Are any Palestinians calling for hostage release / Hamas to stop fighting?

This question is not about whether they should or should not be. But if we are hearing all Palestinian voices - it’s so hard to tell from the media. I imagine there must be people who just want it all to stop and don’t think keeping the hostages is in ordinary Gazan’s interests, or who do not support their government but I haven’t heard any - it may well be that I’ve just missed it, but is it something that’s being under reported?

What do you think ceasefire means? It means on both sides

Yes,@NmeChngeFail that is what is means, and that is what Netanyahu rejected.

flashbac · 12/11/2023 12:49

@Certainfailure you understand that the point of these marches is because our appalling government are failing to condemn Israel's murderous actions right? There is no need to add to the voices condemning Hamas as our government have pretty much given its full backing to Israel doing what it wants in its so called war on Hamas.

But you already know that. And judging by your Islamophobia you don't care anyway.

I imagine they will want the release of the 10,000 Palestinian prisoners/hostages as well in exchange...

Teentaxidriver · 12/11/2023 13:33

Flashbac - you do understand that a state has the right of self-defence? You do understand that Israel’s murderous action are in retaliation for the barbarity of Oct 7th?

Unfortunately what the idf are doing goes far beyond self defence in a lot of people's eyes

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 12/11/2023 13:40

Those living in Gaza at the moment aren’t really in a position to make their thoughts known. Those ‘supporting’ the Palestinians are employing an absolutely deafening silence in this regard.

Meadowgrasses · 12/11/2023 15:44

I didn’t phrase my question well, I wasn’t really asking about the poor souls actually in Palestine, of course they are not thinking beyond their own survival. I was wondering about Palestinians in other countries, and those who speak (or claim to) on their behalf?

Thank you for clarifying.

I don't know about Hamas specifically, but in my experience, you don't dare speak too loudly against the dictator as long as you have friends and family still there.
Opinion polls from Gaza appear to confirm that is the case. Which is also why the widely quoted statistic of support for Hamas ought to be taken with a pinch of salt.

@flashbac where are the Palestinians in the UK calling for Hamas to be ousted ?
Where are the placards calling for Hamas to be eliminated at these matches ? For the hostages to be released ? Ironically in Hamas land that poor woman has no rights whatsoever, pretty much a second class citizen and is now used as human shield by despicable terrorists to fight a war.

There was an offer of negotiation early on which the Israeli government refused.

The Israeli government have clamped down on anti war protests in Israel and against the families of the hostages organizing protests.

At this point the hostages are all Gazana have left - it may bring pressure internally on the Israeli gov (though I doubt it). I suspect a lot may died already in the bombing campaign.

I think the Israeli hostages are "collateral damage" for the bigger picture for the Israeli government.

By the way - if every time a Black person commits a crime do you expect all Black people to condem that before advoctaing for their rights?

By the way - if every time a White person commits a crime do you expect all White people to condem that before advoctaing for their rights?

By the way - if every time a (insert whatever and whom ever) person commits a crime do you expect all (insert whatever and whom ever) people to condem that before advoctaing for their rights?

Parkingt111 · 12/11/2023 16:33

Netanyahu has just confirmed another offer refused by Israel not even 3 days. And not even for a large number of hostages. I believe at this point it's more about his own ego

Are any Palestinians calling for hostage release / Hamas to stop fighting?
Wotsitfappe · 12/11/2023 16:55

I reckon if me and my family were dying of starvation and thirst plus dodging bombs I'd just be trying to stay alive like.

Also with the lack of Internet, electricity, phone lines etc I do think there's a limit on how th even do what you are asking about.

Exactly this.
Shockingly 500-700 children detained by the Israeli government every year.

Oh ok that excuses everything. And you spelled Israel wrong.

RudsyFarmer · 13/11/2023 18:33

Wester Palestinian supporters won’t denounce Hamas. Make of that what you will.

MonsieurCrapeau · 13/11/2023 18:38

It’s amazing how little condemnation there is of Hamas. I like to think it’s because it’s so clear they’re awful no condemnation is necessary, but maybe that is naive. Why aren’t the pro-Palestinian protesters calling for the overthrow of Hamas?

andmeandmeandme · 13/11/2023 18:42

@MonsieurCrapeau An Iranian man tried to do just that at the London protest and unfortunately it didn't go well for him.

I condemn Hamas, as many have on these threads, in the strongest of terms. And I think the current Israeli government is far worse than Hamas - words fail to describe the murderous terrorist acts they are committing against the civilian population of Gaza.

You anonymously condemn Hamas on a Mumsnet thread. Great. Watch the public supporters fidget in their seats and fudge the question every time they are asked to condemn the terrorists. Is almost like they’re afraid to.

@RudsyFarmer
Israel is the occupying party in this conflict, and as such it is de facto the aggressor. Therefore any actions from Hamas are by definition "self-defence". I am not saying that means it's ok for Hamas to target civilians. What I am saying is that as occupier, Israel's aggression towards Gaza cannot be called "self-defense". Israel has been bombing Gaza regularly for decades. This conflict did not begin on October 7th.

@Xenia is that last post seriously what you believe?
You do realise you sound like a white supremacist
Although you might not be intending to but that's a very insulting post

Everybody condemned Hamas.

4.000 children dead Palestinian children and god knows how many dead adults later I am still not a supporter of Hamas but also definitely not a supporter of slaughterhouse, barbaric Israeli revenge.
