Hi, would anyone mind explaining to me why the media seems to be portraying that remembrance commemorations are being targeted by pro-palestinian protests? I don't really know enough to know how the two things are linked.

I have just got back from visiting a friend in St Thomas' hospital who was stabbed earlier today for wearing a poppy by someone wearing a hoodie, mask and a Palestinian pin badge, so not all stories are made up. He is 87 years old and no threat to anyone.

I predict - yet another thing that did not happen.

It's their first post. They literally signed up to Mumsnet to say this...

🤔

I don’t get people -all those poor poor soldiers who died years ago in the war - hundreds/thousands of innocent people being bombed/maimed -ah well, bad things happen

London has multiple things going on all the time. This weekend will be Uber busy but it’s often like that. I got caught up in two protests unwittingly last Saturday. One I have no idea what it was but they had police stewards and the other one was women near Tate Britain with body suits and pumps on their breast with fake blood pouring down and shouting. They were protesting the milk trade I found out.
once during lockdown I was walking around and got caught up in 5 separate protests. Londoners just put up with it and avoid certain areas at certain times. Speakers corner can be loud and fractious at times too but it’s a tiny bit of Hyde park.
it’s a beautiful sunny day here so far and if you want to go to london you should. You’ll likely not see any protests if you visit vast majority of areas.

I don't understand phrases like Britain remembering its own dead? Some British people are in mixed marriages or have Middle Eastern heritage? Similarly, UK and Jewish people. Most of my Jewish friends are British?

Also, Britain sells the weapons that kill. Our business interests and taxes are responsible for those dead babies. They are our killed, if not our dead.

strange silence in this thread after what has happened today in Londons cenotaph I get it it wasn’t pro Palestinian people causing the chaos

LittleMooli · 11/11/2023 12:10

I don't get what is going on there at all. As in I don't understand their argument.

A rowdy crowd, which the police have been used to over the last 4 weeks. What's your point?

queenofarles · 11/11/2023 12:21

Who’s causing it ?

MorrisZapp · 11/11/2023 12:22

Not a single one of the 'proud patriots' was wearing a poppy.

Shouldn’t the cenotaph be protected ? This is happening there.

are you happy to support what the far right is doing ?

Probably because they expect them to be pulled off or dropped during any trouble. Luckily, they've got the st George flags instead.

They are wanting to protect the cenotaph themselves, as the police have been inadequate. If this is happening now, heaven helps how it will go if splinter groups come their way. Might be two groups looking for trouble, who will find it.

Let’s get rid of the police as they’re useless. Let’s use the far right to protect the uk. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well they could let the Far Left have a go but they would capitulate even more so than the police. I've made a note about the reaction from the police here and will be comparing it to how they react to the trouble makers from the march today. So thanks for uploading the footage. Good job my fellow citizens weren't throwing fireworks at the police.

No!!!, it can’t be!! you mean it’s not the unruly keffiyeh wearing Bussed in to London lot ? 🙄.

Ashamed to be English yet again.
