Conflict in the Middle East

What are the people "Marching" in London every Saturday realistically hoping to achieve?

It won't change UK government policy. It won't result in a ceasefire in Gaza. It won't magically resolve the situation in Palestine.

Same as all the other big marches - War in Iraq etc. Changed nothing.

Sorry but I can’t see any sympathy for Hamas in those words

Even ,UN, has said the same thing that what happened on the 7th didn’t come out nowhere and it was after so many years of hate towards Palestinians. And there was in the news the other day how the next generation of Hamas is growing now. Israel can get rid of Hamas , but as long as they’ve not killed every single Palestinian there will be some hate towards Israel for what they’re putting them through and some of them will build the new hamas for sure.

ks this really sympathy? Cuz I see it more of understanding why there is a problem

There is absolutely no justification for a terrorist group who have said they want to rid the world of jews. You cannot blame Israel for that. To do so is sympathising. Anyone who comes at this conflict heavily on one side over the other is biased. Both sides are behaving appallingly and have for some time. There is no simple solution. An understanding of the full history of the region is something most people discussing this lack. This thread is about the marches though, and they have very much favoured one side and very much instigated a massive increase in anti semitism. They won't change our governments policy, or anything going on in Gaza.

Guess the UN is pro hamas then as that’s what guterres said.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 09/11/2023 17:21

The UN are fucking useless. They've had their part to play in this mess too

noblegiraffe · 09/11/2023 17:21

No, the 7th October attacks didn't come out of nowhere, neither did Hamas, and Israel have been treating the Palestinians appallingly for a very, very long time.

But Hamas didn't just come out of Gaza, out of Palestinians being treated appallingly, did they? The leaders don't even live there. The attack wasn't some scrappy resistance effort, it was a well-funded, planned and executed attack. We know there are wealthy backers in the region with political agendas beyond 'Free Palestine' and people with a hatred of Israel that starts with its existence, before any of its behaviour is considered. To suggest otherwise would be naive.

I was just reading about the Haiti uprising, in which former slaves raped, tortured and killed their former masters. The heads of French children were placed on pikes, according to wiki. It was bloody and terrible. Nobody could condone or sympathise with such violence, only weep for the rage that years of injustice causes, and for the innocents who suffer.

Sausagenbacon · 09/11/2023 19:03

Interesting way of showing your support for Hamas.

MableT · 09/11/2023 19:29

Coffeepants · 09/11/2023 16:19

You’re just arguing with yourself here. I clearly stated that no one in their right mind agrees with Hamas actions. Why are individuals who have nothing to do with Hamas expected to condemn them? Are you walking around condemning every vile action on earth that you have nothing to do with?

I also very clearly said it’s not a Jewish issue, so I’m not “blatantly antisemetic” although you go on and believe whatever serves you.

You really are contradicting yourself. You say you don't agree with Hamas and ask why anybody, who has nothing to do with them should condemn them. By your reasoning, nobody should be condemning Israel then.

Coffeepants · 09/11/2023 16:32

Hamas came about because of the systematic oppression and apartheid state that Israel has created. Yes, the stated aim is disgusting. But for decades children have been murdered, it literally created the monster that is Hamas.

I really can't believe your thinking on this. Its an insult to the victims of 7 October. Just stop it now.

Only pro Palestinians think the UN is effective. Wonder why.

Because they have the guts to speak up for the truth
Unlike spineless Biden who changes like the wind depending on what suits him

Biden and Sunak know the repercussions of Hamas not being cornered and dealt with. The UN is ineffectual and weak.

quantumbutterfly · 09/11/2023 19:45

China is head of the UN security council this month apparently, they should be good at that.

Don't be fooled
Biden is getting worried with how reckless Netanyahu is being
He's certainly changed his tone drastically from the start of the war

Coffeepants · 09/11/2023 19:53

Maybe you need to stop ignoring the atrocities committed by Israel

MableT · 09/11/2023 19:55

Well from somebody who actually justifies the rise of Hamas, I don't think I will be taking what you've just said seriously.

Coffeepants · 09/11/2023 19:55

My point is every single news story on Palestine starts with “do you condemn Hamas” if we are all meant to show our outrage for Hamas actions, why is no one asked to publicly condemn Israel? You think carpet bombing civilians, 4000 children is acceptable collateral damage?

MableT · 09/11/2023 19:55

Meant for @Coffeepants

Coffeepants · 09/11/2023 20:00

Take it or leave it, the facts are there. So the UN are weak, Doctors Without Borders are wrong, save the children don’t know better, and the millions advocating for Palestinian rights are all wrong…. But Israel is right. I mean, yeah, if you want to be on the wrong side of history stick to your stance.

people wonder how the holocaust happened, it was allowed by the silence of the world and in 50 years we will all be asking ourselves how we allowed the ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Palestinians to happen.

The mother of a Hamas terrorist interviewed on Sky news says she is proud of her son and most in Gaza support what Hamas are doing 🙄she said Hamas are heroes to them. She then went on about religion. Just been shown on Sky . Careful what you support

Maybe that's why the US aren't intervening.

Well given that most of the posts that are slagging off Israel are still standing, I don't know how you work that out.

Exactly this! Demanding the constand condemnation (which we all do) without ever ever saying... Palestinians matter too. It is so disgusting and frightening.
