerian Christian’s over a year it’s this year it’s only the 24th February, so 8000 this year!! God knows how many will be killed by Christmas.

newmomaboutthreads · 24/02/2024 09:55

These are soldiers of a democracy country, it seems correct that many people here are comparing their actions to the action of terrorists. They are the same.

My apologies. It still shouldn't be used as a deflection. I also noticed you failed to acknowledge our own government's enabling the genocide in Gaza, people have the right to discuss it in their own threads without your derailing. This thread is about Gaza, you can go and make another thread if you wish to discuss what's happening in Nigeria.

Absolutely disgusting

There is a massive difference with Syria. No western nation is supporting the Assad regime, there are sanctions, the opposition has been supported, most European nations have taken in Syrian refugees and continue to provide humanitarian aid. The is completely different to what is happening with Israel and Palestine where the British government are supporting Israel in their murder of innocent civilians so of course there is domestic opposition to that. It's not selective condemnation, point out the people here supporting Assad?

Russia is supporting Syria, as it has from the birth of the modern Israeli state, also propping up many other anti- Israel regimes.
Historically it has stirred up trouble in this volatile region to thwart American (western?) influence (though nowadays I think the Putin led government sees parallels between itself and a country with a discontented populace fighting against it's rulers) and had no qualms against sending Syrian Arabs to fight Jordanian Arabs because Palestinian Arabs tried to assassinate the king of Jordan and establish that as their homeland.
The British government is a very small player in the region but will naturally align with the US rather than Russia. The US has far greater clout and has exercised diplomacy in the region for many years as you have cited previously.

Thanks op for the thread. Unfortunately it didn’t take long for the attempts of derailment

I’ve said it for a while but many of iDefenfeF are not ready for defence. They’d be better being a tik tok influencer. The pics that are coming out of Gaza from the idf members are sickening. They should have never been sent to defence their country because they don’t know what defence is. They are only thinking how to become viral and be the next Kardashian

Parkingt111 · 24/02/2024 10:14

I don't think we should be making excuses for such behaviour as these are grown adults. Israel has unleashed one of the most horrifying bombing campaigns on Gaza that has been compared to the bombing of Dresden.
Most of the civilians who are lucky to still be alive have lost everything.
That soldiers from the IDF can take such pictures is extremely distasteful, I can't see why there are attempts to excuse it.
Its painful to see

julili · 24/02/2024 10:14

There are a lot of young, pretty IDF supporting tiktokers out there. They’re not mutually exclusive one bit

Parkingt111 · 24/02/2024 10:20

I suppose abit like the telegram group that was being run by the IDF called '72 Virgins' where they routinely published videos and images of their destruction of Gaza aswell as some quite disturbing content of torture and humiliation of Palestinians to thousands of followers as part of psychological warfare
Are we also going to excuse them as young naive reservists who get a pass

Furthermore the IDF commander in Chief wrote to them all this week telling them not to post this sort of material to SM

And yet.............

Parkingt111 · 24/02/2024 10:24

@Efacsen it might have been after the BBC published a article on videos made and posted by the IDF on tiktok that could be considered war crimes.

Parkingt111 · 24/02/2024 10:26

For anyone interested this is the article. These are not secretly captured videos that have been leaked. These are the things that members of the IDF record and openly publish for all to see which is marginally worse because they clearly don't feel there will be repercussions. It highlights a level of acceptance for such behaviour

Israeli soldier videos from Gaza could breach international law, experts say - BBC News

Experts say videos posted by IDF soldiers showing Gaza detainees bound and blindfolded could breach international law.

Much easier to judge them from here I think.

I wonder how scared they are by what they're about to face, knowing what happened to people like them on 7/10, how much of their attitude is bravado to cover that fear. They are the same age as many of the hostages and other victims of 7/10. They may even be friends with some of those still held.

Incredible.

What "international Law" are they breaching ?

quantumbutterfly · 24/02/2024 10:29

The first sentence refers to the Israel occupation army, this is not a neutral source. The writing is very emotive.
Further down it cites an 'anonymous' source and the response from the IDF that the content was unauthorised: ie not official.
Of course people will bring their own bias to that already partisan article but it doesn't dial down the inflammatory rhetoric fuelling all sides.

Parkingt111 · 24/02/2024 10:31

@quantumbutterfly There was a haaretz article showing the same thing but behind a paywall

mollyfolk · 24/02/2024 10:33

OneMerryRedSnail · 24/02/2024 10:27

Are you saying it’s ok for the IDF to celebrate the death & destruction in Gaza because they have killed people that have the same religion as other people that were involved in an abhorrent celebration in a different country?

Or what is this balance you are offering?

Dulra · 24/02/2024 10:34

OneMerryRedSnail · 24/02/2024 10:27

That's not balance it has absolutely nothing to do with the thread or Palestinians. This happened 20 years ago we have discussed this before and there are many videos of Israelis and the IDF celebrating Palestinian deaths.

Efacsen · 24/02/2024 10:34

Fascinating that the IDF CinC knows this stuff is wrong and yet 'mumsnetters' defend it
