Conflict in the Middle East

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?

It won't change UK government policy. It won't result in a ceasefire in Gaza. It won't magically resolve the situation in Palestine.

Same as all the other big marches - War in Iraq etc. Changed nothing.

Historically anti semitism has always been associated more with the left wing rather than the right wing.

And islamaphobia with the right wing.
Idiots on both sides I guess

I understand that some posters dismiss any Daily Mail articles as shall we say, biased towards a certain ideology, but I found this article interesting as it suggests that some protestors hold a certain point of view that may be incompatible with an aim for a wholly peaceful protest with the objective of achieving a ceasefire.

Pro-Palestinian protesters in London call Hamas 'freedom fighters'

Activists at the rally on November 4 denied that Hamas were terrorists despite them being a proscribed terror group in the UK.

Yes I agree Islamophobia is much more associated with the right wing than the left wing.

Not only are there many idiots on both sides- there are a scarily large number of idiots on both sides. This is a topic of entrenched opinions where any counter facts or evidence is dismissed as fake or simply ignored and countered with whataboutery.

Returning to your original question "What are the people marching in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve "

The answer is publicity, attention and media coverage. The majority of the UK public are either not interested or see fault with both sides.

The first march gets a lot of publicity, the second less so and so on. As "Stop Oil" has shown it is only through shock tactics that such publicity can be maintained.

Which is why a march on Remembrance Day is causing panic within Government because if you want to generate attention and publicity then disrupting or causing a scene at the Remembrance parade will certainly do this.

The nutters and extreme right wing will be present, they always are. It’s horrible and so are they. But please don’t let them derail the sentiment of the majority of protesters who were horrified by the Hamas attack and also horrified at what they perceive as a disproportionate revengeful response. Sympathy for the Palestinians is due to their standards of living which which is attributable not only to Hamas but also to longstanding oppression by Israel. Netanyahu is not a good man or a good leader, you must admit that.
You cannot say a single thing I have said is antisemitic, can you?

Overt anti-semitism mainly comes from the far left nowadays. The far right wouldn't attend these protests.
And the language you are using, talking about Israel's response as "vengeful", has come from hugely one sided sources that ignore facts such as Hamas using schools and hospitals as weapons depots and launch pads. Try listening to some Israeli sources to balance what you're hearing. Favouring Palestinian sources over Israeli ones immediately says something about your bias.

What's disgraceful is Hamas blocking their own civilians from fleeing and using their own people as human shields.

Israel conducts war to a much, much more humane standard than other democratic states. We didn't send aid to civilians in our enemy countries during the war.

yellowgingham8 · 10/11/2023 22:59

They are NOT targeting civilians. This is a lie. Hamas are DELIBERATELY using their civilians as human shields by launching their operations from civilian infrastructure.

One good war?? I didn't know there was such a thing

1dayatatime · 10/11/2023 23:20

@BegrudgingLee

There is no such dropping knife missile in existence that would slice off a limb and leave no crater.

The closest thing to it is an R9X which would have obliterated this individual and not just take a limb off. Flying shrapnel may have caused this but not a missile.

I'm guessing that was a Hamas member who's leg got cut off?
What a good shot, between all those civilians sleeping in makeshift tents

I don't think most here bother with the Daily Mail and for good reason.
They're very selective in what they put out there.
In the past month I've seen barely any coverage of the dead and wounded in Gaza. Or perhaps the Israeli suporters/officials calling for genocide

My granny lived through WW2. She always said it was terrible. She lost her first love and other young friends, lived through the blitz, rationing. She would tear up sometimes. Really wasn't a good war for those who lived through it. It had to be done, but she certainly hoped it never happened again.

It doesn’t take much at all to turn humans into Nazis. That’s the nub of the horror.
