I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

Having said that, some will be sadistic psychopaths who are having a great time.

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 10:27

Now that some posters have finally seen sufficient evidence to prove that the photo is what we said it was from the start, have they any comment on the behaviour of the soldiers?

anotherlevel · 04/03/2024 10:38

@ConnieCounter Tumbleweed...

More tumbleweeds.....

Auvergne63 · 04/03/2024 12:06

Their silence is deafening, isn't it?

Very.

anotherlevel · 04/03/2024 12:43

I'm pretty sure they've been active on other threads so they would have seen this too.

Humdingerydoo · 04/03/2024 12:43

I'm genuinely confused, where is the proof "that the photo is what we said it was from the start"? Are you basing it on the photographer saying something about how he doesn't think the female soldiers are normally based in the area? Is that the supposed definitive proof or have I missed another post about it?

Not saying it wasn't a selfie with Gaza in the background, just not sure what proof exactly it is you're expecting people to respond to.

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 12:46

People were disputing that it's a photo taken with ruined Gaza in the background. Now that we've established that it is in fact a photo of soldiers taking a selfie with ruined Gaza in the background I thought they might want to contribute to the thread rather than just dispute the veracity of the photo.

Wasn't the argument that there wasn't proof Gaza is actually in the photo? That the actual photo may very well just be their faces? Is there new proof of any of that or have you just declared victory in an argument without actually establishing any facts?

I personally find soldiers taking silly group photos (silly as in pulling faces) while presumably on active duty quite distasteful, but I'm still unclear why you think you've won some kind of argument without providing any further proof in your favour.

Scirocco · 04/03/2024 13:11

It doesn't really matter that much whether they framed the shot to show as much of the background as possible or focused on their faces. What matters is that, while in that place, knowing and seeing the destruction around them and the loss of innocent lives, they thought "Selfie Time!".

It is sickening to think that what is effectively a graveyard of crushed and trapped bodies, including quite possibly the bodies of people I personally knew, is disrespected in this way.

It is sickening to see people try to make excuses for it.

Read the thread.

Read the thread.

I did. It seems you were having a completely different discussion than the people you were having that discussion with.

PeasfullPerson · 04/03/2024 13:23

Don’t be gaslight by that comment @ConnieCounter

Don’t be gaslight by that comment @ConnieCounter

Why am I not surprised by this comment.

Pretty sure Connie can stand up for themselves and doesn't need your input. If my comment was incorrect, they are presumably quite capable of explaining why that is.

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 13:37

I don't care about whatever it is you're trying to do. You expressed your thoughts on the photo and that's all I was interested in.

Humdingerydoo · 04/03/2024 13:40

Ok so there was no "sufficient evidence" as per your previous post for people to respond to? Great, that's all I wanted to clarify. So all the tumbleweed comments were completely unwarranted.

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 13:44

I mean you can read the thread and look at the photos which are proof enough for everyone else, or you can continue to do whatever it is you're doing here. I can't really find any other way to explain it to you in a way that you can understand so I'm having to repeat myself.

PeasfullPerson · 04/03/2024 13:48

@Humdingerydoo and it doesn’t surprise me that you are on here twisting words and talking absolute nonsense.

I’m sure they can stand up for themselves, but if you are going to continue with this nonsense you insist on then you can expect me to call you out on it.

It would be better if you could stick to the points of discussion instead of consistently getting personal and whipping up word salad.

Well done for at least saying the photo was distasteful.

Humdingerydoo · 04/03/2024 13:55

So to summarise, the "sufficient evidence" referred to is the same evidence as was presented 15 pages earlier ie not sufficient evidence at all as that was the whole point of the discussion in the first place. So the other posters can stop with the whole "tumbleweed" and "silence is deafening" thing then as there's actually nothing new for anyone to respond to 👍🏻

Don't worry, no need for you to reply as I would hate for you to have to repeat yourself again.

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 13:57

The lengths people here go to to defend the IDF would be almost sweet if there weren't so much genocide and war crimes involved.

Neither of these have been proved, so I think you're getting a bit in front of yourself here.

ConnieCounter · 04/03/2024 14:07

Not in court yet, no, but I've seen many many instances with my own eyes so it's my opinion that both are happening.

I think if an organisation or country is carrying out acts that mean people have to ask "is this a war crime? does this currently meet the legal definition of genocide?" then that organisation or country is probably doing things that aren't really ok.

Would it help if the post were re-phrased to say 'alleged genocide' and 'alleged war crimes'? Personally, I'd struggle to defend an organisation or country carrying out acts that warrant those allegations.

So, will your 'opinion' have any weight in court? Are you saying they'll call you as a witness?
That's interesting.
