I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

I don't know, @Scirocco . Do you have any Israeli Jewish friends?

If not, it's obviously a bit unbalanced, though of course completely understandable.

By the way, I don't have any skin in the game. I'm not Jewish, Arab, Israeli, Gazan, etc etc, in fact I don't even live in the UK.

In my extended family and social circles, there are people of many faiths, cultures and ethnicities. Several people I considered friends in the past, I no longer do, due to their attitudes towards the killing of innocent people, Islamophobic remarks and demonstrating that my own DC's life would be of less value to them than another child's, because of her ethnicity.

I used to do a lot of interfaith work. I've stopped most of it now as I'm tired of sitting and being nice to people who have shown they actually support killing my friends, and who return my efforts with prejudice, hate and justifications for death threats against my child.

At the moment, the government of the country in which I live is supporting, through action and inaction, the killing of my friends and the destruction of a society that my friends and I worked hard to try to save. When your friends have been bombed, shot and crushed to death, you might not want your government to support that. When people are taking selfies in front of places where the unburied bodies of your friends may well lie, unable to receive any burial rites, potentially with their deaths unrecognised because nobody remains to tell anyone they're dead, you might find that offensive.

I've been in some pretty horrible and stressful places. I've also wanted to let people know I was safe. I can honestly say, it never crossed my mind to pose for selfies in those situations. It says a lot about people's basic decency that it crossed theirs.

Dulra · 04/03/2024 17:52

It's not Antisemitism to say I don't support my taxes funding the weapons killing people I care about
... except that it sort of is, in the circumstances. @Dibilnik how this antisemitic needs to be explained?

Dibilnik · 04/03/2024 17:54

I understand your position, @Scirocco Flowers and thanks for explaining it.

Scirocco · 04/03/2024 17:54

And to add, if you consider yourself to have 'no skin in the game', what gives you the right to question the rights of people who have stood on that land, risked their lives on that land and have had loved ones die on that land, to dare to make comments about what's happening there?

Dulra · 04/03/2024 17:54

But how fucking dare anyone not living in Israel, not subject to the threat they endure, make comments about what our taxes will support, when "the people I care about" is so clearly one-sided. @Dibilnik the poster was talking about UK taxes not Israeli taxes!

Scirocco · 04/03/2024 17:55

Cross-posted @Dibilnik . Thank you for your message.

"I only care about what is, in my view, one of the worst cruelty by man on man of the 21th century so far "

Well, you can't be reading the news much.

Yemen - According to the UN, over 150,000 people have been killed in Yemen, as well as estimates of more than 227,000 dead as a result of an ongoing famine and lack of healthcare facilities due to the war.

Darfur - Between 2003 and 2008, the conflict resulted in about 300,000 civilian deaths and about 2.7 million displaced civilians. The key perpetrators were the Janjaweed and Sudanese government forces. The key targeted groups were the Fur, Zaghawa, and Masalit communities.

The Congo - https://www.cfr.org/global-conflict-tracker/conflict/violence-democratic-republic-congo

So are you only interested in mans' inhumanity to man when Jews are involved ?

Exactly this....I can think of numerous conflicts with a higher death toll that majority of people aren't even aware of...

whatsitcalledwhen · 04/03/2024 18:02

@Comedycook

That poster said 'one of the worst', not 'the worst'. And based on the number of injuries and deaths in such a short space of time, I'm struggling to see how anyone can suggest it's not 'one of the worst' to be honest.

And? So we're meant to turn away until the death toll reaches a level you think is worth bothering about. I've no idea why people make these sort of comments it is just crass and it has been pointed out so many times that most other conflicts mentioned are not supported by the UK and they are not selling arms to the military carrying out the atrocities. Also for many of these conflicts countries have taken in refugees and provided humanitarian aid, this is not possible in Gaza

For example ? And in what time frame ?

You were already given examples by a previous poster.... surely you are relatively aware of current affairs and previous conflicts worldwide

Darfur
300k in 5 years. = 60k a year = 25k in 5 months. That’s less than in Gaza

Congo 6 million since 1996. Edit as just did numbers. That’s 90k in 5 months. So more than in gazas officials deaths

Yemen 150k since 2014. That’s 6.2k in 5 months

whilst these deaths aren’t good I fail to see how these have “higher death tolls” as per your previous comment

These comments on other conflicts are just deflection. They serve no purpose whatsoever just to remind us that the world is a shitty place with a lot of horrible people in it. It will not make me or I am sure many other posters on here to stop caring about what happens to Palestinian civilians and Palestinian children. If you are concerned about the lack of attention these conflicts are getting why don't you set up a thread about it? Or Is It only meant to be those among us that care about innocent civilian lives that should have that responsibility?

Just to clarify the British government is not sending any money to ISRAEL for there war effort. They were spending money for Gazza , but unfortunately they have had to temporarily pausing any future funding of UNRWA as some of their employees seemed to be Hamas terrorists.

They are selling arms to Israel.
Thankfully many countries have reinstated their funding to UNWRA including the EU. The UK is on the wrong side with of things a lot lately

  1. They’re sending weapons to Israel
  2. Do you have a proof that urnwa is Hamas ? As Israel has failed to provide the information that confirms this I’m not sure how you’re so sure urnwa is Hamas

UNRWA have been helping Hamas for decades. Hamas were using UNRWA ambulances already during the second intifada. It's not exactly some kind of new claim. It's been going on for ages.

£42 million worth of arms just the other year.

Do you have a proof of this ? Taking into account Israel hasn’t still provided the proofs of 7-10 accusations.
also thought Israel’s pm had been helping Hamas for years ? 🤔

For example ? And in what time frame ?

Syrian civil war 613,407 as of March this year , Muslim on Muslim so that fine as it’s not the Jews defending themselves.

62,000 Nigerian Christian’s have been killed by the Muslim terrorist Boko Haram , no problem there as you can’t blame the Jews.

YAZIDI - 5000 killed 10,000 made into slaves by Isis , many girls rape. Made sex slave ,and burnt alive for refusing to convert to Islam.

Syria 600k in 13 years. 19k in 5 months. Less than gaza

yazidi less than Gaza as well.
can’t find the timeframe for Nigeria. So again , the poster i was replying to was saying there were other conflicts with more deaths. Which in the same timeframe it’s not
