I know there are lots of pictures. I try to avoid looking as its just so awful but this one couldn't be avoided.

How sickening that the soldiers can smile and act so happy in front of all that destruction.

This is just another picture, from the thousands, that shows how the Palestinians and their lives and homes are seen as worthless.

Where was your moral outrage when pictures of rocket launchers in schools were shown?

things I see on the pic of the idf member in the crib :

there was once a baby that used to live there
thst baby is now death or displaced and probably not allowed to go back to the house
the child probably has lost a family member

someone that works for the army , should respect other people, they’re not there to kill civilians. Instead of respecting them they find any occasion to take the piss of the people that once used to live there.

Because of this I can’t respect IDF and believe they’re trying their best to protect civilians

Just to balance this, does anyone have a picture of the young Jewish woman who was raped and driven around on display with her legs apart on October 11th?

I also think you mean Shani Louk. Shani Louk was not Jewish. She was a German-Israeli. Her father was Jewish and her mother Christian. Shani had not chosen either religion. She was probably raped as well as beaten and murdered.

Saw a photo the other day of a 16 year old boy shot by a sniper in West Bank. First bullet in the leg, second in the head as he tried to get up. It's clear that the IDF are acting with impunity.

Yes and I saw a photo of a 14 year old girl shot in the head by a sniper while out looking for water. Another video of a 20yr old woman with a 3 year old boy, both shot by a sniper in the road while looking for food. The 20yr old was killed instantly. The sniper had to shoot the 3yr old toddler a few times to kill him. Finally, a video of a mother shot by a sniper going through a checkpoint while holding the hand of her 5yr old child. She went down like a sack of bricks, and he started to panic and cry and clutch at her body.

The story behind the photo

Thanks for the update on the photo. It explains how the photo was made and where it was taken. Still doesn't take away from the fact that taking a photo with the destruction of Gaza as a background is distasteful and inappropriate to say the least.

Molymoly · 03/03/2024 19:48

@anotherlevel totally agree.

ssd · 03/03/2024 20:01

I agree too. I'd imagine most young people would be looking at Gaza in horror, not taking a friendly selfie.

But i guess we don't know the circumstances as we weren't there.

Thank God.

I agree. That explanation just means that they went out of their way to look at the destruction of Gaza and take a selfie of themselves in front of the horror of it which is pretty grotesque. I wonder how they captioned it on social media.

stomachamelon · 03/03/2024 20:50

@anotherlevel look at the position of the camera and the girl taking it.
I personally think the only thing in that picture is a row of faces.
The camera is pointing toward them and down.
The story is in the picture of the picture.

So why go up the hill overlooking Gaza just to take it?

It's quite obvious from that link you posted what they were doing up there and it wasn't taking a photo of just their faces

anotherlevel · 03/03/2024 21:18

Exactly, they could have taken a selfie anywhere so why make the effort of going up that hill if it wasn't to have Gaza as their background?

PeasfullPerson · 03/03/2024 21:19

If they aren’t intentionally revelling in this horror, then with their young minds they could be viewing it as a day trip, a chance to look at something extraordinary. If that is the case, then this picture to me captures their disconnection from the reality of the situation, and from the suffering in Gaza. It’s disturbing either way.

stomachamelon · 03/03/2024 21:37

@EasterIssland I honestly hadn't seen that one so I apologise and I will ask them to withdraw my comment.
Knowledge is power and all that.

No need to apologise or remove your previous comment. I don’t think these women realise what is really happening behind them

ssd · 03/03/2024 22:42

Of course they know exactly whats happening!

Agree. I mean, they're the ones doing it.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 03/03/2024 23:18

A group of soldiers don't know what's happening? Really?

EasterIssland · 04/03/2024 07:22

Apologies if my comment came across like that. I’ve said it many times I don’t think many of idf members should be in the war. They keep proving to us that to them war is like a game rather something serious where innocent people are dying because of their actions. They’re pretending to be naive when they’re part of the problem

I agree I also think if you are a foot soldier being told by your commanders that what you are doing is right and just, listening to the constant dehumanisation of these people so you will go out and kill, you are stuck in that bubble and will act accordingly. It is when they go home, are back to their lives away from this that it will start to sink in and the magnitude of what they were involved in may take effect. On some level I feel sorry for them

ssd · 04/03/2024 09:45

Oh jesus i dont

whatsitcalledwhen · 04/03/2024 09:49

@Dulra

Dehumanisation of terrorists, sure, I can see how that would be easy to give into.

Dehumanisation of tens of thousands of children? Children dying in hospitals? Children lying under rubble for days starving to death? Children lying next to their dead family members waiting to die? Nah.

PeasfullPerson · 04/03/2024 09:54

I agree @Dulra I believe that a large proportion of these soldiers will suffer from mental health issues as a result of this, and that this will impact their families and wider society.

It’s a very human thing to assume that we cannot be easily led to commit horrible acts, and that there must be something different and fundamentally wrong with people who do, because it’s comforting to believe that we would never do something like that.

But history has shown us time and time again how large groups of people can be encourage to demonise a population and commit atrocities against them.
