The number of children reported killed in just three weeks in Gaza is more than the number killed in armed conflict globally – across more than 20 countries – over the course of a whole year, for the last three years.

Statement on children's deaths in Gaza | Save the Children

Children killed in Gaza in three weeks surpasses annual number of children killed across the world's conflict zones since 2019.

Well it's definitely not on the landing page of the major news outlets, put it that way

iamnitongoogle · 30/10/2023 01:38

My fear is that people are afraid that their opinions might come across as anti semitic so are not speaking up. But this is preposterous, how can we not help these children?! I've read crazy posts here with posters claiming that this has to be done because well, Hamas.

Comedycook · 30/10/2023 06:33

Mumsanetta · 29/10/2023 22:50

It’s sickeningly ignorant to suggest that Palestinians in Gaza have some sort of easy route to get their children out.

I didn't suggest that. So why did you make that comment?

Mumsanetta · 30/10/2023 06:38

Comedycook · 30/10/2023 06:33

I didn't suggest that. So why did you make that comment?

Because it sounded a lot like that’s what you were suggesting.

Comedycook · 30/10/2023 06:40

Mumsanetta · 30/10/2023 06:38

Because it sounded a lot like that’s what you were suggesting.

I said this...

1.5 million Jewish children were murdered in the holocaust....so plenty of Jewish people weren't able to get their children to safety. I have no idea why you even decided to bring it up?

Can you explain what part of that comment would suggest that's what I was saying?

Comedycook · 30/10/2023 06:42

It's a sickeningly ignorant comment to imply that jewish people in ww2 had some sort of easy route to get their children out...if that was the case 1.5 million wouldn't have been murdered. Do we really need to play top trumps when it comes to children being murdered?

@Mumsanetta this was my second comment.

So again, where did I say Palestinians have an easy way to get their children out?

I always enjoy your posts @lavender2023 thank you. Israel lobbies very hard to portray all Palestinians as the literal enemy who are a threat at all times. We've seen across these threads how Palestinian people are automatically equated with Hamas, even the children 🤔. It's an effective way of Israel legitimising the constant human rights violations against them. I've heard multiple spokespeople for the government saying even the children are Hamas because they are indoctrinated from textbooks in the school. I'd love to see one of these textbooks, strangely no one has ever posted the proof. Cognitive dissonance also plays a huge role, especially for religiously motivated people who believe God chose them for the land and that they alone are entitled to it at any cost. The awareness of knowing that your comfort comes at great expense to another person's human rights must be very difficult, but it's much easier to manage when they are positioned as a dangerous, animalistic people devoid of feelings and emotions.

No Israeli I know is happy the children are dying but they experience 4-5 sirens daily and it means they run to the bomb shelters. Of course this is minor compared to the Gazans but many in Israel have never experienced so many rockets.

I can't often help but think if Mumsnet was Israeli, the people here would be advocating for more bomb strikes. I mean, we barely coped with lockdown, how would we cope with 4-5 rocket sirens per day (as well as effective lockdown due to many places being closed and needing to be near a bomb shelter). I was on Mumsnet during lockdown and many posters became seriously stir crazy and unhinged

Flyhigher · 30/10/2023 06:54

@notsoready4school. I'm ashamed to say I'm not sure. We haven't tackled them on it. As too frightened of never talking to them again.
It's just all on what's app. They are full of hatred though. Think they are defending themselves. It's just disgusting. Two older men full of hatred and anger. Younger women just sad about babies dying but happy that other babies might die.

There are Israeli people who are happy about this though. Cheering as the rockets go off, disgusting comments on social media, active indifference... sat on the beach/eating out just miles from the flames and mass murder.
Knowing the water and food situation and not being outraged.
Who with any ounce of humanity advocates for air strikes.
Supporting/ignoring or justifying mass murder is not the same as going stir crazy in your house. I felt incredibly anxious all day yesterday at the helplessness I felt and the guilt i felt that my children were safe and fed but its absolutely not a concern in comparison.

Well Israelis know that the only reason why their own buildings aren't crumbling under the thousands of rockets fired from Gaza is the iron dome which intercepts most of them. So in their mind they are retaliating but unfortunately Gaza doesn't have an iron dome and Hamas doesn't allow civilians to hide out in the tunnels.

Israelis are scared even if they know they are relatively well protected in their bomb shelters. It means though that they rarely venture far out due to needing to be able to access a bomb shelter. Some do get through, places like sderot do have their fair share buildings destroyed. They have been underinvested for years, despite supporting Likud. I can imagine the people there are even more angry.

Exactly!

@lavender2023

This is a very small contingent of Jews on the Israeli far right. They are by no means representative. Most mainstream Jews condemn their actions.

Angry vs dead

Protected bomb shelters vs buried alive.

Underinvested vs absolute purposful collective punishment, war crimes and intentional and indiscriminate slaughter and destruction.

Also, Isreal hasnt been subject to what Gaza has been since Oct 7th.

Again double standards 🙄
Aren't you tired of this constant whitewashing? WE are tired. WE can see through it all. Stop your misinformation. There are countless videos online of Israelis making fun of the suffering of innocent Palestinian civilians. Disgusting.

Of course they are not representative of Jews just as Hamas are not representative of Palestine or Muslims. But why when ONE Palestinian or Arab or Muslim or Pro Palestinian does something bad you ask ALL Palestinians/ Arabs/ Muslims to justify the actions of that ONE individual who happens to be "one of them"? Sick.
Doesn't feel good to be on the receiving end of this kind of bias, does it?

I am not saying it's the same experience. But telling Israelis quivering in their bomb shelters now that gazans have it worse is not going to make them feel less scared. If I told a single mum who can't afford food or to heat and has to go to a food bank that people in Africa have it worse, how do you think she would feel.

All Israelis want at this stage is for the rockets to stop and to be told Hamas will never threaten them again..whether the latter is achievable is not something they are willing to debate at this point..they don't want to hear how fucked they are in the long term given that hamas 2.0. would just pop up.

feralunderclass · 30/10/2023 07:41

@lavender2023 do you think this will make other Jews worldwide think twice before emigrating to Israel now?

I guess same thing could be said about those chants that have been thrown against the Jewish community… and a few threads in MN from that community saying that they’re scared as they’ve received some threats… shall we tell them don’t worry it’s a small contingent of anti semitism it doesn’t mean the rest of us are

I fear that its gone beyond hamas 2 popping up. I genuinely am terrified for what this has started. Its going to be other countries involved soon. The impact of this isnt going to end anytime soon and its horrendous.

Watching Al Jazeera right now, they have just said 2 Palestinian civilians have died in isreal police custody of 'natural causes'. 😳 absolute joke.

Well let's just say that right now, being in Israel sounds like heaven compared to Gaza, which is hell.

hazandduck · 30/10/2023 08:11

OP, DH and I were talking about this yesterday trying to comprehend this number of children just being wiped out…it’s our daughter’s whole infant school, and the junior school next door, and the secondary, and the nursery and preschool on the same campus, all of them dead, and even that number of children is only a third of the number of reported deaths of children since this conflict escalated. It’s despicable and I feel guilty just for having children born in a safe place.

jojonono · 30/10/2023 08:14

Amid all the talk about Hamas, let's not forget that Israeli govt played a massive part in creating them and funding them.
