@Myothercarisareliantrobin it's Elyon Levy. Israeli Government spokesman for the October 7th War.

I'm afraid I didn't know that.

In that case, it seems like a very nasty placard produced by some very nasty people.

It shows how deep antisemitism goes in our (UK) society.

stomachamelon · 17/02/2024 18:32

@Myothercarisareliantrobin looks like they did try at least.
London is a scary place to be at the Moment.

One sign showed on Al Jazerra blamed the US for 7th Oct. Another called for Intifada. I couldn't possibly march alongside hatred like that.

Why don't they call for peace, release of hostages and hamas to step aside for the good of the Palestinian people? That is what peace wanting people want.

@Dulra "Many of the women posting on these threads aren't capable of that yet"

Aren't capable of what?

That's sexism if ever I saw it.

@Myothercarisareliantrobin I had no intention of being sexist if you had read the post I was responding to it would have provided better context.

I said women because I was replying to:
There were peace rallies in Northern Ireland organised by women from both sides.
which describing an action taken by women. I do feel some posters on here would not be able for this yet

Yes. Why are they not marching for that. They can still wear their scarves so we know they are " not bad people"

Not sure if this has been posted....

Bloody hell that is awful.

I do wonder if those who confidently assert that they would tackle any offensive placards at these protests would actually recognise them though.

stomachamelon · 17/02/2024 19:32

@noblegiraffe I am glad you said that not me Wink

This has gone too far.

As I understand it the Met Police are funded by Central Government.

That means that the tax-payer pays for policing these marches. That's you and me.

We have people using foodbanks and yet the Government is paying so that these 'useful idiots' can wander around Central London waving flags and chanting stuff that half of them don't understand.

I'm not happy with that and will be letting my MP know. I would respectfully suggest that others do the same.

The Home Office needs to stop indulging these people. They've had plenty of protests and have made their point.

ABCDEFGHIJK123456 · 17/02/2024 20:14

It's scary what some have to say. They want death, who would march with these radical individuals

The only purpose of these endless marches is to intimidate British Jews (part two)

It’s an insulting thread title.

Some may construe it as offensive to the marchers to claim that they are only out on the streets to frighten the Jewish population of Britain.

To insinuate that those hundreds of thousands who are marching, are not doing so because they object to human beings maiming and killing one another could also be seen as insulting. Additionally, to suggest that they are not marching to tell their government that they abhor its stance on the conflict, and to imply that they are not marching to show solidarity with a group of people who have had the rough end of life for too long could also be construed as being even more offensive.

To think that people are on the street simply to antagonise British Jewry could be interpreted as conceit and arrogance, sprinkled with a delusion of self importance. Anyone concurring with the thread title and believing that tens of thousands care more about upsetting British Jews than the conflict would best be advised to give their head a wobble.

These marches aren’t all about upsetting British Jewry; they’re about the Israeli government, our government and the Palestinian people.

The thread title is both provocative and false.
And I say all of this as someone who has had a Bamitzvah, kept strictly kosher for the first two decades of their life and has, thanks to Maccabi, turned into a fine table tennis player.

Many others are unhappy that their taxes are funding Israel, one of the reasons many are marching. You can write to your mp about your issue with the marches and they are free to march that's what living in a democracy allows you the right to do and I for one would not want to live in a country that denies these rights.

Edited

The thread title came from a Daily Mail article and I think the point of the thread was to debate the title.
I think the marches are too one sided as anyone who attempts to condemn Hamas or publicise the plight of the hostages on the March is at risk of being abused. I think the marches are therefore intimidating for many British Jews . I don’t agree with the title from the Daily Mail in as much as I don’t think the majority of marchers main aim is to intimidate British Jews. I just think the intimidation is something most of the participants don’t care about . If they did care about peace and justice for both communities they would be ok with placards condemning Hamas and asking for the release of the hostages.

@EllaDisenchanted what a shame they couldn't do the one thing they were asked and then say it's not about antisemitism and Jew hate.

@Dulra "Many others are unhappy that their taxes are funding Israel, one of the reasons many are marching. "

Well, I must have got the wrong end of the stick. I thought the marches were to support Palestine.
I don't live in London but people I know who live here tell me there aren't any placards saying 'don't fund Israel'.
I wasn't aware that our taxes were ' funding Israel' 🤔

Comparative - Zioner
Superlative- Zionest.

I said one of the reasons people are marching not the only reason, it is all intertwined with the anger people have with the UK government continuing their support.

This article is from two years ago but outlines some of the military support people are objecting to.

Yes it can but not in relation to UK support to Israel it really isn't a secret so I'm unsure why you're so surprised by it

Do you honestly know what you are talking about?

If you are going to post 'facts' you could make sure they are not out of date.

Limeandsodaontherocks · 17/02/2024 21:57

In response to Dulra’s post
I don’t understand this argument. It seems inconsistent.
I understand why people might object to UK selling arms but you have to be consistent. The UK supplies arms to lots of countries-many are countries with a terrorist record on human rights. It seems odd that the marchers are ONLY concerned about arms going to Israel ( a country surrounded by terrorist threat)
Perhaps I’ve misunderstood

Limeandsodaontherocks · 17/02/2024 21:59

That should say “terrible record” not “terrorist record “ 😣
