Horrors of violence towards women on October the 7th suppressed

It looks like the UN may have been reluctant to investigate or highlight the sickening sexual violence committed on October 7th. It also appears some of the hostages may have been abused.

Was this because the horrendous violence doesn't fit in with that purely Palestinians are victims of this ongoing conflict? Are investigations into these crimes because women are viewed as second class citizens or the revelations 'muddy the waters' where some just want to see one side as the victim.

An Israeli campaigner says militants planned acts of sexual violence committed in October's attack.

There is undeniable, corroborated evidence for the rape and abuse and murder that took place on 7th October.

What you are referring to is highly questionable. Even if such things took place and some soldiers went rogue and abused their position(and I've never heard of this), it was not done systematically at the instigation of the government. Hamas is deliberately using rape as a weapon of war.

I’m starting to detect a slight hint of hypocrisy here….
A victims testament is proof enough. Except when it isn’t.

So you don't believe the Israeli women.

And you are suggesting that the IDF's actions in some way compare to those of Hamas. For which you've given no evidence.

The mind boggles.

I think too many men have some idea in their heads of Grade 1 crimes (murder) and Grade 2 crimes (everything else), and they genuinely believe that rape is exactly the same as any other form of GBH.

This is why sexual violence is seen by so many in power as not particularly worth investigating as a separate war crime. I think pretty much all women understand the reality of it in a completely fundamental way.

Yes, men don’t see it as important. They just do not.

There’s never been a rapeless war or conflict ever, so it’s ridiculous really to think Hamas did/is doing no rape. As laughable as saying the IDF did/is doing no rape.

To most men, the ones that are honest and don’t prevaricate and do lip service, it’s like being shocked that people get shot with real bullets and children get blown up with bombs during a war. They have a so what? Get over it attitude.

I don’t agree with this, but that’s the world we live in, not the world we should have.

@TwilightSkies derailing why? Does the topic make you uncomfortable?

There is a clear agenda to prevent these Hamas threads from being a place for constructive debate.
Why on earth some just cannot condemn the terrorists, without any proviso, I dread to think.

Silence1 · 05/12/2023 18:10

And of course the IDF is not opposed to allowing its own soldiers to be raped by prisoners. Ex-soldier: My commanders 'handed me over' to be raped by jailed terror convict | The Times of Israel

No, I meant complaining that Israeli women should be believed but Palestinian women shouldn’t be believed is hypocritical.

@Docmcstuffins2020 can you link to 'thousands of women make that complaint about the IDF' please? Verify it for me with individual accounts and footage? Or just the headcam worn by the IDF soldiers will be ok. For the thousands....

Israel was the subject of a brutal day of massacre. Whether they should have seen it coming or not, plastered it all over twitter with close ups of corpses, people crying and screaming whilst they scrapped the bodies up is their choice. People forget that bodies have to be buried all together if possible and ideally within 24 hours. People are inflicted their idea of what Israel should or shouldn't do or the PR game it should play because THEY demand answers. How rude.

Independent news teams where in Israel. Jeremy Bowen was with the IDF and reported. Matt frei was there. Ghoulish behaviour wanting them peering over the bodies. Would that make it ok then?

The Un have already released a statement. It's done. No question. Shame on you that you would doubt a woman whose pelvis has been broken? Or says she has been raped. Yeah #metoo... except when your Jewish

You are wishing for an echo chamber, debates involve back and forth of differing opinions.

Which terrorists are you referring to? The Israeli army they is committing genocide??

@MercanDede
The thread title is quite clear.

Debate around whether and indeed why some of the details of what happened to these women in 7 October has been suppressed/downplayed, etc

But what about....... is not debate

Depdawg · 05/12/2023 18:24

Look up the definition of terrorists.
The clue is in the word.

I was unaware the Israeli army had been designated as a terrorist organisation

Did I miss that?

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/12/2023 18:24

Well this thread has gone on a very predictable direction, hasn't it?

Some people are really uncomfortable with acknowledging how bad Hamas actually are.

Anotherdayanotherdiet · 05/12/2023 18:25

It is though.
We’ve got the ‘I NeEd aN iNdePenDaNt SouRcE to VerIfY RaPE’ post

Then a few posts down we’ve got
“can you link to 'thousands of women make that complaint about the IDF' please? Verify it for me with individual accounts and footage? Or just the headcam worn by the IDF soldiers will be ok”

And I guess we’re not meant to notice they contradict each other. * *

For* what’s *its worth I do believe that the hostages were treated badly because look who took them hostage. The people who’d just committed mass murder. It’s just the whole “oh the IDF never hurt anyone, let’s see you prove it” kinda imply’s some posters don’t care if the victim happens to be Palestinian.
