Conflict in the Middle East

Please do all you can to object to the genocide of Palestinians

It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve seen videos on twitter that are beyond anything I can even begin to describe. Palestinians are being murdered in their thousands and the western media is largely pretending it’s not happening.

The average age of the people who have been killed in Gaza is FIVE years old.

The UK media are not showing how the Israeli government is openly talking about, and cheerleading genocide now. Israeli government speaks about Palestinians as if they are not humans. They are saying women are targets as they can have babies. I’ve just read how, since October 7th they have taken over 5,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and tortured them. They were already routinely arresting Palestinians and taking them away from their family with no reason and no but this is not being adequately reported.

Please, please visit sites such as 972 magazine and declassified uk. The BBC, etc, unfortunately aren’t reporting the extent to what is going on.

Israel and its allies are repurposing the goals and lies of 1948 – in Gaza in 2023

Israel is openly carrying out ethnic cleansing inside Gaza, driving Palestinians outside their homeland as happened in 1948. And yet, just as during the first “Nakba”, Israel's lies and deceptions dominate the West’s media and political narrative.

@Decisiontimenow 11,000 children have been killed in Yemen since the start of that conflict so not untypical at all.

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 23:06

@LemonAidG how do you know its routed in anti Muslim sentiment?

Is it possible to get @MNHQ to create a safe space for Muslim MNetters? I think that might allow for threads expressing sympathy and condolences for the Palestinians without having it detailed and worse having the deaths of innocents justified.

I believe is what you posted?

LemonAidG · 21/11/2023 23:06

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 23:02

@LemonAidG there is not one thread in the Jewish Mumsnetters topics dedicated to the fact they feel Israel is in the right. The only one is ' anyone with family in Israel.... are they safe?'
I would absolutely welcome that for Palestinians if those issues relating to Gaza and the West Bank presented themselves. Content on Gaza conflict as a whole needs to stay on the conflict pages where it can be debated. And it is robustly either side.
Failing that, as with the Jewish pages, all are welcome.

It is an open forum. But do you not see how bad these threads can be derailed.

Humdingerydoo · 21/11/2023 23:07

LemonAidG · 21/11/2023 23:04

I am of Indian Muslim origin- that is S.Asian. But S.Asian also includes Hindus, Sikhs and Muslins from the region.

I know, my dad is an Indian Jew :) Plenty of different religions there. I was just trying to (really clumsily) explain why I thought you weren't Muslim.

I hope a Muslim board is opened for you soon. I'm sorry you feel it's needed though. I know it doesn't mean much, but I really don't hold any anti-Muslim sentiment.

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 23:07

@OuiOuiKitty and yet the leaders of Hamas sit in Qatar in opulent wealth watching them..... their own people.
As are most Arab countries.
Why is that do you think?

You think I can't identify anti Muslim rhetoric from my lived experience as a Muslim woman?

Lifesd · 21/11/2023 23:08

Are these threads being derailed or are posters just objecting to people voicing an opinion that what is happening is not as black and white and god vs evil as is being made out?

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 23:08

@LemonAidG absolutely I do. But it happens both ways sadly.

LemonAidG · 21/11/2023 23:11

@Stomacharmeleon Exactly but right now the Muslims have been forgotten on MN. The derailment by pro Israel posters, and the pile on that we get on these threads makes it apparent.

Delphinium20 · 21/11/2023 23:12

@OuiOuiKitty Hiroshima and Nagasaki come to mind when I think swift ferocity. Roughly 200,000 dead in two days. But, again, we don't call out the US for Japanese genocide, despite the absolute horrific nature of these civilian deaths, who had NO warning.

Barbarism comes to mind when I think Hamas. Getting up close and shooting a baby, shooting a woman as you rape her, kidnapping elderly women and then calling your mom to brag about it.

I'm not defending all things done by Israel, but words should have some shared meaning and this talk of genocide just isn't accurate. If you think shouting it will get attention to end the war, maybe? But I also think it serves to reinforce propaganda from both sides - and religious/nationalist propaganda is what got the middle east into this hot mess in the first place.

