I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

And I do consider there to have been acts that would constitute war crimes, based on eyewitness accounts among other things, and I do think that the ICJ investigation into allegations of genocide is warranted. There is a lot of evidence to point towards the intentional destruction of a society, its people and its culture, on a background of oppression and control.

OneMerryRedSnail · 04/03/2024 14:13

@Scirocco "Would it help if the post were re-phrased to say 'alleged genocide' and 'alleged war crimes'?"

Absolutely.
That would be the correct terminology.

So, will your 'opinion' have any weight in court? Are you saying they'll call you as a witness?
That's interesting.

Are you OK?

OneMerryRedSnail · 04/03/2024 14:58

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 14:28

Fine thanks.

You were so sure your opinion was soooooo valid that I was thinking the ICJ were going to call you as a witness.

My mistake.

You have a vivid imagination. I just said it's my opinion from what I've seen.

Neither of these have been proved, so I think you're getting a bit in front of yourself here.

You forgot the word yet. It is a matter of time before this is proven.
Meanwhile, carry on supporting what cannot be supported.
I couldn't care less what nationality/ religion the perpetrators are and what nationality/religion the victims are. I only care about what is, in my view, one of the worst cruelty by man on man of the 21th century so far and that the international community must put pressure (sanctions) on the Israeli government to stop this.

`Yes, pro-Israelis make that absolutely hilarious comment every time someone offers an opinion around the ICJ/genocide situation. Side-splitting stuff.

Well, you can't be reading the news much.

Yemen - According to the UN, over 150,000 people have been killed in Yemen, as well as estimates of more than 227,000 dead as a result of an ongoing famine and lack of healthcare facilities due to the war.

Darfur - Between 2003 and 2008, the conflict resulted in about 300,000 civilian deaths and about 2.7 million displaced civilians. The key perpetrators were the Janjaweed and Sudanese government forces. The key targeted groups were the Fur, Zaghawa, and Masalit communities.

The Congo - https://www.cfr.org/global-conflict-tracker/conflict/violence-democratic-republic-congo

So are you only interested in mans' inhumanity to man when Jews are involved ?

If you re-read the post you've quoted, it says "one of the worst".

Being able to come up with some other examples, when it's already clear in the post that other examples exist, isn't really a big win. All it does is show that you can identify that horrible things have happened elsewhere as well, as is clear in the post.

Well said no marching and demos for Yeman, Darfur ,Syria , Lebanon , Yazidi genocide, christian nigerians and countless other Muslim on Muslim atrocities. It’s because it’s the Jews , let’s just call it for what it is Antisemitism.

So sorry no I’m not sickened at the photo .

but I am pretty sickened at how the Jews community in this country are being treated by the mob!! In fact I am ashamed of the Antisemitism I have seen since that terrible day in October.

Nanalisa60 · 04/03/2024 16:35

And if Hamas had given I jot about the Palestinian people they would have handed back the hostages on the 10th October.

Dibilnik · 04/03/2024 16:35

Me too @Nanalisa60

Since when did social media posts become important sources of information about a country and its strategic intentions?

PeasfullPerson · 04/03/2024 16:36

The difference is that our government is supporting what is happening in Gaza, maybe not overtly so as of now, as they have actually recently denounced it, but they still haven’t banned the sale of weapons to Israel or put any sanctions in place. The public can see this hypocrisy.

@Nanalisa60 I wish more people here did care about atrocities elsewhere in the world. It's not Antisemitism to call for our government to stop supporting one of our country's supposed allies in a campaign of bombing, ground assaults, restrictions on aid, oppression and suspected war crimes that could constitute genocide. It's not Antisemitism to say I don't support my taxes funding the weapons killing people I care about. The religion of the person shooting the gun killing my friends and colleagues doesn't matter to me, what matters is that they're killing those people and our government is supporting it.

Please, put the antisemitism card back in your pockets, it’s been overplayed to the point it’s damaging real efforts to counter antisemitism.

is that the best you can come up with !! Muslim on Muslim that’s ok put god forbid a Jew defends themselves!! How very dare they.

Dibilnik · 04/03/2024 16:49

It's not Antisemitism to say I don't support my taxes funding the weapons killing people I care about
... except that it sort of is, in the circumstances.

All this horror about soldiers posting a social media photo in a war zone, when they are, errrmmm, in a war zone.

Insensitive? Maybe. But not on the scale of using social media to contact the family and friends of someone you are about to torture and mutilate to death.

Make no mistake, war is horrible. But how fucking dare anyone not living in Israel, not subject to the threat they endure, make comments about what our taxes will support, when "the people I care about" is so clearly one-sided.

I apologise I didn’t phrase that appropriately, it didn’t convey respect or the seriousness of what is an important and sensitive topic.
The word antisemitism has been applied in my opinion to many situations where it is unwarranted, and that is rendering the word almost meaningless, which is worrying because of the very real rise in antisemitism.
I am sorry if you truly believe that people are upset because they dislike and treat Jews differently, but the differential factor here is that our government has been supporting the actions of Israel. I appreciate you may be genuinely unable to see that.

@Dibilnik in this case, the people I'm referring to as people I care about are not an abstract idea or a broad demographic. I'm talking about people I've worked alongside, had coffee with, socialised with, met their families, shared in their joys and sadnesses, people I exchanged birthday and holiday greetings with.

These were my friends.

Actual personal friends and colleagues.

Who have been killed by a force supported by the government that my taxes go to.

Is it Anti-semitic to want people to stop killing my friends, if any of them are still alive at this point?
