What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?

why does a mentally disabled child throwing stones deserve to be shot from 150 metres away ? The stones couldn’t have even reached them? They can’t possibly be fearing him, he is by himself, they are tons of them and they have cars and guns. How is this justifiable to all these people going on and on supporting a country where these things go on. How is this a country the west considers a democratic ally? How do these values reflect the values of the west?

I understand the outrage of parents wanting the hostages back but Fouads parents will never ever have him back.

Trigger: mention of horrifying sexual abuse.

It is s repulsive that they, those Israeli soldiers who were the filth of the earth in their behaviour, made that poor girl have a shower before gang raping her as though she were the dirty one.

It is reassuring to a small degree that the perpetrators were brought to at least some sort of trial and some sort of vague, if inadequate, punishment. And that it was recognised by the army people who kept the related documents secret all that time, that the Israeli people would find it horrifying if they found out what their soldiers had done.

Disgusting.

"The Palestinian health ministry says 30 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched what it called an operation to dismantle "terrorist cells".

Most of the dead have been claimed by armed groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad as members, but several children are also among them, according to the ministry."

In the West Bank, I'm surprised that hamas and the Jihad group admitted many of the dead were their fighters! Again, innocent people in the middle and no end in sight. Two states with clear borders are so needed urgently. Enough of the death of innocent from The West Bank, Gaza and Israel.

I agree.

Israeli forces have withdrawn from the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian news agency Wafa is reporting, after a 10-day raid in which 21 people were killed according to the Palestinian health ministry.
A Reuters witness said the Israeli forces left behind extensive damage to infrastructure.

A Spanish journalist who lives in the West Bank has posted about it on twitter. So far , I can only see it in AlJazeera in English

Turkish-American activist killed by Israeli forces in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have shot dead an American activist of Turkish origin with a live bullet to her head, according to local media.
The victim identified as Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was 26 years old and she arrived on Tuesday, sources told Al Jazeera.
The incident occurred in the town of Beita, near Nablus in the West Bank, during the town’s weekly anti-settlement march.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the activist was volunteering with International Solidarity Movement (ISM) as part of a campaign to protect Palestinian farmers.
Eygi is the third ISM volunteer killed by the Israeli forces in Palestine. Rachel Corrie was killed in Gaza’s Rafah in 2003 and Tom Hurndall was also killed in Gaza in 2004.

Scirocco · 06/09/2024 13:38

Rest in peace, Eygi, Rachel and Tom. We will not forget you.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.

wonder whether they needed to destroy so much in order to kill a few terrorists and civilians.

I imagine empty words from Biden administration (if they actually acknowledge her).
Let's see if the snake Erdoğan will say anything. Poor beautiful soul 💔

Stemming Israeli Settler Violence at Its Root
Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank are on the rise, with a spike since Israel’s present government took office and another since October 2023.

What a tragedy, murdered in cold blood for trying to protect Palestinian farmers. Shoot first and ask questions later, as usual. There won't be any repercussions though, there hardly ever is.

TheOnlyCherryOnMyTree · 06/09/2024 15:12

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say they are aware of the incident and looking into it.

How many times have we heard that sentence before? It's not really good enough is it. This might gain a little more traction because she was American like the WCK aid workers did but ultimately nothing changes, Israel keep killing people with no consequences.

Rest in peace Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, what a brave, conscientious woman she was.

Parkingt111 · 06/09/2024 15:15

It was reported briefly in the Times of Israel. Word of warning not to read the comments, they are vile.

I read the comments, wow, again do thry not realise that these comments are public? Talk about ungrateful and entitled. They should be shown to American Tax payers.

I find their monitoring of comments quite odd to say the least. Hate speech including celebrating deaths of Palestinians is always allowed to stand.

Yeah the moderating leaves a lot to be desired. I realise that people can post from all around the world, so trolls could write deliberately inflammatory comments, but even a lot of the vile comments get a lot of likes. It seems like the Israeli version of the Newspaper the Sun in the UK.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say they responded with fire toward a main instigator of violent activity who hurled rocks at the forces and posed a threat to them

Imagine thinking that saying someone was throwing stones is a valid excuse to execute them.

And that as a result you shoot at the head of those participating in the protest.

is live ammunition allowed to deter those taking part in a protest in Israel or only when those protesting are Palestinians ?

The rock throwing excuse always infuriates me, you can disarm and arrest someone with a rock you don't need to shoot and kill them. It would not stand in any other democratic nation as a valid justification for shooting. What would they have made of youths in Belfast throwing petrol bombs.

May she rest in peace and her death not be in vain

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say they "responded with fire toward a main instigator of violent activity who hurled rocks at the forces and posed a threat to them" in the Beita area.

The language reads as though the IDF spokes people get out a thesaurus before writing statements such as this, intended to make one group, the US/Turkish woman and Palestinians seem deadly in contrast to the other strong and honourable, yet vulnerable, IDF soldiers.

The statement still does not explain properly how she came to be shot in the head because some people were throwing stones.

The spokespeople are most likely sent for training in this art.

Gets worse and worse. A 13 year old girl shot dead by Israeli forces in the occupied west bank after settlers light fires in her village.

Terrifying. It says she was shot in her own bedroom. What were settlers/IDF doing in a 13yo girl’s bedroom? How did she end up shot in the chest?

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 06/09/2024 17:59

The 13 yr old was Bana Amjad Bakr.

What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?