Reallifelurker · 21/11/2023 23:12

Argh this is still problematic!! Why would you assume all Muslims want to discuss Gaza?? Or that only Muslims want to discuss Gaza?

I'm not even remotely opposed to there being a Muslim Mumsnetters topic, I just disagree that it's needed purely because of what's happening in Gaza. I'm sure Muslims have other things to talk about too

I doubt discussion of Gaza/Israel would be made mandatory.

Decisiontimenow · 21/11/2023 23:13

@Delphinium20 because the context is different. It is specifically because of the unprecedented numbers of civilians being murdered-67% women and children.

It is because the stated goal of several government officials (not fringe lunatics although them too) has been to annex Gaza, to ethnically cleanse the area of Palestinians. The US actually approached the neighbouring Arab states in October for them to take in the refugees from Gaza and rehome them. It was not accepted for many reasons including because Israel does not allow a right of return to Palestinians. But this highlights how far along that plan had gone.
IDF Soldiers are posting videos planting the Israeli flag all over Gaza celebrating their victory.

It is because the language used is deemed to convey genocidal intent- they are not people they are “human animals” (repeated by several officials”. A biblical verse ‘Amalek’ was invoked by Netanyahu which speaks about killing every man woman child and animal…

It is because the utter destruction of Gaza will leave it uninhabitable (genocide also pertains to destruction of culture and homeland)

It is because the inhuman siege which is blocking food and clean water is seeing a population of 1.7million displaced peoples who are starving, left vulnerable to spread of diseases which will also kill them. For reference the outbreak of epidemics in concentration camps killed a colossal number last century.

It is because experts on genocide are recognising the signs in Gaza and asking us to act. Journalists like NYT Chris Hedges who covered Yugoslavia, Israeli historian Ilan Pappe, Israeli journalist Amira Hass… these are a few names who I’ve read recently who have expressed their fears of genocide.

Rachna83 · 21/11/2023 23:14

@mnhq I think a Muslim mumsnetters board would be a good step. A lot of these threads go round in circles with the same posters trying to put across the same things and narratives. It would be nice to have a board where we can say how sad and horrified we are at what is happening and not be met with posters trying to justify the same.

Humdingerydoo · 21/11/2023 23:15

I explained in subsequent posts that I thought this was a non-Muslim poster asking for it. That was the only reason I even reacted at all. If I hadn't mistakenly thought they had specifically mentioned not being Muslim earlier, I honestly wouldn't have even mentioned it. Literally makes no difference to my life.

Decisiontimenow · 21/11/2023 23:16

@Lifesd did that conflict also start five weeks ago?

Delphinium20 · 21/11/2023 23:16

Well, so Jordan is finally doing something! Good.

The US actually approached the neighbouring Arab states in October for them to take in the refugees from Gaza and rehome them. It was not accepted for many reasons including because Israel does not allow a right of return to Palestinians.

Yes AND the neighboring Arab states also have refused Palestinians entry for a time now because they fear Hamas terrorism in their countries. **

Who knows. Doesn't stop Israel being genocidal though, they've told us and shown us that.

Yes, the US wanted them to help facilitate ethnic cleansing. They said no.

And also because they would be seen to be assisting Israel with Israel's ethnic cleansing plans.

Apparently they asked Egypt and offered to write off their national debt but they refused.

Yes they are doing something and Israel's actions are a threat to us all Jordan says it won’t sign energy and water exchange deal with Israel | Israel-Palestine conflict News | Al Jazeera

Jordan says it won’t sign energy and water exchange deal with Israel

Top diplomat says Amman’s priority is to end ‘Israel’s barbarism in Gaza’, which can no longer be seen as self-defence.

The word 'Amalek’ is so disturbing, how have politicians not called him up on such rhetoric? How is that always conveniently left out by pro Israel supporters?

Rachna83 · 21/11/2023 23:30

Because our politicians are pushing one narrative only and holding on to it for dear life. Same with a lot of the posters here who will not acknowledge any other truth.
