What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?

why does a mentally disabled child throwing stones deserve to be shot from 150 metres away ? The stones couldn’t have even reached them? They can’t possibly be fearing him, he is by himself, they are tons of them and they have cars and guns. How is this justifiable to all these people going on and on supporting a country where these things go on. How is this a country the west considers a democratic ally? How do these values reflect the values of the west?

I understand the outrage of parents wanting the hostages back but Fouads parents will never ever have him back.

It looks as though they did not mean to kill him but their outrageous, rough, manhandling of this well-known, innocent peace activist, who looks quite old, certainly caused his death.

Is there any apology out forthcoming?

@ScrollingLeaves do you have much experience in riot situations or being under attack? What you 'believe' is frankly irrelevant.

I know perfectly well that you cannot ordinarily hurl blocks, and that is not irrelevant to the fact that the IDF are curating their choice of words to create their narrative.

Haaretz:

Gunfire Here, Aerial Bombing There: Israel Steps Up the Gaza-fication of the West Bank
An Israeli warplane fired missiles into a crowded café in a Palestinian refugee camp, killing 18, including an entire family. Elsewhere, soldiers opened fire at a house of mourning. The West Bank increasingly resembles Gaza (Gideon Levy)

and

"Just a quarter of an hour from the central Israeli city of Netanya, the air force is bombing densely crowded population centers almost indiscriminately [in the West Bank], and this too is by now considered normal, legal and moral, barely meriting coverage in the Israeli media." – Gideon Levy

I saw tgat @Dulra
That man is not just obnoxious, but monstrous. He is emblematic of what is happening.

When reading that report on another thread about the excesses of Israeli prison guards on Palestinian prisoners, based on this man’s attitude, I had the feeling that nothing in that prison report was too awful to ring true.

When people suggest that the Israelis need to carry on this war on Gaza, even after thousands upon thousands of Palestinians killed - because Palestinians want to wipe all Jews out - please take a look at this example of who wants to wipe out whom and in what sort of spirit they mean it.

Defence it is not.

WEST BANK: Hundreds of Israelis tried to break through a military checkpoint in the West Bank city of Hebron and enter a restricted area under IDF order, a security source told Haaretz on Saturday. The source said clashes erupted at the scene, with a number of settlers spitting in the faces of soldiers and throwing stones at Palestinian shops. One person was arrested.

  • The IDF said dozens of settlers threw stones at Israeli forcesnear the West Bank settlement of Itamar, southeast of Nablus, on Saturday. A security source said one of the settlers confronted a Border Police officer, while others obstructed a local road and threw stones at an Arab Israeli civilian. The IDF said five suspects were arrested and added that it condemns instances of violence against its soldiers

……………

Notice how Israeli settler stone throwers are not shot dead by the IDF, but Palestinians who do, including children, are.

Yep. I wonder how many Israel supporters here would be ok with it if the IDF did actually shoot them, the same way they're ok with Palestinian CHILDREN being shot to death for throwing stones. I also wonder if they would be ok with these settlers been imprisoned indefinitely under administrative detention, then tried in military courts with a 99% conviction rate the same way Palestinians, including children, are.

Of course all people who support Israel in its defence are one homogeneous group who all think the same 🙄 its really no point engaging with such black and white childish assumptions

I have seen people here explain how dangerous it is to throw stones, they were teenagers not children …by way of making shooting them seem reasonable.

I have also read countless reports of tge IDF treating stone throwers as though they were armed attackers so shooting them.

Somehow, though, the ethnicity of alleged stone throwers seems to magically impact upon the ability of armed soldiers to distinguish whether or not they need to shoot someone. It's almost like the threat assessments might not be carried out in good faith...

B'Tselem Report: Soldiers Systematically Abusing Palestinians in Hebron

(First two paragraphs)

The human rights organization B'Tselem released a new report on Tuesday on Israel Defense Forces soldiers routinely abusing Palestinian residents in the West Bank city of Hebron.

According to the report, which includes testimony from 25 people, the abuse follows a systematic pattern. Soldiers would grab a random person in the city, usually a young man, and search his cellphone for some pretext to detain him, like pictures from the Gaza Strip or an Arabic-language news site.……….

WB is getting worse

TG

A Palestinian official reported shooting and explosions in the flashpoint West Bank town of Jenin on Wednesday as Israeli forces pressed a raid that the military described as a “counter-terrorism” operation, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“The situation is very difficult,” Kamal Abu al-Rub, the governor of Jenin, told AFP. “The occupation army has bulldozed all the roads leading to the Jenin camp, and leading to the Jenin governmental hospital … There is shooting and explosions,” he added.
On Tuesday, Israeli forces launched an operation in Jenin which Palestinian officials said killed 10 people, just days after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamastook effect in the Gaza Strip.
According to Abu al-Rub, Israeli forces detained about 20 people from villages near Jenin, a bastion of Palestinian militancy.
The Israeli military said it had launched a “counter-terrorism operation” in the area, and had “hit over 10 terrorists”. “Additionally, aerial strikes on terror infrastructure sites were conducted and numerous explosives planted on the routes by the terrorists were dismantled,” it said in a statement on Wednesday. “The Israeli forces are continuing the operation,” it added.

More from TG

Asked about recent events in the occupied West Bank, Jordan’s foreign minister said that “maintaining the security of the West Bank” is of “top priority”, warning that otherwise it could “destabilise the whole region”.
Asked by a Palestinian delegate at the World Economic Forum in Davos if there is a strategy in play with neighbouring countries to protect the West Bank, Ayman Safadi responded:
The West Bank has been on our radar since day one. As you know, we have a tremendous interest in the West Bank. It is on our border. It could destablise the whole region. And again, we’ve been working very, very hard – including directly with the Israelis, with our American friends, with our European friends [and] with the Palestinians – to make sure that the West Bank does not explode.
Because, if it does explode then I think we’ll be talking about [an] even broader [conflict]. There is a moment of opportunity in the region right now with all that’s happening in Lebanon, Syria, the ceasefire, and I think we should not leave the fate of the future of the region to some radicals, some short-termists, some idealogically driven individuals and parties who just do not see beyond the moment.
I think maintaining the security of the West Bank, making sure the West Bank does not explode is something of top priority and it is dangerous what is happening there. And I think the whole world needs to take a deep look at what is happening, and again with the same vigour that we’re looking at the ceasefire, we should also be working to prevent an explosion on the West Bank.”

Israel on Sunday said troops will remain in West Bank refugee camps in 2025, announcing expanded military operations including tank deployments.
“So far, 40,000 Palestinians have evacuated from the refugee camps of Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur Shams, which are now empty of residents,” Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a statement.
“I have instructed (troops) to prepare for a prolonged presence in the cleared camps for the coming year and to prevent the return of residents and the resurgence of terrorism,” he added.
According to the United Nations, the Israeli offensive has so far killed at least 51 Palestinians, including seven children, and three Israeli soldiers, as well as displacing at least 40,000 people.

is this the same country that in the last years has been instructed to abandon the occupying territories??
