It’s just heartbreaking. I’ve seen videos on twitter that are beyond anything I can even begin to describe. Palestinians are being murdered in their thousands and the western media is largely pretending it’s not happening.

The average age of the people who have been killed in Gaza is FIVE years old.

The UK media are not showing how the Israeli government is openly talking about, and cheerleading genocide now. Israeli government speaks about Palestinians as if they are not humans. They are saying women are targets as they can have babies. I’ve just read how, since October 7th they have taken over 5,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and tortured them. They were already routinely arresting Palestinians and taking them away from their family with no reason and no but this is not being adequately reported.

Please, please visit sites such as 972 magazine and declassified uk. The BBC, etc, unfortunately aren’t reporting the extent to what is going on.

I'm not even remotely opposed to there being a Muslim Mumsnetters topic, I just disagree that it's needed purely because of what's happening in Gaza. I'm sure Muslims have other things to talk about too!

It's also important to look at numbers - and as a caveat, I don't think ONE non-Hamas person should have died in Gaza.

The population of Gaza on 10/6 was roughly 2 million. If estimates of 10,000 dead it's a high percentage, but not unheard of in wartime. Northern, out of the way Norway had 3 million population at start of WW2 and lost 8,000 civilians whereas little Latvia had 2 million and lost 220,000 civilians. Neither claimed a genocide....do you see what I'm getting at? ALL deaths are horrific, but wars cause a lot of innocent deaths in the populations unlucky enough to get caught in them, but we usually blame those who started the war, not those who fight back. Also, where the fuck are the Iraqi, Iranian, Jordanian and Saudi Arabian ships coming into harbor in Gaza to rescue the Palestinians? Blame the Arab world for not giving a shit as much as your fellow westerners.

Again I think it’s fine. If they don’t feel safe to speak up or talk about their religion related things without it being detail. Same way Jewish people do have their own board and I find it ok.

It's been a month. Israel are also actively starving Palestinians of food, water and aid. Actively targeting health care facilities and medics so that there is no where for the injured to be helped. It is also estimated that there are 10,000+ people buried under rubble. 20,000+ people in a month?

@Humdingerydoo I'm of Indian Muslim. Of course we have other things to discuss, but currently at least in my circle of friends and family this is a pertinent topic. Amongst all the things id like to discuss the Gaza war is high up there.

You misunderstand, I'm not saying there shouldn't be a board for them. I just don't think there needs to be one just to discuss Gaza. I think it's ridiculous to assume that Muslims don't have other things to talk about to, or that non-Muslims aren't interested in what's happening in Gaza. Honestly, I have zero issue with there being a board for Muslims. It was just the reasoning I objected to. Of course they should be allowed a safe space if that's what they want!

For context 540 children have been killed in Ukraine in 18 months.

I have never heard civilian deaths committed by one side blamed in their entirety on the other until this war. It is totally messed up how many people have bought into it.

@Humdingerydoo These threads are constantly being detailed even when its specifically to show support for Palestinians so maybe us Muslims need a safe space? You can't imagine how I feel that the pro Israel protesters come on and constantly derail. There is zero respect.

But the Gazan people voted these terrorists in. They aren't separate, the Gazan people are paying for hamas' crimes, and hamas' is gladly letting them.

And that's fine! You're allowed to care about whatever you want, obviously. To be honest, I thought you were a non-Muslim poster. That's why I objected to the post - I thought a non-Muslim was implying that Muslims need their own board, and I objected to them speaking on someone else's behalf, I guess.

@Humdingerydoo I've not said it's just to discuss Gaza, but given the derailment of threads and what I see as heartless behaviour and comments in these threads rooted in anti Muslim sentiment, it proves that a safe space would be beneficial. You can imagine that other topics will be discussed but this will surely be one that would be of interest in the community.

Good god, I never said it was okay that children or civilians are dying! I'm just questioning why THIS is being demanded to be called a genocide vs. other military bombardments after a terrorist attack.

@LemonAidG just to explain the misunderstanding, I took this post about your community already having its own board to mean you weren't Muslim, as obviously there isn't a Muslim board (yet).

@LemonAidG there is not one thread in the Jewish Mumsnetters topics dedicated to the fact they feel Israel is in the right. The only one is ' anyone with family in Israel.... are they safe?'
I would absolutely welcome that for Palestinians if those issues relating to Gaza and the West Bank presented themselves. Content on Gaza conflict as a whole needs to stay on the conflict pages where it can be debated. And it is robustly either side.
Failing that, as with the Jewish pages, all are welcome.

Because of the sheer ferocity and barbarinism of Israel. They are starving an entire population to death, they have displaced almost the entire population, they have killed such enormous numbers of innocent people in such a short time. They have clearly stated their genocidal aims, why won't people believe them?

I am of Indian Muslim origin- that is S.Asian. But S.Asian also includes Hindus, Sikhs and Muslins from the region.
