There's one! Sort of...

Adjective - Zionist
Comparative - Zioner
Superlative- Zionest.

What they're chanting is.
"Judaism yes,
Zionism no,
The state of Israel has to go."

Interesting to hear how they would square that circle.

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2024 22:06

The state of Israel has to go

They are certainly getting far more open that that's what they want. Remember when they were arguing that 'from the river to the sea' wasn't about a desire to get rid of Israel?

Yeah, course it wasn't.

etmoiandme · 17/02/2024 23:04

Exactly Giraffe. Last week's Houthi-love must seem so passé to them this week, now they've realised they can skip right to the bit where they openly call for the eradication of the only Jewish state. These twats (who know fuck all about the Judaism and Zionism they're 'singing' about) are perfectly happy to wear their antisemitism on their sleeves - however coded - because we're fair game now. It's hate speech pure and simple.

But apparently a bloody thread title is more offensive. Absolutely done now.

To paraphrase the much maligned bob monkhouse....did they laugh at you when you said you'd be a comedian when you grew up, cos nobody's laughing now.

SomeCatFromJapan · 17/02/2024 23:54

It comes across as arrogant when you call young people who hold views different to yours as "Twats"

It's more than okay to refer to people calling for the eradication of Israel as twats.

It's equally okay to condemn as twats those protesting a play because a Jewish woman is performing in it.

And it is certainly twattery to attack an Iranian man holding a sign pointing out that Hamas are terrorists.

It may also not have occurred to you that some of the posters on this thread are Jewish and frightened by the huge rise in anti-Semitism.

etmoiandme · 17/02/2024 23:55

Young people - yet old enough to know better - calling for the destruction of Israel on the streets of London? Yes, they're twats.

You seem to call people arrogant a lot on here don't you? @Itoosurvive

0palfrootee · 18/02/2024 08:32

The fact that those girls prefaced their appalling chant with "Judaism yes" is entirely irrelevant, not some kind of antisemitism "get out of jail.free" card. Judaism is a religion. Not all Jews are religious. Jewishness is an ethnicity and most Jews, regardless of their religious views (I believe it is around 80%) are also Zionists. That is why when you switch the word "Jew" for "Zionist" you are still.being antisemitic. It is not OK to call for the eradication of the world's only Jewish state.

As an aside, there are plenty of ACTUAL colonialist settler countries that you could focus your ire on if that's your issue. No shortage of war torn ones either. And don't come at me with accusations of what-aboutery - it's perfectly legitimate, especially in the context of this discussion, to ask why your hatred is focused on Israel above all other countries.

0palfrootee · 18/02/2024 08:33

And yes they are twats! In fact I'd probably use a stronger term than that.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/02/2024 09:07

"The State of Israel has to go"? Do they for one moment stop to think what it means?

TikTok activism at it's finest.

And it's perfectly legitimate to march in the UK to call on the UK government to stop supporting a government that is currently killing thousands of children. MPs will be voting on a second parliamentary motion calling for an “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza next week so it makes perfect sense that people march this weekend to let their views on the issue known. The hatred of most is directed at Netanyahu and his government.

0palfrootee · 18/02/2024 09:34

The hatred of most is directed at Netanyahu and his government

Not sure how you can say that with any certainty. The loudest voices seem to be united in their hatred of Jews Zionists and the fact of Israel's existence.

mids2019 · 18/02/2024 09:41

With regard to the Palestinian flag being openly and in numbers being flown I think there is a concern. Currently at least in Gaza the Palestinian nascent state is intimately connected to its ruling government i.e. the terrorist group Hamas. It could therefore be argued that currently Gaza is a 'terror state' and people are openly flying the flag of such a state without any real thought to its connotations. If in the future there is universally recognised Palestinian state democratically governed with extremely importantly an absolute rejection of terrorism then the Palestinian flag may not be met with questions when displayed in this country.

Currently though the current government of the Palestinian people has not only refused to reject terrorism but has promised similar attacks for that of October 7th in future. Any flags that could be implied to support such governance has to be questioned when looking at these marches in terms of creating a culture of fear towards Jewish people.

It is therefore right as happened at my daughter's school pupils are asked to remove the Palestinian flag pinned to their uniform and I admire the strength of conviction of teachers to uphold this rule.

At the moment we have 250 000 people marching in London displaying the symbolism of a state that is governed and supported by a heinous terrorist group. Are Jewish people not supposed to be concerned about this?

I agree the loudest most extreme voices are the ones that get noticed but there are many many moderate rational voices that are there but getting drowned out. I am not for a minute downplaying the growth in antisemitism but I still believe in people's right to protest

Offwiththecircus · 18/02/2024 09:48

Well I went.

Arrived Hyde Park Corner around 1:30 I think - march had started later than first planned from Marble Arch due to police requests/instructions I learned later. So I saw all of it apart from the very beginning which had passed just before I arrived.

