Israel has bombed the gates of the Al Shalha hospital.

Everyone knows displaced families are sheltering in and near hospitals.

@WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps Of course the fixation is on Israel. They're the ones committing genocide.

But protest after protest doesn’t happen for any other conflict does it? Even ongoing, gratuitous and disgusting war waged on a nation in Europe hasn’t brought people out on the streets.

So why Israel?

PurpleCrocs3 · 10/11/2023 21:33

@WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps

Because our government is backing Israel and a lot of us disagree with that.

So why Israel?

Many many reasons
Mainly that in other conflicts people atleast have a chance to escape
And in Gaza they are stuck in a prison with nowhere to go whilst being bombed
And at the same time Israel is still being an obstacle in sufficient life saving aid being allowed into Gaza

I'm afraid the forced teaming of Judaism with Zionism has well and truly broken down. There are more Jews protesting against Israeli atrocities worldwide than there are ardent Israeli Zionists supporting them. Screaming "anti-Semite!" at anyone who denounces Israeli government crimes just isn't going to work any more.

I think we both know that’s untrue.

The vast majority of Jews worldwide support the existence, self-defence and current actions of Israel. Quite why people say otherwise is, er, curious.

TakeMe2Insanity · 10/11/2023 21:35

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 10/11/2023 21:26

It might not equal that. Sadly it usually does though.

The fixation on Israel gives it away.

Well who is killing the non combatant population en masse in Gaza, and the West Bank ? Israel.

Oh right. So it’s about opposition to the UK government’s policy is it? What bollocks.

OuiOuiKitty · 10/11/2023 21:38

It's just dreadful because they have driven so many people south too there are less people to bear witness to what is happening which is never a good thing.

Antisemitism do you think…? to not allow Israel to commit barbaric ethnic cleansing and genocide, when other brutal and vicious regimes have also committed those crimes. It’s just so unfair isn’t it😐

MissyB1 · 10/11/2023 21:48

Channel 4 news this evening showed civilians trying to leave the hospital grounds waving white flags, they were shot at and forced to quickly run back.

The staff in the hospitals there are so brave and so professional. They said leaving their patients just wasn’t an option. I pray they survive 🙏

Wow. This probably the most messed up post I've seen on this forum about Gaza so far and I've seen some fucked up takes.

You're blaming civilians for being bombed at A HOSPITAL. What's wrong with you?

Edited

Because they're camping outside a hospital where a terrorist organisation have chosen to base themselves - for political reasons. I do not believe that anyone in their right minds would chose to do this. Would you?

I saw a clip of that earlier today, so awful. I really feel for the medics and the patients. A ceasefire needs to happen now.

I'm not going to engage with posters who say that the civilians are asking for it any more.

That there are the same old posters pushing Al Jazeera as an independent, fact based source of information says it all really.

Yawn!

Open your eyes. Israel did it before. Admitted it, then denied it, then admitted it. Now they are doing it again and again. Can you not bare to see the truth?

Even if Israel were a ‘brutal and vicious regime’ - it isn’t: it’s a free, open, liberal democracy that feels, rightly, an acute need to defend its citizens - why is Israel singled out for protest? Because it’s the Jewish homeland, that’s why.

’Unfair’ isn’t the point. ‘Antisemitic’ is the point.

I'm sorry but I don't believe that most Jewish people are supporting the bombing of innocent civilians, children and hospitals. Yes the existence of Israel (which most people don't deny) but the recent actions of Israel, I don't believe that.

The whole thing is unfair,as are one sided arguments on any social media.

Many of the people posting on this board have a political agenda and I hope that's not what mumsnet is about.

I would hate to be a mother on either side.

It’s horrific. The people that are still justifying this really need to touch base with their own humanity.

The clip that stays with me is that of a woman who had an amputation yesterday, clearly has head wounds (but awake etc) none the less very traumatised, being pushed in wheelchair south. Clearly she should be in hospital, in a sterile environment with pain relief.

Because if you actually listen to the journalists on the ground:

  • they feel safe around other people
  • they have relatives in the hospital
  • the hospitals have generators and so they had access to a little bit if electricity to keep phones running
  • the hospitals have now become market hubs so food sellers etc have set up there
  • they have no where else to go
  • they want to stay with their families

Sure. But I’m very certain that history is on my side and not yours.

History has already decided that Jews should be able to escape unspeakable horrors by living in a Jewish homeland. If you want to tear that sanctuary down, let history judge you.

TakeMe2Insanity · 10/11/2023 22:08

This isn’t Hamas this is clearly Israel.
