Good afternoon,

This thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/conflict-in-the-middle-east/4931824-placards-from-antisemitic-marches-in-london?reply=130705682&utm_source=brevo&utm_campaign=Mumsnet_Watched_Thread_Notification_New_Talk&utm_medium=email

has reached 1k replies and has been closed as this is the maximum replies possible for a thread.

This topic needs to be kept open especially as now grafitti has been found close to the route taken by Pro Palestinian marchers:

This is absolutely abhorrently anti-semitic.

Police 'actively looking' for individuals over antisemitic signs at pro-Palestinian march

While a march in the capital calling for a ceasefire in Gaza remained largely peaceful, images are circulating on social media showing some protesters having carried antisemitic signs. Sky News has also seen antisemitic graffiti close to the route.

How do you know not one of them challenged them for carrying an antisemitic placard?

A Jewish poster on another thread said they did challenge someone on a placard that was inappropriate last weekend and the protestor in questioned apologised and put it down. I'm Jewish myself and I'd like people to always intervene like that but I can't expect it of everyone, it can take quite a lot of social skill and confidence to do that and not everyone has it.

Regarding the protestor who was on the war memorial, my understanding is that he was asked to get down from it and he did. It's a bit disrespectful but I don't think it is something anyone should be arrested for personally.

I hope they do arrest people with hateful placards or who shouted violent slogans, or anything that supports Hamas. But we can't expect protest organisers to vet every attendee or their placards realistically, and we can't let the possibility of it happening shut down legitimate protest against Israel's actions.

The men being shouted at were Neteuri Karta, they’re only there to cause trouble and division. I don’t personally think anyone should be shouting it at anyone else, but here’s some context for “Judenraete”, although as it’s more words and more complex than a social media soundbite, you may struggle to get through it.

Jewish Councils (Judenraete)

The Germans established Jewish councils (Judenraete) in the ghettos. Forced to implement Nazi policy, council leaders and members faced impossible moral dilemmas.

We need a ceasefire now and this war needs to end.

Yes. I’d love to know what the US and the UK are playing at. Vetoing a ceasefire 🙄

backtowinter · 09/12/2023 13:53

Pro -Palestine rather than pro peace?

I wonder how many marchers will call for Hamas to surrender and release the rest of the hostages.

I don't know about the Americans but Barbara Woodward explained why she abstained

Chants of "globalise the Intifada" in central London is very fucking far from being OK. There is literally nothing 'pro peace' about a call for terrorism, that for some simply means violence against worldwide Jewry.

@Jupitersstorm please change the title of this thread. As another poster has mentioned it is incorrect and inappropriate to call these ‘antisemitic marches’. It’s disrespectful to the hundreds of thousands who attend them each week and who ARE marching for a humanitarian ceasefire and for Palestinian rights.
it you want a thread to discuss placards considered to be anti-Semitic at these events and to discuss anti social behaviors then that’s fine, but it’s totally unfair to slander all the protesters attending them in such a way.

stomachameleon · 09/12/2023 16:21

There are many threads whose titles I don't agree with....

Posters can't change the titles of threads, even if you demand it.

I raised this before on previous threads. There are some posters on here insistent to label the marches as such. Suella type rhetoric.

backtowinter · 09/12/2023 16:26

What's the by issue with the thread title

If you don't believe you've been on an anti semitic march then this won't apply to you.

Yes they can. There's a thread on the conflict in the Middle East that has had theirs changed at the OP's request.

Yes, but it's mumsnet who changed it.

So report it if it bothers you so much. Or just don't click on the thread.

I've just seen this one. The placard calls for a final solution, for anyone who doesn't like to click on twitter links.

These are antisemitic placards of which there have been many, and that's not up for debate to be quite honest. So naturally it follows that some will feel these are "antisemitic marches". And if you don't agree then I would suggest you do a bit of soul searching on your own anti-racism credentials, which so many of you have been proud to boast, not just in this thread but others.

If you don't like the thread title maybe start one of your own to specifically show placards that are calling for peace, destruction of Hamas, ceasefire, etc, etc.