On arrival I did see a man inside the wall of Hyde Park Corner with blood running from his nose being tended to by some police community folk but have no idea what that was about/what the cause was. No police there or trouble.

It was a very big march - definitely tens tens of thousands - took maybe an hour to pass. After it had I joined it, though didn't get quite as far as the Israeli embassy. Which you can't get to of course anyway as it is effectively in a broad private avenue which can be closed at will.

Signs I saw as it passed. Mostly hand-made though some from particular organisations.

Free Palestine

End Israeli state terror

Some signs referenced apartheid

Ceasefire now

Stop killing children

Free Palestine end apartheid

Boycott israeli dates

Some guy at Hyde Park Corner standing on the wall with a sign saying "Jesus will return as a military figure" amongst other things and with a sound system of extremely eclectic tunes, one sounded like a Scottish jig to me.
(have no idea what that was about - but this is london)

Stop the war on Gaza

Stop arming israel

Stop arming war criminals

Sunak corrupt Starmer a coward

One or two I seem to recall condemning Biden for arms sales

Ceasefire now

End the siege

Stop Gaza genocide

Ceasefire now/free the hostages

Queers against colonialism

No amount of proaganda can disguise genocide

Shropshire and telford tuc

Climate activists for a free palestine

Christians for Palestine - blessed are the peacemakers

The right side of history (with a pic of Mandela)

Stop killing children

From the river to the sea Palestine will be free

Librarians against genocide

Peace

Climbers for Palestine

Various local regional groups

Lots of palestinian flags

Only other flag I saw was a single union jack

Jews against ethnic cleansing - expel the ambassador - uk politicians stop endorsing war crimes

Jewish network for palestine

Fuck Rishi Sunak

Jews against genocide

Jews for justice for Palestinians

International jewish anti zionist network

Shame on Sunak Starmer

My mother (pic of) survived the holocaust but died ashamed of Israel's actions in her name

Big pics
Starmer for Genocide
Angela of death
(latter Starmer's deputy/sidekick/photo opp partner)

A Jew for justice for Palestine

Jewish newtork for palestine (sic)

Various signs from local groups of one sort or another from all round the country - not just London and its boroughs.

I saw not a single sign I would describe as anti semitic nor anything supporting a banned organisation.

The entire march I saw (the vast vast part of it) was entirely peaceful.

A fair amount of children - some walking/some in prams.

I saw no Jewish people harassed.

Of course I wouldn't necessarily know that someone was Jewish but since I saw no-one harassed I saw no Jewish folk harassed.

Presumably the several/a lot of folks I saw declaring themselves to be Jewish actually were though. They were not harassed.

On returning I saw the BBC report.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68326846

Includes this quote

"The protest faced criticism from Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy, who accused the march of being "another antisemitic hate parade through London".

On the basis of what I saw that is absolutely not true. In fact it is so far from what I observed that it is hard to see it as anything more than a deliberate pre-conceived lie. I have no idea where he was when he wrote that. But definitely couldn't have been anywhere near the march I saw. Can someone tell me where he was? In Israel? In the bar of the Israeli embassy?

Pro-Palestinian march in London on 17 February 2024

Tens of thousands at pro-Palestinian march in London

The march calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza war is making its way to the Israeli embassy.

Have they not lost enough? And now you want to take their flag? I really don't think that will solve anything.

I believe in the right to protest too but the demonstrators tried to silence the Iranian man protesting against Hamas.

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 18/02/2024 09:54

Do the individuals shouting ceasefire now actually think that if the UK government ask for a ceasefire then it will happen. The naivety of these people. The UK has no power in this matter.

I want the hostages to be released, hamas to go and the war to stop. Mediation is vital from 3rd parties in the ME.

mids2019 · 18/02/2024 09:55

@Offwiththecircus

Hmmm....curious....

if there were calls for a ceasefire were there may explicit calls for Hamas to lay down their weapons and renounce terrorism? It takes two to fight and two to lay down arms for a ceasefire......

That was one incident out of tens of thousands of people that were there. I think Offwiththecircus provided a very thorough account of what she witnessed and the huge cross section of people that were there.

Edited

What's your point? So you wouldn't bother marching that's fine, tend of thousands obviously think it is worth it

That was before the demo bit I saw but have seen some film - it appeared to be on Park Lane with the "Iranian man" behind the railings in Hyde Park.
Point of fact - SOME of the people on the demo , a small number - I thought I also saw others on the demo trying to pull THOSE doing that back.
It was a very big demo as you are no doubt aware. London is free and anyone can turn up.

mids2019 · 18/02/2024 09:57

@ABCDEFGHIJK123456

good point.....if all these people question Britain's foreign policy they should write to MPs. We are a democracy after all.

unfortunately they take to the streets with signs and chants that only in reality add to a culture of increased anti Jewish feeling.
